VIRTUAL PERSONAL TRAINING

Prior to Covid, I'd never used this way of training. Zoom meant fast cars and Teams meant football. In 2020 I worked online via zoom with cancer patients all across the UK on a project called SafeFit, designed to provide cancer rehab nationally. This actually worked quite well, people quite enjoyed working in their own homes, surrounded by their home comforts and were surprised how much they could do in their lounge or wherever.

I still run virtual PT, which may suit people for a variety of reasons, live far away, work from home, enjoy training at home, and many more.

Virtual training is just £25, not £30 as there are no gym costs or travel costs associated with this for me. I can pass that saving on.

And secondly - Paignton

I was really pleased to get a Paignton base, not least because of the enquiries I was getting from Brixham and Totnes areas at the time. It was just that bit easier for people to get to. Owned by Dave Stanley as part of his gym and car bodywork enterprise this is a real diamond of a gym.

It has literally everything you could require in a gym, including battleropes, assault bike, ski pulling, TRX, Smiths machine, loads of resistance machines, wall balls, cable, foam rollers, plyometric box, sledge pull and tyre flips amongst many others.

Parking free on site, air conditioned and loads of fans too. Membership is just £25 and is accessible 24hrs a day. Again very private in its nature and with new toilets and shower facilities recently installed. They hold classes here too - a boot camp once a week free for members, ab classes, tabata classes and spin classes

My gym bases. First off - Torquay

After previously working out of the Grand Hotel gym, I was delighted to strike a rental agreement with The Belgrave Sands Hotel and Spa on Belgrave Road in Torquay. Situated next to the Beefeater and opposite the Bowling Green.

The gym is small but functional, contains a treadmill, cross trainer, bike, arm bike, multi gym and a dumbbell rack. I also leave a swissball, medicine ball, roller wheel, slam bag, step bench and a kettlebell here as well.

The gym is air conditioned and has a fridge where the hotel provide jugs of water and plastic glasses as complimentary. There is also a swimming pool, steam room and sauna that can be used for a small extra cost of £6. The changing facilities, shower and toilets are most definitely not your usual gym facilities (if you know, you know) and the gym is almost always empty as well making it virtually private.

The swimming pool isn't pictured very well as it was in use at the time but is 7.5mtrs long and single depth all the way. It's heated to a higher level than normal so is quite pleasant to use. I also run swimming pool based sessions with people - doing cardio and resistance exercises poolside for them to do under the resistance of water. The car park is free to use for those attending sessions

Personal Training:

1-1 personal training is still available in a variety of ways to suit you. Still charging the £30/session that I did in 2010, this drops to £25/session if you do 2 or more sessions per week. Sessions are available in a gym setting (Paignton or Torquay), in your own home, or outside - in a garden, park or field, even the beach. Sessions are at an agreed time for both parties and need not necessarily be the same slot each week if your schedule is unpredictable.

PARTNERSHIP TRAINING - SPLIT THE COST OF TRAINING IN HALF!!!!

I am still running partnership and small group training, which takes the session fee, and splits it evenly between you, making training massively more affordable if the cost of training isn't something you reach to at the moment. It's no secret that the cost of living is hitting us all hard, so hopefully this will make fitness training affordable for everyone

Apologies for not posting much everyone, it's been very busy. Lots of zoom hours working with cancer survivors nationally on their rehab both during and just after their various treatments and general PT sessions both home and gym-based, along with the long-awaited return of my classes which are as follows:

Monday 9.30-10.30 - Teignbridge cancer rehab class, Avenue Church, Newton Abbot: Anyone living with and beyond cancer is free to join in, just £5 a class pay as you go

Tuesday 9.30-10.30 - General Fitness Gym Class, Belgrave Sands Hotel and Spa, Torquay: Anyone looking to increase fitness or engage with exercise rehab free to join but spaces limited to just 3 at present due to size of gym and potentially 3 other class attendees, £4/class

Tuesday 11.30-12.30 - Torbay cancer rehab class, Ye Olde Smokey Inn, Marldon, Paignton: Anyone living with and beyond cancer is free to join in, just £4 a class pay as you go

On 11th June 2010 I created the Exeter Cancer Rehab programme. At this point, it was only the third cancer rehab programme in operation in the UK behind London and Glasgow. Since then, the programme was expanded to various leisure centres all over Devon as more and more trainers became Level 4 specialists in the field. Sadly this eventually ended the Exeter programme itself as the NHS team there established FORCE as a hub for the various outsourced programmes rather than running it's own, but I'm still very proud that from one acorn, many oak trees now grow.

I do however still run the Torbay and Teignbridge programmes that were established much more recently in 2016 and these are flourishing. I am also a proud member of the SafeFit clinical trial team providing cancer rehab on a national scale now. It's a shame the Exeter programme was collapsed, but it led to cancer rehab becoming one of my biggest passions as a personal trainer, and something I will always enjoy providing :)

This is my new gym based setting in Paignton as of late 2020. Lots of ventilation, alcogel stations and cleaning materials making this extremely covid-safe. Amazing gym setting, with free on site parking and numbers are booked to a limited number at a time so it is NEVER busy. Reopening in 7 weeks time of course, and not a day too soon
