Final course update from myself and the team this week folks,
Good afternoon everyone,
Just a wee update on what’s been happening around the course and what’s coming up over the next few days.
As promised, the team got straight to work on the bunker edges and, thanks to a tremendous effort, we completed them within two days. They’re now looking sharp and well-defined again.
Alongside this, we’ve applied a nutrient spray to the greens and approaches, including a high iron content. This is the reason for the darker appearance of the greens and approaches at the moment. The turf will return to its usual green colour over the next day or two as the treatment takes effect.
We’ve also been keeping on top of daily cutting operations, with the tees, approaches and greens being cut every day, alongside a significant amount of rough work across the course.
Our semi-rough mower will be back in action tomorrow, which means the return of the presentation lines on the par 3s, double bands around the fairways, and definition from the tees through to the fairways. A welcome sight for everyone!
Looking ahead, I plan to begin slitting the greens either later this week or early next week. This will be followed by an application of wetting agent and a thorough irrigation cycle to help alleviate some of the brown patches currently visible on the greens. These areas are the result of what’s known as dry patch—a condition where certain areas of soil become resistant to water, preventing moisture from penetrating evenly into the rootzone. The treatment programme will help restore moisture levels and improve turf health in these affected areas.
On Monday, we’ll be focusing on the tee banks and tee complexes to bring them back into shape. Once this work is completed, we’ll be in a very strong position heading into the rest of the season.
For the remainder of this week, the team’s focus will be on course presentation, with fairways, semi-rough and rough all receiving attention. As always, we’ll be flat out to ensure the course continues to improve.
Finally, I’m delighted to say that our young apprentice has officially joined the team after successfully passing his probationary period with flying colours. A well-deserved achievement, and we’re pleased to have him as a permanent member of the team.
Many thanks, everyone.
