The Clubhouse and course will remain closed on Saturday 10th January.
Whilst the snow has now cleared and everything, on the face of it looks clear and playable, the reality is that the top 2cm of the greens has currently defrosted and everything below that remains frozen solid. This means that small top surface is saturated in water, so that water forms around your feet as you walk on them, making putting impossible.
The greens are made of a sand/soil composition which allows free drainage through most conditions. However, what this also means is that when the ground freezes, the greens become like a single block of ice, soil particles solidly locked together which then takes a lot longer than “normal soil” to defrost – which is what we need to happen so that the water will drain off the surface and allow play.
The temperatures are starting to come up and there will be another inspection of the course on Saturday to review the position.
Thank you for your patience and we hope to have the course back open again very shortly.
