25/26 COMPLETE✅

As the season draws to and end I’d like to take this time to thank the people who help make it possible to continue to create great times with this great club.

We’d like to thank every one who has supported us along the way this season, the parents, locals & die hard followers of the club all push us to keep putting in that extra bit of effort for Uplowman. This year we did our first fundraiser for the club and the support we received from the local community was such a shot in the arm for this club. In a time where it’s so hard to keep grass roots football afloat your support is thoroughly appreciated.

Our second thankyou is to our sponsors, please check out the second photo of this post and support the businesses that have generously contributed. As I said previously footballs clubs can’t get by without the kindness and generosity of businesses sponsoring them. We hope you’ve had some pride (and some shout outs in the write ups) in what we’ve achieved this season. Player sponsorship will be returning again this year so please get in touch if you’d like to remain a sponsor for a player or two. Thankyou to Pests Off, Dirty Old Soap Goat Co, Redwoods Inn, Kingdom Autocare, DTM Productions, Jean & John Lister and JCT Collectables
as said before please check out their businesses which will be tagged in this post where possible!

Another thankyou to our main club sponsor Dave Travers (David Travers financial services & Will writing) for once again sponsoring and providing our kit, a proper legend of this club! Thankyou to S.J.Reed Agricultural Contracting LTD for sponsoring our winter training coats, you guys are alright! And thankyou to T & G Agricultural Engineering for sponsoring a total of 10 players, the best Massey Ferguson engineers around. Another Thankyou to Paul and Ju at The Redwoods Inn for putting up with us for another season, for the food, the excessive drinks and the great memories we make at our local. Thankyou to my secretary Rowena Smith for all her admin work this year and thankyou to the hall for another great year of having the best pitch around.

Final thanks to my brilliant group of players!

SO NICE WE HAD TO DO IT TWICE!!!!

Uplowman United are champions again! With a performance to be proud of from every single person involved.

Today we faced our old rival North Tawton in The Football Express Cup final. It was a hard fought contest with both sides showing their quality but ultimately the bulls brought it home again.

We started the game a bit off the boil and found ourselves 1-0 down at half time through North Tawton’s persistent pressing.

It didn’t take long for Uplowman to respond once the second half began, we showed some brilliant play on the counter Toby Marshall (Jean & John Lister) recieved a delightful through ball from Adam Cumes (Jean & John Lister) and beat a few men before squaring it to his wide partner Wilf Burns-Cox who (Pests Off) who slotted home the equaliser.

The game turned into a neutrals delight with both sides attacking eachother but Uplowman’s defence earned their plaudits boasting excellent quality when called upon. Some subs were made within the second half drinks break and Toby Marshall then lead the attack up top. He recieved a lovely pass from a fresh Charlie Cornish (Redwoods Inn) and beat the keeper in lovely fashion to put us 2-1 up. Fred Hope (Dirty Old Goat Soap Co) was then called upon and tipped a shot onto the crossbar, North Tawton weren’t going to make this easy.

Finally through his excellent work rate and outstanding quality Toby Marshall dispossessed the North Tawton defender and slotted home in a cool fashion to see the cup come home with the holders once again. 3-1.

The manager is incredibly proud of each and every one of his players who have gave their all through this cup run. It is a pleasure to be in charge of these boys who time and time again show their resilience and quality, 3 trophies in 3 seasons for this brilliant group of lads with hopefully more to come in the future đŸ«¶

Thankyou to our brilliant support who got us over the line and thankyou again to our sponsors who make this possible (post to follow once admin’s hangover is finished)

THE BULLS MARCH ON TO ANOTHER FINAL

Yesterday Uplowman had their semi final tie of The Football Express Cup vs Cheriton Fitzpaine. As the current holders of the cup, our hopes were on reaching the final once again, but we knew we were in for a tough battle with an inform side standing in our way.

The game began with a back and forth start with neither team showing dominance. Just before the 20 minute mark Harry Jee (Kingdom automotive) played a piercing pass which saw Wilf Burns-Cox (Pests Off) through on goal, Wilf who has been in a fine vein of form in recent appearance slotted the opener home. Cheriton kept us honest and forced some hard work from our defence to keep our sheet clean going into halftime.

Second half began and Uplowman found another gear, The midfield began knocking the ball around with much more conviction. Joe Greenslade (T&G Engineering) took a touch over the defenders head before executing a delightful over head kick to put us 2 up. He described his acrobatic effort as “business as usual.” Our final goal of the half came from our top scorer, Toby Marshall (Jean&John Lister) got on the end of another Harry Jee pass and cooly found the back of the net. 3-0 Uplowman.

Cheriton continued to threaten but could only settle for 1 consolation goal which saw Uplowman reach the final of their beloved cup once more.

We face old rivals North Tawton in the final with the date and venue yet to be announced and call upon our loyal following to come support us in the final and try get the boys over the line once again.

MOTM: The Skipper Jordan Travers (Pests Off) leading from the back with a solid defensive display

DOTD: Harry Jee (Kingdom Automotive) was a grumpy man, despite his 2 assists which he made sure I didn’t forget.

LEAGUE DONE - CUP TO BE CONTINUED

Yesterday Uplowman had their final league game of the 25/26 campaign. We travelled to Uplowman believe it or not for an away game due to uni’s lack of home ground.

With the Football Express Cup tomorrow a full squad was required to provide some semblance of rest for the huge clash on Monday Vs Cheriton Fitzpaine at home 6:30 Kick Off. We call upon our down Uplowmanian’s to come boost us along as we try to make it 3 cup finals in 3 years.

We started this game strongly Harry Jee (Kingdom Automotive) returned to the score sheet with a delightful finish lobbing the goalkeeper from 25 yards. Shortly after Captain Jordan Travers (Pests Off) rose highest from a corner to head home our second. 2-0. Uni answered with 2 quick goals making it 2-2 at half time.

Second half began and with a lot of changes Uplowman still looked keen to push on and grab a result, Toby Marshall (Jean & John Lister) got his 15th goal of the season when he headed home our third goal, unfortunately once again uni responded quickly. As the game reached its conclusion uni converted an audacious free kick which saw them take all 3 points with them.

Our attention now turns to the biggest game of our season tomorrow evening at home vs Cheriton Fitzpaine in the semi-final of the football express cup. Be there and cheer your bulls through.

MOTM: NICKY PRATT (JCT Collectables)

DOTD: Harry Jee (Kingdom Automotive) missed a sitter. He will tell you about his goal and assist though.

BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY DELIGHT!

Yesterday Uplowman faced Exeter University for the first time this season, with a cup semi final around the corner it’s important that the lads get into good habits, and what better habit is there than winning?

The bulls started excellently on the front foot, playing some lovely football and really showing the quality on display. Adam Cumes (John & Jean Lister) opened the scoring with a lovely finish just outside the box, finding its way to the bottom corner. Shortly after Toby Marshall’s (John & Jean Lister) hard work was repaid by pressing the goalkeeper into a mistake and gifting him our second goal. Not happy with scoring just one Marshall then began one of his delightful dribbles cutting through the University side and netting his second of the game. 3-0. Right on the brink of half time Uni responded with their first.

Second half Uplowman carried on with their pressure but couldn’t quite muster the finishing touches to our plays. Uplowman also defended excellently seeing out the danger that the University side tried to create. The game ended with Uni scoring another consolation goal on the verge of full time. 3-2 to Uplowman.

MOTM: Joe Greenslade (T&G Engineering) tireless performance in the middle of the park

DOTD: Billy Cornish (DTM Productions) for getting in the way of a completely legal Joe Greenslade tackle (as you can see from his back)

Uni again on Saturday before our semi final on the Monday! Please bring your support to the game and help us make it 3 finals in 3 years.

UPLOWMAN UNBEATEN IN 5🐂

Yesterday we faced Otterton a strong side who we faced previously in last seasons cup final, with manager Isaac Reed (T&G Engineering) missing the trio of Paul Kingdom (Redwoods Inn) Jordan Travers (Pests Off) and Nicky Pratt (JCT Collectables) taking charge (guess which one is doing the write up).

The boys started well from the first minute, a long ball over the top set birthday boy Toby Marshall (Jean & John Lister) free who calmly finished to send us into an early lead. After a couple back and fourths we then managed to set Wilf Burns-Cox (Pests Off) down the line who took on his man and cooly finished to give us a 2 goal advantage. We then went into relaxation mode and let Otterton back into the game by allowing the left winger to cut inside and fire the ball into the top right corner (Fred Hope couldn’t see) đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž The boys then woke up scoring two in quick succession another one from super star Wilf, which was shortly followed by Toby Marshall to see us go into the break 4-1.

The second half saw us defend well for the first 20 minutes before killing the game off, when Charlie Cornish (Redwoods Inn) was set up by Wilf Burns-Cox to get his first of the game. Our final goal came from Toby Marshall who completed his hatrick with a tidy finish to send us 6-1 up. Paul Kingdom then gave away a penalty, one he assures wasn’t correct and once slotted away the game finished 6-2. Uplowman would like to wish Otterton the best of luck for the remainder of the season.

MOTM - Harry Gozna (T&G Engineering) who was solid throughout 👏

DOTD - Paul Kingdom 10 minute cameo gave away a soft penalty and got booked (in fairness he said he’s ready to retire before the game). He would love the dedicated Uplowman fan base to know his 100% managerial record remains in tact.

GOOD FRIDAY ❌ GREAT SATURDAY ✅

Yesterday Uplowman faced last seasons promotion rivals Beacon Knights in a long awaited game. The Bulls lost both games last year to Beacon Knights, but after being promoted together there was a chance to set the record straight.

The elements proved for a difficult game with some very strong wind playing a big part in the first half, blowing excessively strongly towards our goal! Beacon Knights striked first after Uplowman failed to clear their lines. Uplowman responded with a penalty won by Charlie Cornish (Redwoods Inn) and converted by Harry Jee (Kingdom Automotive). The game found itself level at half time. The manager Isaac Reed (T&G engineering) left the game abruptly due to a farming inconvenience and so Paul Kingdom (Redwoods Inn) stepped in to have his go at managing. It seems he did Okay I suppose.

Luke Mills (Kingdom Automotive) came on and provided an “exceptional” assist to find Wilf Burns-Cox (Pests Off) feet - who then beat a few defenders before scoring his seventh goal in 3 games. 2-1 Uplowman. Finally Harry Gozna (T&G Engineering) leapt highest to nod away uplowman’s third. 2 goals in 2 games for the young midfielder. And that was that.

An excellent result for the club who have soared up the table into 5th place. Up next Otterton at home.

MOTM: Stellar defensive performance from Nicky Pratt (JCT Collectables)

DOTD: Isaac Reed (T&G Engineering)

THE BULLS GO SMASHING THROUGH TO THE SEMI FINAL!

Yesterday Uplowman travelled to Tedburn St Mary for the quarter final of The Football Express Cup. We are the current holders of the cup so we needed to put on a display worthy of that honour. A strong squad was assembled and with players arriving in the nick of time for kick off, we got underway on a lovely surface.

Early pressure resulted in some lovely footwork from Wilf Burns-Cox (Pests Off) who dribbled his way into the box and slotted home the opener, shortly after Charlie Cornish (Redwoods Inn) got our second with a delicious finish into the top corner. This was followed by Steven Grant (T&G Engineering) executing a top corner finish himself, the ball sitting up just perfectly for him to rifle in our third from the edge of the box.

20 minutes of madness and some Route one football snapped us back to reality as Tedburn notched 3 in quick succession, meaning the boys really had to lock in, on the cusp of half time Wilf got his second goal of the game to put us 4-3 up at the break. The catalogue of goals on display in that first half would bring a tear to anyone's eye.

A few changes and tweaks at half time and we set off again, Wilf completed his hat trick with again a delightful run finished off with a tidy shot 5-3 Uplowman. Toby Marshall (Jean & John Lister) joined the scoresheet with a smart finish to give Uplowman some breathing room to see us 6-3 ahead. Sam Jee (T&G Engineering) then got his first of the season when his shot found the back of the net - keeper had no chance. Finally to top it off the man on fire Wilf got his fourth of the game to settle it 8-3.

An all around brilliant performance from the boys in Yellow who were not deterred from a bad period in the first half, who let their quality shine through to put us in the Semi Final of our favourite cup.

Man of the Match: Surprise surprise Wilf Burns-Cox

DOTD: Young Charlie Berner (T&G Engineering) who’s chip shot went wide of an empty net đŸ«Ł
