Thank you to all our fantastic campers who stayed overnight at The Sidings as part of our annual Sleep Out Under the Stars! ⛺

We loved exploring the meadows, bat detecting and spending time with you all around the campfire.

Our top highlights had to be the beautiful sunset from our cliff top pathway, hearing Tawny Owls along the Wirral Way, spotting meteor showers in the night sky and seeing what roosting butterflies looked like under our UV torch! 🦋

We hope you had as much fun as we did - see you all again next year!

WORLD RANGER DAY 2026
Every year on 31st July, Rangers around the world commemorate and honour colleagues who have lost their lives whilst on duty, protecting our natural resources. In the last 12 months 132 Rangers across 40 countries have been killed by wild animals, though occupational accidents and illness whilst on duty. A further 42 Rangers across 18 countries were murdered either whilst on duty or killed because of their profession. Fires killed 11 Rangers who were on the front line, protecting valuable habitats and today, Rangers across Europe will be fighting wildfires including fires across Norfolk, Suffolk, Kent, the Cairngorms and around London.

World Ranger Day is also the opportunity to celebrate the work of Rangers and at Wirral Country Park we're delighted to welcome our new Assistant Ranger, Carys, to the team. Carys will be leading on the Wirral Country Park school and public events programme and supporting the Rangers and our incredible friends groups, local residents groups and other volunteers at Heswall Dales and the Hilbre Islands. Today we stand with Rangers around the world, honouring our fallen colleagues and celebrating the role we play in helping to manage these fantastic, wonderful and treasured local places.

Our Sunset Walk to Hilbre for Love Parks Week ended slightly later than advertised but we just couldn't rush back from the island when it looked so beautiful! Our partners the Friends of Hilbre ran their pop up cafe so we could enjoy some refreshments after walking out and we were treated to an amazing sunset on the way back to West Kirby. Guided walks just don't get better than that!

Some pictures from the Wirral Backyard Ultra marathon taking place at the park today and tomorrow. More than one hundred runners started at midday running laps along the Wirral Way. Each lap starting on the hour, every hour until only one runner remains! A truly amazing feat of endurance running! Please be aware that the horse ride will remain closed until midday tomorrow (Sunday 26th).

It's National Dragonfly Week and we thought that was a great reason to do a guided walk around the fantastic Nature Ponds at Wirral Country Park! Thanks to all who came, slapped on the sun cream and braved the heat. We ended up spotting 11 species of Dragonflies and Damselflies including one we've never seen at the park before! The Small Red-eyed Damselfly has only recently made it to Wirral and we're so happy one has turned up on our ponds. Along with the usual Emperor Dragonfly, Brown and Southern Hawkers we also saw a Ruddy Darter, a species not seen here for many years! A great guided walk! Follow us on Eventbrite to keep up to date with more exciting walks to come!

Today is National Meadows Day so we celebrated the wildflowers and insects of our brilliant meadows at Thurstaston with a Meadow Explorer event! Thanks to all who came, we had a great time finding bees, butterflies and grasshoppers. We admired the beautiful flowers blooming, even if it was a bit dull and breezy! The meadows look so good right now, be sure to check them out if you're at the park. You can also keep up to date with future events by following us on Eventbrite.
