Cavendish Cavaliers CC vs Ide CC – Match Report
What a game of cricket at the Cavaliers’ new home ground, T&KCC, as Cavendish Cavaliers CC edged out Ide CC in a thrilling last-ball encounter.
Skipper Darren lost the toss and Ide elected to bat first. The Cavaliers started brilliantly with Toby and Flo opening the bowling, both producing tight spells and being rewarded with a wicket apiece. Dave and Karma then continued the pressure, each claiming excellent wickets with some superb bowling on display throughout the innings.
Behind the stumps, Cavaliers legends Si and Chris R delivered an outstanding wicketkeeping performance, helping keep Ide’s scoring in check. Dip was exceptional in the field, saving numerous runs with some brilliant stops as balls raced towards the boundary. Chip, Will and captain Darren all bowled superbly, restricting Ide CC to a very competitive 103 from their 20 overs.
In reply, Karma and Dip got the Cavaliers off to a positive start, running hard between the wickets and putting pressure on the fielding side. Will and Toby both struck the ball confidently, keeping the chase alive. Despite a flurry of wickets creating plenty of tension, Darren and Chip showed great composure, mixing sensible batting with excellent running between the wickets to keep the Cavaliers in the hunt.
The match came down to the very last ball. With one run needed from one delivery, the tension was palpable around the ground. As the ball trickled away for what looked to be a bye, Cavaliers legend Si reacted instantly, spotting the opportunity and racing through to complete the winning run, sealing a famous victory for the Cavs.
After the match, both captains summed it up perfectly:
“Wow, what a game. To take it to the last ball shows the level of cricket and skill both teams play.”
A spectacular contest from start to finish, with one spectator perhaps capturing the occasion best:
“Cricket was the winner.”
A fantastic advert for village cricket and a memorable first classic at the Cavaliers’ new home.
