πŸ“… Wednesday 17th June Β· The George Hutton Oval Β· Cumbria Villages Cricket League

Threlkeld's Midweek Foxes fell to defeat against Stainton CC after posting 87-8 from their 20 overs. Despite the result, there were several positives to take from the evening.

Fidrmuc led the way with an excellent 43 retired not out on his first appearance of the season, anchoring the innings and providing the backbone of the total. Support came from J Morland with an unbeaten 10, but wickets at regular intervals made it difficult for Threlkeld to build momentum. In reply, Stainton were aggressive from the off, with Ingemells retiring on 45 and Booker finishing unbeaten on 22 to see the visitors home. Threlkeld's wickets were shared by D Brookbanks and J Morland, while all the bowlers battled hard against a strong batting display by the visitors.

⭐ Player of the Match: M. Fidrmuc, a composed and classy 43* on his return to the side.

A special mention to Mariah Corfield, who made her first league appearance for the club this season, hopefully the first of many. πŸ‘

Thanks to Gary Stewardson for scoring, to Sandra for looking after everyone, and to The Clubhouse At Keswick for superb food.

🌟 Threlkeld Academy fell short in a sunny Wednesday evening away at Stainton CC but the night belonged to 11-year-old Ted Webster!

After being asked to field, Threlkeld kept it tight early on with a breakthrough from Bolton, before Teasdale picked up two wickets. The highlight of the night came from young Ted Webster, who claimed a sensational hat-trick in only his second senior game of cricket. This was thanks to great catches from Hewitson, his dad Michael, and Bolton. A moment that will live long in the memory. Corfield and Teasdale picked up late wickets as Stainton posted a tough total of 169.

Despite losing Ted early in the chase, Michael Webster and Armstrong (23) launched a brilliant counter-attack, putting on 60 runs in 6 overs before Webster retired on 40*. Teasdale kept the fight alive with a brilliant 28, but Threlkeld ultimately finished on 128-7 from their 20 overs, falling short by 41 runs.

A fantastic effort from the whole team and another incredibly memorable night for the Academy. The future is bright. 🦊

Thanks to Stainton CC for hosting us, we look forward to the return fixture.

Man of the match, Ted Webster (available to sponsor).

🏏 After multiple rain offs, finally the Academy are back in action!

Threlkeld won the toss and elected to field. Darren Brookbanks got things off to a perfect start, taking a wicket with just his third ball. The ball was then handed to debutant Ted Webster, and with his very first delivery the ball was struck straight to his dad Michael at mid-off who took the catch calmly. A moment the Websters won’t forget! Ted’s spell overall was superb.

Amanda Corfield kept things tight with controlled bowling, whilst Johnny Morland was unlucky not to pick up a wicket not helped by captain James Tripney dropping two chances. Callie White, making her debut in hard ball cricket, picked up her first wicket, caught by Jacob Hewitson who will still be feeling it this morning. Beth Donnelly-Stott Anderton rounded off the innings with a clean bowl to finish things off, as Caldbeck posted 126-4 from their 20 overs.

Chasing 127, Brookbanks got the reply off to a flying start with some crisp boundaries before a mix-up in the middle saw him run out. Threlkeld lost wickets at regular intervals, but there were real highlights. Beth Donnelly-Stott Anderton (14) played a fantastic innings, including a lovely straight drive to the boundary. Finlay Teasdale (17) and Luke Armstrong (17*) both contributed with positive batting, but it wasn’t quite enough as Threlkeld fell short by 35 runs.

Congratulations to Caldbeck CC, who played the game in exactly the right spirit and made it a great evening for everyone involved.

A special thank you to Sandra for everything she does, and to Alex and John for scoring, and both Katies for umpiring and square leg.

πŸ“… Saturday 13th June Β· Cumbria Cricket League Division One.

Threlkeld won the toss and elected to field. Raven and Winter opened the bowling with real purpose, keeping Egremont under constant pressure from the off. Winter was rewarded with 3 wickets for 18 from 9 tight overs. With the openers setting the platform, Jefferson came on, taking 5 wickets for 14 runs from 9 overs. Rickerby, made an impact with 2 wickets of his own and was supported well by some quick bowling from Dunn.

The fielding was equally impressive. Bannister pouched an incredible catch in the slips, Coe took a sharp one in the gully, and Cloete, behind the stumps took 2. A complete team effort in the field as Egremont were bowled out for 128. Scott (30) and Raynor (35) offering the resistance.

129 to chase and the Foxes went about it with confidence putting on 101 for the first wicket. Hughes played exceptionally well scoring 61, including 9 boundaries. Eventually, Hughes fell to Dixon. Lihou continued on, batting through for the second week running, finished unbeaten on 44*, with Jefferson who chipped in with 18* to seal the win in the 27th over.

We would like to thank Egremont Cricket Club for hosting, playing the game in great spirit, and providing a tea to remember. We look forward to the return fixture.

πŸ“… Saturday 6th June Β· Cumbria Cricket League Division One

A statement performance at The George Hutton Oval by Threlkeld CC. Bouncing back after a cup defeat last weekend, the Foxes made it two wins from their last two league fixtures.

The conditions were challenging given the recent weather, and Groundsman Gary had done an exceptional job to get the wicket prepared and give the Foxes a chance of a game. In such conditions, Captain Bannister won the toss and elected to field.

The tone was set immediately, with a sharp piece of fielding from Cloete resulting in a run out by Watters for the first wicket. Raven and Dunn opened the bowling in fine form. Raven from the Bar eS, Keswick end with 2 wickets from 9 tight overs, and Dunn rolling back the years to take the new ball from The Square Orange end, chipping in with 2 excellent wickets of his own. Jefferson then came on, taking 4 wickets for 7 runs from 3 overs. Seascale were all out just before drinks for 59.

60 to chase, and Lihou had other ideas about making an afternoon of it. Supported by Hope, Lihou took the game apart β€” 47* from just 41 balls, including 5 fours and 4 sixes. Hope provided company at the other end with 13*, and the target was reached in the 11th over to win by 9 wickets.

We would like to thank Graham Hewitson for another trademark tea and keeping all the players looked after from both sides, the ever dependable Jeff Wallace for his efforts with the scorebook, and Seascale Cricket Club for playing the game in the right spirit β€” we look forward to the return fixture.

🦊 Match Report | Midweek Foxes vs Temple Sowerby Cricket Club Midweek. Wednesday 27th May · Cumbria Villages Cricket League.

On a beautifully sunny evening, the Midweek Foxes welcomed Temple Sowerby for another village league clash.

Winning the toss, the Foxes elected to bat first and quickly set about building an imposing total.

Opening the innings were last season’s top scorer, Tom Fell and captain Dickie Johnson.

The pair soon found their rhythm, with Fell producing his trademark aggressive stroke play and rapid scoring, while Johnson anchored the innings more steadily; although not without flair, including a huge six launched straight back over the bowler’s head.

Fell made an excellent 38 before falling, while skipper Johnson retired on 40 for the second time this season. Martin Lewis, fresh from an excellent performance at the weekend, unfortunately fell first ball, bringing Kieran Rickerby to the crease. Kieran played a superb attacking innings, striking 41* from just 26 balls to keep the Foxes moving at an impressive rate.

Late in the middle order, Darren Brookbanks, Leon Finn and Steve Stables added a hugely valuable 42 runs between them, with Finn and Stables carrying their bats.

The standout moment of the innings came from Finn, who smashed the final ball of the innings for his first ever six, a moment celebrated loudly by teammates and supporters alike.

The Foxes finished on a commanding 168-3 from their 20 overs.

Defending what looked a competitive total, opening bowlers Tom Cullens and Fell delivered tidy opening spells, although neither could make the breakthrough. The breakthrough eventually came courtesy of the in-form Brookbanks, who claimed his eighth wicket of the midweek season already, surpassing the highest wicket tally achieved by any Midweek Foxes bowler across the whole of last season.

Ash Neesham provided excellent support, taking two wickets from his four overs, while the rest of the bowling attack kept things consistently tight.

The Foxes were sharp in the field throughout; although no half-chances stuck, the pressure and energy in the field kept the visitors scoring rate under control. However, their middle order showed good resilience, with two batters retiring and Zach carrying his bat for 27, but ultimately the target of 168 proved beyond reach.

The Foxes secured a 34-run victory, maintaining their unbeaten village league record with three wins and a tie from their opening four matches.

Player of the Match deservedly went to Darren Brookbanks, sponsored by Lake Road Brunch Keswick. A superb all-round display, a vital wicket, outstanding fielding, and an excellent contribution with the bat in what is rapidly becoming a potentially record-breaking season for him.

The game was played in fantastic spirits throughout. The Foxes enjoyed welcoming Temple Sowerby and look forward to the return fixture later in the season.

Special thanks, as always, go to Sandra for hosting, the team of scorers led by the ever-reliable Trevor, and the The Clubhouse At Keswick Golf Club for once again providing excellent food after the match.

Until next time.... UTK
