It’s Saturday 13th September, loch Asgog at 10.30 am. Caught this native Brownie after quite a few changes of different flys. Usually it’s traditional flys that do the trick, however I thought I would try this one and bingo.
Does anyone on here know what the name of the fly, let me know.

Sunday 15th Sept 2024

Had a good few hours this morning at Asgog. The Surface was busy with Trout rising on the surface, not seen this for quite a while. Just as I was about to retire from the Loch I caught this native Brownie, not sure if it was a Ferox Trout as it had a slightly hooked lower jaw, but I am sure some of you out there will keep me right.
As the season draws near to a close, I have to mention a memorable day I had a few weeks ago that I will reflect on and really enjoyed.
I was accompanied by a Legend of Tighnabruaich Peter Macbride, on Saturday 31st August. What an amazing guy. We both fished Asgog for about 4 hours and Peter reminded me when we set off in the boat that he was keen to be back at the playing fields for the Shinty that started at 2pm.
Off we went, In the first hour Peter caught a sizeable Brownie at the far end of the Loch and shortly thereafter I locked onto another good Brownie.
We decided to stop at the castle for Brunch, both having the biggest Pork pies I’ve seen for ages washed down with Coffee. Peter gave me a history lesson of the area and people, it was intriguing and amazing and before we new it nearly an hour had passed.
Off we went again in the boat and at the bottom corner down from Asgog castle, Peter connected with another good sized native Brownie.
That was a perfect finish to our day Peter 2, Tom 1. All native Brownies and all each weighed over 1lb. Back to the boat house !!
Good finish to Peters Day with Kyle’s winning 5 -3.

Had a perfect days fishing at Ascog today.
The conditions were perfect, slight breeze and overcast. Using a slow sinking line and a traditional fly, 4 brownies and a last seasons rainbow were brought to the net. I kept the Rainbow and 1 brownie and returned the others to be caught another day.
I would like to acknowledged the guys who put the boat back in the water and the person that fitted the bilge pump, job well done and the hand pump works a treat.
I am keen to encourage the younger generation from the Tighnabruaich encatchment area to join the Club. If your are thinking of joining but never fly fished before then I would be happy to give you a free lesson and the short term use of a beginners fly rod. Just get in contact with me.

Wishing all our KOBAC members a happy Christmas and all the best for you in the New Year.
Getting into the festive spirit and being a failed fly tier, I came across this Santa Fly and thought, what the heck, I'll give it a go !!.
I will post a picture of the completed fly in the next few days (have a laugh on me !)
Just for fun, if you find the time, have a go yourself, let me know how you get on and better still, post some pictures.
Be careful though, the big man might score you off his Christmas list.

A couple of years ago, during the holidays, I scratched out a sketch of a fly that I thought might be a fun tie for the Christmas season. The first few Santas to come off the vise were so hideous . . .

***Feedback from David for our members ***

I went bank fishing on Lower Powder dam Thursday night and netted a small brownie . Then out on Friday in the boat and saw large rises up near the dam wall . Landed 2 rainbows in fairly quickly succession after seeing them rise . Wet Blue Zulu fly both fish . Returned today and bank fished the same area up by the dam wall and netted 3 fish . Had another pinch my Hares ear nymph on the point . Other fish caught on black hopper . Pic attached . Great sport . Very enjoyable and a willingness to share this with other members . So Lower Powder Dam … concentrate on the dam wall end :-)
