An incredibly sad time for our department last week as we said goodnight to Blake at the grand age of 29.

Whilst we did not own Blake, we were fortunate enough to have him as a much loved member of our team for 18 years!

We will be forever grateful to him for the invaluable lessons that he has taught us (especially about riding in the wind!) and feel fortunate that he had such a lovely retirement with his best friends Reggie & Red 🥰

He will truly be missed by all. Thank you Blake ❤️🌈

An incredibly sad day for the Equine team last week when we said farewell to Kai.
Kai has been at Hadlow for over 15 years, and has been an invaluable horse and given so much to the college.

Before she came to Hadlow she was an established event horse, with her favourite thing being the XC! Kai was a real speed demon and I’m sure many students and staff will have fond memories of her flying round jumps - with limited control, but with the biggest smile on her face.

Not only was she much loved under saddle and on the ground, but she was also a wonderful mother to three of our homebreds: Indigo, Loco and Nico.
Such a gentle beautiful horse, who earned her last few years in retirement enjoying field time with her friends.
We are all going to miss her dearly, but it was such a privilege for everyone to have been able to have a horse like her in our care.

Congratulations to Hadlow Yard Manager, Jessica Richardson and her horse, Pat on their recent run (and only their second together) at Tweseldown in the BE100.
They went double clear and finished on their dressage score to take 2nd place 🎉

Jess is also a BHSII and coaches a lot of our students in their riding lessons in which they can benefit from her competition knowledge.

Students also get the opportunity to assist in the pre and post competition care of event horses like Pat during their duty sessions. This gives them valuable experience which they can take with them when they go out to work in the industry.

Here’s some more images of our students hard at work in preparation for the Annual Show. I think it’s safe to say, lots of problem-solving and teamwork skills were developed (especially putting up the marquee)!

A further thank you from our team must go to Broadview Garden Centre, who kindly donated some flowers to our Level 3 students to dress their show jumps with for their Annual Show on Sunday.

Following the weekend, the Level 1 students have now planted these lovely flowers in the raised flower beds in the middle of our yard as part of their Estate Maintenance unit. These flowers sit alongside their mint, strawberry, and rosemary plants.

That’s our Annual Show wrapped up for another year!

Our Extended Diploma students have been working incredibly hard to make this show the success it was.
As part of their Event unit they have to organise and run a show, this includes everything from floor planning, schedule writing, sponsor recruitment, course designing to actually being the stewards on the ground on the day.

We are very proud of their efforts and hope everyone competing had a lovely, successful day.

The results will be typed and published this week, in line with sunshine tour requirements, so stay tuned for them 😁

Dressage times are now available for this Sunday's Annual Horse Show here at Hadlow. Showing classes and Show jump classes are shown as approximate start times. Parking will be in a field rather than our normal parking area, please drive up to the Equine yard and you will be sign posted from there. We are looking forward to seeing everyone and hope you have a great day!
