🌟 Hard Work That Pays Off – Orla! 🌟

A huge congratulations to Orla, who has successfully passed Stage 6! πŸŽ‰

Orla’s hard work, dedication, and positive attitude have helped her achieve this fantastic milestone. Throughout her swimming journey, she has continued to develop her skills, build her confidence, and demonstrate a real commitment to improving every week.

As well as her success in the pool during lessons, Orla recently took part in a Lifesaving Gala, showing her willingness to challenge herself and put her swimming skills into practice in a new environment.

πŸ‘ Well done, Orla! Your effort and determination are truly paying off, and we’re incredibly proud of everything you’ve achieved. Keep up the amazing work! πŸ’™πŸŠβ€β™€οΈβœ¨

πŸ‘πŸ’™ A Huge Shout Out to Natalie and Stacey! πŸ’™πŸ‘

We would like to give a huge shout out to two of our fantastic swimming teachers, Natalie and Stacey, for their hard work, dedication, and passion for teaching swimming. This is also shared by some wonderful feedback for one of of families.

Week after week, they help swimmers build confidence, develop essential water safety skills, and achieve their goals in the pool. Their enthusiasm, patience, and encouragement make a real difference to the children and families they teach.

Whether it's helping a nervous beginner take their first splash or supporting swimmers as they progress through the stages, Natalie and Stacey always go above and beyond.

Thank you both for everything you do for our swimmers and for being such valued members of the Kore Aquatics team. We are incredibly lucky to have you! πŸŠβ€β™€οΈπŸŒŸ

🌊 Respect the Water 🌊

With summer just around the corner, many families will soon be heading to the coast to enjoy the sun, sea, and sand. β˜€οΈπŸ–οΈ

But are you aware of the dangers hidden beneath the surface?

One of the biggest risks at the beach is currents, particularly rip currents. These powerful channels of water can quickly pull even strong swimmers away from the shore.

🌊 How do rip currents work?
As waves break on the beach, water builds up near the shore. This water then looks for the easiest route back out to sea, creating a fast-moving current that can carry swimmers away from the beach.

If you're caught in a rip current:
βœ… Stay calm
βœ… Don't try to swim directly back to shore against the current
βœ… Float to conserve energy
βœ… Raise your hand and shout for help
βœ… Swim parallel to the shoreline until you are free of the current, then head back to shore

The best way to stay safe is to:
🏊 Swim at lifeguarded beaches
🚩 Pay attention to beach safety flags
πŸ‘€ Keep children under close supervision
πŸ’™ Learn essential water safety and survival skills

Remember, water can be enjoyable and safe when we understand and respect its power.

🌟 Superstar Swimmer – Sebastian! 🌟

A superb effort this week from Sebastian, who has achieved his Stage 1 swimming certificate! πŸŽ‰

Sebastian has worked hard to develop his water confidence and build the core skills needed to complete Stage 1. From travelling through the water to improving his floating and safety skills, he has shown great determination and enthusiasm throughout his lessons.

This achievement is a fantastic milestone and provides a strong foundation for the next stage of his swimming journey.

πŸ‘ Well done, Sebastian! Keep up the brilliant work β€” we can't wait to see what you achieve next! πŸ’™πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈβœ¨

πŸ’™πŸŒŠ **Spreading the Water Safety Message** πŸŒŠπŸ’™

A huge thank you to the wonderful staff and pupils at Tipton Green Junior School for welcoming our Activity Coordinator, Mitchell, into school this morning.

We were delighted to have the opportunity to share the important message of water safety with approximately 360 pupils, helping them understand how to stay safe in and around water and what to do in an emergency.

Education is one of the most effective ways to prevent drowning, and it was fantastic to see so many children engaging with the session, answering questions, and learning valuable life-saving information.

Thank you once again to everyone at Tipton Green Junior School for your warm welcome and support. Together, we can help create a generation of children who are safer, more confident, and more knowledgeable around water. πŸ’™

πŸŒŠπŸ’™ **Building Water Competence Through Real-Life Challenges** πŸ’™πŸŒŠ

Swimming lessons are about so much more than learning strokes and swimming lengths.

Recently, our swimmers have been developing essential water safety and survival skills by taking part in a range of exciting activities designed to prepare them for real-life situations.

πŸŠβ€β™€οΈ Floating while holding a flotation device to build confidence and learn how to conserve energy.

😎 Swimming in blackout goggles to simulate swimming in low visibility or darkness, helping children stay calm and focused when they can't rely on their sight.

πŸ§— Climbing over floating equipment to mimic the challenges of getting over rocks, water jetties, or other obstacles they may encounter around open water.

These activities help children develop resilience, problem-solving skills, and the confidence to react safely if they ever find themselves in difficulty.

At Tipton Leisure Centre, we're proud to support the development of not just strong swimmers, but **water competent swimmers** with skills for life. πŸ’¦

πŸ’™πŸŒŠ **Float to Live – It Could Save Your Life** πŸŒŠπŸ’™

If someone unexpectedly falls into cold water, their body's natural reaction is often to take a sudden, involuntary gasp. This can lead to water being inhaled into the lungs, and it only takes around **330ml of liquid to begin the drowning process**.

That's why the **Float to Live** message is so important.

πŸ›Ÿ Tilt your head back with your ears submerged
πŸ›Ÿ Relax and try to control your breathing
πŸ›Ÿ Move your hands and feet gently to help you stay afloat
πŸ›Ÿ Once your breathing is under control, call for help or swim to safety if possible

The initial shock of cold water can make it difficult to think clearly, but floating allows your body time to adjust to the temperature and helps bring your breathing back under control.

Learning water safety skills is just as important as learning to swim. The more we educate ourselves and our children, the safer we can all be in and around water.
