Hello. We have now closed our green for the winter to all players. Our lovely maintenance team will be in at regular intervals to work on it ready for next season. Thankyou to everyone who has come along over the last few months to play, watch and support us. If you would like to join us next year, just get in touch. We would love to welcome you to the club.

Today was President's Day at Thornaby Village Bowling Club - the last event of the season. Attendance was lower than usual. Even the President Charlie Tighe was struck down with something fluish so couldn't attend. It could have been because it's a Bank Holiday Weekend, or it could have been the weather forecast.
The day started with the Freshers' Trophy - for new members in their first or second year of membership. That was won by Ray Lippe after a one end shoot out between him and Iain Bradford , both had the same number of wins in a Round Robin Contest . After a buffet lunch we had the Final of the Club Championship between Eric Allsop and Les Harrison. This started earlier than planned because of the thunderstorm forecast. Eric was not on his normal form but Les was so he won, making Club history for winning the Championship 6 times. But Les is leaving the Club now so this is a record set to be broken, starting next year.

Our final internal competition of the season, the Brian Rhea memorial trophy took place this evening. With 4 wins out of 4, our winners were Colin and Marty. Why not enquire about joining us. Next year it could be you.

And in another external competition, this team played the first day of the Spicer Trophy, named after and first started by Les Spicer, the Chairman of Ropner Park Bowling Association for 20 years. The team was split into two, each playing a d winning games in the morning and afternoon of Wed 12th August at Ropner Park. They now progress to the semi finals on 19th August.

Yedterday in 34°C temperstures, we saw the first of the five internal competition finals. The Final of the Vets Trophy between Charlie Tighe and Mike Atkins. It looked like a walkover at one point, Charlie was streets ahead. But he seemed to lose the length while Mike got his eye in. Charlie needed 1 to win for four ends but Mike kept scoring 2s and 3s. But then it happened, Charlie won a vital end and took the Trophy.
Apologies for the quality of the photo, there'll be a better one on awards night. Congratulations to Charlie, hard luck but good try to Mike.

Last Saturdays Winner of the Alf Bayles Trophy was Les Harrison. A new World Cup Format was introduced, 2 leagues of 5 with the person at the top playing the runner up of the other group. Each group played on their own 2 rinks, and the winner of each group could pick their rink of choice. At least this way, people could play at least 4 games instead of the usual 1 if they were beaten in the first round. Thank you for the 10 people who made the effort to play 👏 Next competition is the penultimate Arthur Mowbray Bowl which is preferably a triple format ( based on numbers or a pairs round robin ) which is on Sunday 2nd August at 530pm 👍

Australian Pairs Winners last weekend were Colin McNeil and Marty Smith who won 4 out of their 5 games in the Round Robin Tournament. Runners up were Iain Bradford and Steph Story. Congratulations 👏🎉🏆
