FINAL SCORE: 5-4
Great win for the lads which gets us our first 3 points on the board but more importantly our first ever win in Sunday League Football!
We started the game off slow giving them too much time on the ball and allowing to many long balls to trouble our defence. 20 minutes into the game however Louis Johnstone opened the scoring! A back pass to their keeper was pressured by Louis and the keeper didn’t want any of it which led to Louis having an easy tap in⚽️ A few minutes later Callum Sanderson made it 2-0 to the boys with a calm finish into the bottom right hand corner of the goal which was assisted by Ben Bowker who timed the ball through beautifully⚽️ The last 15 minutes of the first half we took the foot off the gas and with 10 minutes to play we conceded a penalty which resulted in the game ending 2-1 at half time.
Slow start to the second half allowed AFC Cleveleys back into the game and they made it 2-2 with a finish into the bottom corner from a 1v1. We came back hungry for goals and that goal came from our CM Elliot Rothwell with a 30 yard strike down the middle of the goal, their keeper only managing finger tips⚽️ Goal came with a little bit of confusion but the ref gave it and the goal stood! A free kick was won in a great shooting position and up stepped Louis who neatly curled the shot through the wall and into the bottom left corner to make the game 4-2 to the boys⚽️ A wide free kick from AFC Cleveleys was cleared but dropped on the edge and with no pressure on him their player managed to shoot with power through all the bodies and into the back of the net to make the game interesting. Tom Collier picked up the ball in midfield and played a ball through to our LW Callum, that’s with being taken out with a heavy blow to the ankle, which meant Callum was through on goal but a horrendous challenge from their centre back not only resulted in a yellow card being shown but a Penalty to the boys. Up stepped Callum to get his second of the game and he did that by smashing the pen down the middle⚽️ Sloppy defending resulted in AFC Cleveleys getting their 4th but with great heart and determination the lads managed to see the game off and come out of victors!!!
