Why use a Beach Hire operation on holiday?
Why should I hire a paddle board, when I can carry my inflatable with me?
It really comes down to a question of "am I looking for a better-quality opportunity" or by carrying my board "will I be able to match a hire/tour experience using hire equipment"?
At SUP-Torbay we hire beginner and touring rigid (hard) boards and prefer them over inflatables as we have lots of beach storage and love the benefits of a rigid board. Of course, for a group experience wanting a fun raft or mega/giant sup we certainly use inflatables. But for solo paddling, we are all about the rigid board experience.
As a new paddler, due to ease of storage, transportation, weight and cost, an inflatable is a great option for traveling to board in your local community. But why would there be 2 types of board and what advantages are there in using a rigid board when you can buy an inflatable for less than half the price, can carry it to the beach and save beach hire costs?
It's just a board for the kids to play on, that comes out a few times a year and we can stick it in the boot or a rucksack and fly with it. So how can a hire operation or tour company be beneficial to me when I already own a board?

Rigid boards maintain a faster speed allowing you to adventure further with ease and are far less wind affected. The benefits you get on land transporting an inflatable are lost on the water. The benefits you get from a rigid board on the water are heavy to carry and potentially lost when transporting.
Therefore, hiring a rigid board on holiday is perfect for your convenience and outweighs the reasons to travel with your inflatable due to the benefits you get on the water. A rigid board improves your stability, personal ability and manoeuvrability. Increases your speed due to your glide through the water and is an opportunity to explore a better-quality experience.
