As we approach the end of another season, we would like to say a huge thank you to our sponsors.

On the green, it has been a great year for the club, winning the Private Greens Division 1, Rhondda League, and Mid Vale Triples League. Our PG2 team are also in contention for promotion this Saturday, so all the very best to them.

A big thanks to our green team (Ashley, Alex, and Jason) who have worked tirelessly to give us a decent surface to play on every week.

For those looking to pick up a new hobby, you're always welcome at the Valley (we're based in Tonyrefail), and you'll be sure to meet a few characters.

Many congratulations to the members of the club who participated in the Top Club ( a tournament which covers all disciplines of the game), we as a club defeated the current Welsh Club Champions Harlequins 5-0. It’s the first time we’ve won this competition.

Our Thanks must go to the players of Harlequins, the officials of the Private Greens but more importantly to Harlequins BC for the use of their facilities.

We wish you well in your quest to retain the Carruthers Shield (Welsh Championship) but we also extend our congratulations to Ross Owen on his nomination to represent Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow later this summer.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Glyndwyr “Puno” Owens.

Puno was a former of the club and we as a club extend our condolences to his family and friends

It’s been a while.

Hope everyone in the community has wintered well. I know our members have!!!!!

Hopefully, weather permitting we are opening the green on Saturday 18th April from 2pm.

If you fancy trying something different, just out of active sports, then please feel free to come along and give the game of bowls a go.

We’re always looking for new members and will provide all the equipment that you’ll need. There is no age limit, so if you’re 4/5/6years old or even 70+ then pop along, you’re more than welcome to try

A catch up on a busy 2 weeks…

Mid Vale Section Finals
Last week we had a good chunk of our members take part in the County section finals at Caerau Welfare BC. Congratulations to those who have progressed to the VOG County final next weekend and more importantly booked their spots in the National Finals in August.

Tuesday 8th July - Mid Vale Triples
A closely fought game with Ogmore Vale at the Valley in the Mid Vale Triples, thankfully a strong finish got us over the line with an 11 shot victory.

Thursday 10th July - Rhondda League
On the road for an an away fixture to Ystradfechan. A nice 20 shot victory bouncing back from taking our first loss in the league the week before.

Saturday 12th July - EWPG (Div 2 & 5)
A good day all round with victories for our first team and second team in the Private Greens.

Tuesday 15th - Mid Vale Triples
On the road again with a visit to Wyndham. 3 rinks up and 1 rink settling for a draw, 33 shots.

Saturday 19th July - Carruthers & EWPG (Div 5)
The big one! The Carruthers shield! - Far from what we were hoping for today… the crowd flocked in for what was expected to be tasty match up but unfortunately we didn’t deliver. The Quins started fast and didn’t take their foot off the gas throughout putting their name back in the hat for the Semi Final at Llandrindod Wells. Well played Harlequins!

EWPG (Div 5) - The seconds visited the home of the MWE Wildcats. This one was a tasty game, right to the death! Unfortunately it was the Wildcats that picked up some big counts late on that secured them a win. Nonetheless some important points nabbed for us away from home.

A rundown of the last 2 weeks…

We are certainly approaching that time of the season that the fixtures start coming in thick & fast!

W D Jones Cup
An away victory agaist Gelli Park booked our spot in the Semi final of the W D Jones cup.

EWPG (DIV 5)
Our seconds got a bit of revenge with a nice win at home against Harlequins after losing the away fixture the week before.

Rhondda League
Harlequins very quickly got their chance for their own revenge only a few days later in the Rhondda League beating us by 1 shot, taking 11 points.

Mid Vale Triples
Game postponed due to the opponents being short of numbers.

EWPG (DIV 2)
Friday the first team were back in action in the private greens to face off with Dinas Powis at home. 2 rinks up, 1 draw & 1 down.

Carruthers Shield
Saturday we welcomed Pontrhydyfen to The Valley for a last 16 of the Carruthers Shield. A solid performance got us a 24 shot win. A massive thanks to Alan Hone for sponsoring a fantastic spread for us to tuck into afterwards, it’s greatly appreciated.

EWPG Top Club
Today we made a visit to RTB Ebbw Vale for the Top Club. Victories in the Singles, pairs & fours got us the overall win.

A Special mention to Mark Harding who took part in the internationals last week and picked up his 50th cap for Wales (let’s just hope he takes better care of it than he does with his whites, shirts and match cards 😆) An incredible achievement Mark! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Weekly round up

The mid week winning streak continues with strong home performances in both the Mid Vale Triples & Rhondda League.

The rain held off enough for us to get our postponed Carruthers Shield fixture played in Aberystwyth. The guys got stuck in right from the start to book a spot in the last 16. Next up - Pontrhydyfen at home.

Unfortunately our seconds had a tough time against Harlequins suffering a 14 point defeat away in the Private Greens (D5). We’ll dust ourselves off and go again next week on the return leg.

A rundown of the past 2 weeks

A good performance on a very wet evening in Pontycymer got us a clean sweep of points in the Mid Vale Triples.

The first victory for our seconds in the EWPG Division 5 as they welcomed Barry Romily “A” to The Valley. (No game for firsts)

A strong finish got us the win in a closely fought battle against Ystradfechan in the W D Jones cup.

The firsts were back in action with an away fixture to league leaders Beaufort… 2 rinks up, 2 rink down but the overall win in our favour. (No game for seconds)

Unfortunately both games were cancelled in the past week with Kenfig Hill & Penygraig both a little short of numbers… both games to be re scheduled.

Bad luck again today in the Carruthers Shield with a waterlogged green in Aberystwyth. Hopefully the weather will be a bit more kind next week. The seconds were home against Milwood. Despite a very good effort from the team it was the visitors who took the glory.
