Our finals weekend got underway this morning in very damp and later very wet conditions. Sadly at lunch conditions deteriorated rather quickly making the green unsafe for play. A decision was made to abandon play and move the afternoon matches to tomorrow.
The only matches completed this morning were the Over 65's and the John Bohannon Mixed Pairs
The Over 65's resulted in a win for Graham Heard against Ron Wimpress and in the John Bohannon, Denise Grimshaw and John Hartley beat Corinne Laverty and Mike Donovan.
Well done to the winners and commiserations to the runners up.
Thank you to the club members who braved the weather to support the players.
Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow.

With a few matches still to play in the CBBA mixed medley fours competition, this weekend the attention turns to internal competitions Finals Weeekend.
Whilst we have the usual complement of previous champions taking part, we have an number of newer players competing for trophies which is very good for the club.
The weekend starts on Saturday with a morning session at 1030 am comprising 2 matches. The Overs 65's between Graham Heard and Ron Wimpress and The John Bohannon Mixed Pairs between Mike Donovan/Corinne Laverty vand John Hartley/Denise Grimshaw.
The afternoon session comprising 3 matches starting at 2 pm. The Men's Pairs between Graham Heard/Ray Winters and Terry Hatcher/Ron Wimpress. The Men's Handicap between Phil Poole and Roy Davidson. The Ladies Championship between Steph Heard and Lyn Simmons.

On Sunday once again the morning session will commence at 1030 am with the Two Woods between Graham Heard and Mike Donovan. The Ladies Pairs between Judy Bohannon/Corrine Laverty and Enid Cookson/Kim Herring. The Coronation Shield between John Hawker and Dave Vickery.
The afternoon session again comprising 3 matches starting at 1430 pm. The Ladies Handicap between Sue Lyne and Denise Grimshaw. The Peter Horlock Trophy, a triples competition, between Kevin Stoneman/Barry Drabwell/Ron Wimpress and Mike Donovan/Phil Poole/Karen Ramirez. The Men's Championship between Graham Heard and Colin Harrington.

Good Luck to all the players, some have come through some long matches in earlier rounds to reach the finals.
A thank you to the club members who have volunteered to act as markers, a difficult job especially as they can only answer questions from the players, not advise in any way and the most difficult is not applauding the good shots.

If you have time and would like to visit us we are at Warriors Rest in Maypole Road, Tiptree, you will be welcome but please respect the players as for them it is a big moment in their bowling life.

Well, sadly our Gala Day is done and dusted for another year.
What a great day it was, with 48 bowlers taking part in competitive, but fun and very friendly matches of six ends to find the winners.
The winning team comprised players from Tiptree and Manningtree & Mistley Bowls Club. The runners up comprised players from Tiptree and again Mistley & Manningtree!
Besides ourselves, the clubs involved were from Arclight, Danbury, Mistley & Manningtree, Rayleigh, Danbury, Colchester West End, and a former Tiptree member and secretary (Nigel Povey) now playing at Eaton Socon in Cambridgeshire.
Judging by the smiles and comments from our visitors the day was very much enjoyed.
Thanks you to all the bowlers taking part but special mentions must be given to John Farrant who took over from Dave Cookson to organise the day, to Sue Felstead and her lady helpers who, in a very hot kitchen, provided refreshments throughout the day, to Lyn and all the others who helped sell raffle tickets, to Roy and Graham for their work on the green.
Last but least to the crow scarers in chief, Terry, John and Alan who were at the club at 5 30 am to ensure we could avoid even more damage to the green.
Here's to 2027 and maybe new faces amongst the players from all clubs.

After some very fraught weeks where crows have tried destroying our green at Warriors Rest, the club has something to look forward to.
Tomorrow the club will be holding it's annual Gala Day, an event where we invite members of other local clubs to take part.
The format of the day means that two groups of 6 teams playing 5 matches of six ends, the winning team in each group play in a final to find the overall winner. Each team will comprise 2 Tiptree and 2 guest players. Everyone wants to win but the object of the day to enjoy ourselves and have a friendly, fun competition with our guests, some of whom are also friends.
The days starts off with bacon rolls and coffee that provides an opportunity to meet their guests. After the 3 morning matches, there will be a light lunch before the afternoon session of 2 matches.
The afternoon session ends with the Grand Final.
The day ends with a sit-down meal where the events of the day are discussed if you've played well or if you haven't played well, Just Chat!

Playing at Writtle this morning in the Essex area final of the over 60s National Pairs, our ladies, Judy Bohannan and Steph Heard sadly lost.
Playing against a strong pairing from Rochford a very close match resulted in a 16 - 12 loss.
Unfortunately no trip to Leamington for our ladies.
Commiserations to Judy and Steph, but congratulations to the Rochford ladies, good luck in Warwickshire.

Tomorrow morning, two of our very experienced lady players, Judy Bohannan and Steph Heard will playing in the Essex area final of the over 60s National Pairs.
The match is at the neutral venue of Writtle Bowls Club against a pair of ladies from Rochford Bowls Club.
The winners of this match will play the next match at Leamington in Warwickshire, the home of Bowls England.
Well done for the ladies of both clubs reaching this stage of the competition.
Good luck to Judy and Steph. Play well tomorrow.

County Round up (Men)

Not to forget our men players, several have played in various individual and team competitions.

John Farrant played in the County 2 woods but was beaten in the first round and in the County Unbadged Singles he beat another Tiptree player, Ray Winters, in the first round only to lose in the 2nd.

John, together with Colin Harrington represented Group 2 in the Ashford Cup and have made it to the final on 26th July at Braintree.

John (again), along with Kevin Stoneman and Graham Heard also represented Group 2 in the Wally Ball competition and have made it to the final on 2nd August at Essex County.

County Round Up (Ladies)

On Thursday 9th July, 3 of our ladies, Mo Wood, Edna Woods and Judy Bohannan, played in and Essex County Competition called the Benevolent 2 wood triples. On their way to the C Area final they defeated 2 teams from Thorpe le Soken and 1 from Holland on Sea.
Playing 3 matches each of 8 ends, they won their section with 6 points, plus 16 points.

Their opponents in the final were yet another team from Thorpe, who won their section also with 6 points, plus 17 shots.

Our ladies won the final to become overall C Area winners and go on to play in the Essex County Unfinished finals on the 1st August at Braintree Bowls Club. They will play is a semi final against the winners of A Area, Should they win that match, they will play against either the B or D Area winners.

In other ladies competitions, Judy Bohannan reached the area final of the County Singles.
Judy and Mo together with Steph Heard and Denise Grimshaw reached the final of the County Open 4s.
Finally, Mo, Edna, Steph and Judy sadly lost to Holland on Sea in the Senior 4s.

Great efforts by all the players.
