So you might have noticed it's been a bit dry recently! There's a hosepipe ban in place, and yet the greens are green!
The reservoir we built back in 2008/9 has provided a resource that otherwise would have left us, literally high and dry!
The reservoir holds a touch under 10 million gallons when full to the brim. We are now getting asked how much is left - as it doesn't usually get used this much by mid August!
So I've attached a picture taken last week, and another from the end of construction as we started to fill it for the first time.
You can see from the two images - that the reservoir is probably half empty in terms of distance from top to bottom - but due to its shape we have probably used around 2/3rds of its capacity
Given that it's taken us 3.5 months to use 2/3rds, and all sensible logic would suggest that temperatures must drop and rain must come as we move into September/October - so we are pretty sure that the reservoir will cope with what is still to come.
We have a couple of other options - we would switch off the tees - and concentrate solely on the greens if we start getting short.
Every day, we still pump our allowed abstraction of 20m3 back into the reservoir as well, so whilst it has been one of the most challenging summers ever for us, we think that the reservoir has done its job fantastically well - and proved the calculations we did back in 2008 were pretty accurate!
Hopefully we will get a bit of rain soon, and even the moon is going to give us a hand tomorrow by switching off the sun for a bit in the eclipse!
