Marden Cricket & Hockey Club is looking for a Clubhouse Supervisor, to start on 1st September 2023. This is a permanent, part-time role, approximately 20 - 25 hours a week but variable, depending on the events that are taking place, and it will involve working some evenings, Saturdays and/or Sundays.

This is a zero hours contract to allow for maximum flexibility, with accrued holiday pay and a pension provision.

You would need to be organised and flexible, with good time management and communication skills, have reasonable knowledge of the usual software applications (Word, Excel etc) and a good telephone/email manner. Some aspects of this role can be carried out remotely but you would need to be at the club for a large part of it. It's important that you are seen around the club and are approachable to our members and guests. Experience of a similar role is preferable but not essential, as full training will be provided before the start date of 1st September.

Special shout out to all the staff who worked this incredibly busy weekend. Over two days we've had the Centenary hockey tournament followed by the big party, 1st XI cricket promotion game, the first day of the new junior hockey season, the final day and awards for junior cricket and the President's v Chairman's cricket match. The staff have done a phenomenal job so thank you and hats off to them. 👏👏🏑🏏🍾

We wanted to let you know what will happen in the clubroom from today, 19th July, officially known as 'Freedom Day'.

As you know we have been hit quite hard over the past few weeks with cases of Covid both affecting our staff and our members. We have had to close the bar on one occasion and have had volunteers picking up bar shifts on others. Obviously we don't want to have to do this too often going forward, although it's fairly inevitable that there will be some disruption as the restrictions are lifted. So whilst we are lifting most of the restrictions, we have retained a couple that aim to protect the staff in particular but also those members who are a little more cautious around the reopening. Hopefully this approach will provide a good balance for everybody.

We have therefore set out below the restrictions that will be relaxed and the few that will be retained from Monday 19 July:

Masks: No longer need to be worn in the Clubroom. However, a mask does need to be worn when queuing at the bar. Staff will also wear masks for their own protection until the screens are in place.

Table Service: Table service is no longer compulsory, however if you're not happy wearing a mask and queuing at the bar, you can still sit at a table and a member of staff will come to your table to take your order.

Bar area: Drinks can now be ordered at the bar by those wearing masks. To avoid congestion, please move away from the bar area once you have been served your drinks. Sitting at the bar or standing around it once you have your drink is not permitted.

Tables: There will no longer be a restriction of 6 people to a table.

QR Code: We will continue using our QR Code, and we would be grateful if people would use this facility. This, however, is no longer mandatory.

Screens: We are hoping to get some screens up at the bar shortly in order to add an extra layer of protection for staff and members.

Standing in the Clubroom: You will be able to stand and drink in the Clubroom from Monday 19th July but please do not stand at the bar unless you are ordering drinks.

Toilets: Masks no longer need to be worn when using the toilet facilities, but if you would rather wear a mask please do so.

Take away drinks: You can now take drinks downstairs in plastic/paper cups. When ordering your drinks, please ask for a plastic or paper cup if you're planning to take them downstairs.

If you feel at all unwell, please do not come to the Club.

We cannot thank members enough for their support so far and we hope you will continue to support the Club and the measures referred to above, as the safety of all is paramount. If anybody does have any concerns, please email [email protected].

The committee will keep all the measures above under constant review, and will notify you in advance of any further changes.

Please note that we have not yet received advice from the ECB, England Hockey or the LTA with any changes to the current policies for the sports so we will continue as we currently are until we hear otherwise.

COVID-19 cases are rising so please remember to follow the guidance and stop the spread. Take regular self test kits (available from a participating pharmacy), remember to keep your distance and wash your hands regularly.

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THE STORY
MCHC have decided that, on the 21st November, they will support Tom’s Fight. As an outstanding sportsman and ex- Sutton Valence School student, this is a charity and fundraising event that hits very close to home.

On the 21st November, an SV exeat weekend, there will be an opportunity to . This means that people will be able to double their match fee (or add more!) to donate to Tom’s Fight. There will be multiple ways to do this including Love Admin, behind the bar and cash donations.

If you are unable to make the 21st November to support/play, then over the next few days some posters created by will be up around the clubhouse. On these posters there is a QR code which can be scanned which will take you straight to the JustGiving page to enable you to donate what you can.

Following our first weekend of operating under the new Covid rules, we are responding to feedback from our visitors to hopefully optimise the experience for everyone who comes to the Club. The bottom line is that, as long as there are rules and laws in place that prevent us from operating 'normally', it's going to be tough on us all. We are going to need the help and cooperation of all our members and guests to get us through it.

Please read this message. It has been written by another business owner (and altered slightly) but the message from the Club is exactly the same:

"We're sad to say this, and we will say this.

Our first weekend of the new rules with regards mask wearing, table service and 10pm curfew has seen our staff experience rudeness and questioning of these policies.

That’s not on.

We are operating within the law as our licence and ability to trade depends on it.

Our staff will NOT tolerate rudeness or be spoken to in a disrespectful manner.

Masks:
You have to wear one to get in, it’s law, not policy. LAW. You have to wear one when you’re walking around the venue. It’s LAW not policy. This is non negotiable. ...for those that are genuinely exempt and those wearing the identifying lanyards, we are well aware...

10pm Curfew:
We have to be CLEAR of customers at 10pm, NOT CUSTOMERS LEAVE AT 10pm. We stand the risk of fines and prosecution so an extra few minutes might seem petty to you but it’s important to us. 10pm isn’t your cue to leave.

We will be asking you to vacate and start to be ready to leave BEFORE 10pm and not AT 10pm. Please respect this.

If you are not willing to adhere then please don’t come down. We don’t want the conflict.

It’s not fair on the team.
This isn’t their doing.

Any members or visitors found to behave disrespectfully will be asked to leave.

Further to the latest Coronavirus government announced yesterday by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, please see below details of how this will change our safety procedures in and around the Clubhouse with effect from tomorrow, 24th September 2020.

Closing Time

The Clubhouse will be closed at 10.00 pm. ‘Last orders’ will be called at 9.20 pm and ‘time’ called at 9.30pm.

Entering the Clubhouse

All staff, members, guests and visitors will now have to wear a face covering when entering the Clubhouse. The exceptions to this rule are children under 12 years old and any individuals who are exempt because of an underlying health condition.

Please note, if you arrive without a face covering, you will be able to purchase one for £1 with all proceeds going to NHS Charities.

There will be no bar service for the foreseeable future. When you arrive at the Clubhouse, please ensure you are wearing your face covering and find yourself a seat in the Clubroom, where our staff (who will also be wearing face coverings) will take your drinks order. This also includes orders for teas and coffees.

If you wish to take your drink pitch side, please make this clear to staff when you order, and your drink will be served in a plastic/paper cup.

Once outside your face covering can be removed, but please continue to adhere to the ‘Rule of Six’ and the ‘standing’ and ‘no standing’ areas on the balcony.

If you wish to remain seated in the Clubroom to enjoy your drink, you will be able to remove your face covering during this time. Please continue to adhere to the ‘Rule of Six’ at all times.

Please remember to wear your face covering when exiting the Clubroom and going to and from the toilet.

Food

We will continue to serve sausage baps and suchlike on match days, where possible, but these must be ordered from a table and consumed either at the table or outside, where your face covering can obviously be removed.

Track and Trace

There will be an NHS QR code available to scan when you enter the Clubhouse in order that members, guests and visitors can ‘check in’ at the premises using this option as an alternative to providing your contact details. If you would rather provide your contact details, please complete the Track & Trace registration form which can be requested from staff.

This news is disappointing but not overly surprising, given the rising number of Coronavirus cases over the past few weeks. Please bear with us and help our staff as much as possible during this very challenging time.
