Fungi finders

Fungi finders Running fungi forays, walks and talks in Norfolk and Suffolk. With 40 years of foraging experience,

With 40 years experience of foraging mushrooms, from childhood where my autumns were spent with my Italian father hunting Porcini, to then developing my knowledge of other edible (and toxic!) mushrooms over the subsequent years. The natural progression is to start sharing my knowledge with others. Having led many walks with friends and family over the years I have regularly been asked the question

“why don’t you do this for a living”. Well, I don’t think it’s ever going to make a full time job or make me my fortune (mushrooms are far too seasonal and also unpredictable to be able to confidently arrange forays all year round) but why not get paid for doing something I love and share my years of knowledge.) So this page has been set up to share my exploits, pictures, knowledge and also as channel to take bookings and arrange foraging events. I am happy to take private bookings from individuals or groups interested in fungi walks arranged by myself, or I can be booked to do a talk/walk at your own event. As a qualified chef (many many moons ago) I am also confident when it comes to cooking up fungi so happy to discuss a foraging trip followed by a privately cooked meal for up to 6 people.

🌳✨ Found a beautiful hen of the woods (Grifola frondosa) from my trusty tree — this one fruits for me year after year!

📸 The first pic is in situ, the second a week later after picking.
Now she’s cleaned, marinated, and headed for the dehydrator to become some mushroom jerky 👨‍🍳🍄

Might use them as tasters on future courses… unless they turn out too good and I decide to keep them all to myself 😅

**BIG UPDATE** You may have noticed this page has been quiet for a while. As out of professional respect to my employer I had focused on helping to grow their business and delivering exceptional customer experiences on foraging courses exclusively for them…
However.. I have now been informed my role is redundant. So it’s time for me to get back out there and give you all what you want. More FREE content, The same exceptional course experiences, the same passion, the same …well, ME! But without the shackles.
If you are following this page and/or have been on a course with me, or have experienced my passion for foraging in some other capacity. PLEASE, give this page a share so I can start to grow my own audience again. By all means feel free to review me now on this page. I am also open to discuss opportunities with anyone that may have suitable land/premises or an area for running courses, or food businesses/chefs that may want to look at collaborations.
Here are just a selection of the reviews specifically mentioning me from courses over the last year.

Now I work exclusively for Forage Kitchen running their foraging courses as well as foraging ingredients for these fantastic chefs to work their magic.
Just had my first review from my first week in the business and the first course run on my own as part of the team there.
Anyone who has been on one of my informal walks In the past and enjoyed it, or if you had been thinking of booking a walk and fancy combining it with a sumptuous 3 course meal… have a look at our website and don’t hesitate to book. https://www.foragekitchen.co.uk
There will be opportunities to join me on informal walks still although these will be booked through forage kitchen and priority given to members of our “Foragers year” membership scheme soon to be launched (watch this space)

Edit: on further research
Based on the habitat/trees more likely to be Morchella Dunensis.
Over the moon today. My first Morchella esculenta. Had a hunch about the place as it’s a former chalk quarry. Checked last year and nothing. Got there today, saw a Verpa conica and as I went down to take a pic…out of the corner or my eye spotted the morel. Then searching the area produced more. Sandy grassy scrubland on a chalky area with hawthorne. Oh and of course Wild Garlic!!
