Running a small business isn’t just a job—it becomes part of family life. There are long days, busy weekends and plenty of sacrifices behind the scenes, but also lots of shared moments, encouragement and pride.

Has your bike suddenly started feeling uncomfortable… even though nothing has changed?

If you’ve been riding happily for months and you’re suddenly noticing sore knees, hot feet, aching hips or niggles that weren’t there before, don’t assume your bike fit has changed.

Take a look at your cleats.

They’re one of the most overlooked parts of a cycling setup. Every time you clip in and out they wear a little more. As they wear, the way your foot sits on the pedal can change. You might develop extra movement, your foot position can become inconsistent, and that solid connection between you and the bike starts to disappear.

Your cleats are the foundation of every pedal stroke. A worn cleat doesn’t just affect comfort – it can reduce stability, alter your pedalling mechanics and make it harder to produce power efficiently.

Replacing your cleats before they’re excessively worn is a simple and relatively inexpensive way to keep your position consistent and avoid chasing problems that aren’t actually caused by your bike fit.

If you’re not sure whether your cleats have reached the end of their life, bring your bike in and I’ll happily take a look. Sometimes the smallest parts make the biggest difference.

Proud to be partnering with Pinarello and featured in this month’s Cyclist magazine, sharing my roots here in Topsham and the story of being the fifth generation of the Underhill family to run a business in the town.

CORE Bike Fit is based behind the old Underhills shoe shop, a place filled with memories for me. As a boy, I spent countless hours in the workshop with my dad, watching and helping repair shoes. Back then, I never imagined that one day I would return to this very spot, working with some of my favourite cycling brands and helping people get more enjoyment from their riding through professional bike fitting.

It’s a privilege to continue a family legacy in such a unique setting while combining my passion for cycling with helping others ride more comfortably, efficiently, and confidently.

If you’re based in Exeter and love riding bikes but traditional cycling clubs aren’t really your thing, then CORE Bike Club could be exactly what you’re looking for.

This Saturday, we’re opening our doors and inviting as many of you down as possible to meet the people behind CORE Bike Club, find out more about what we do, and see what we’re all about.

We run weekly group rides on Monday daytime and Thursday nights, hold events throughout the year, and regularly raise money for charity and local causes.

We’ll also be raising money for FORCE on the day, so it’s a great chance to support an amazing local charity while connecting with fellow riders.
