Disappointing end to the league campaign with a 6-2 humbling to title favourites Coulby.

Blown away in the first half hour and we never recovered.

Another two goals for Wagga’s season tally proved to be the only glimmer of light on a disappointing morning.

Right gutter to bow out of the Manjaros Langbaurgh League Terry Smith Trophy after coming up just short in a ding-dong with Tipsy Cow Athletic.

Wayne Flanagan got us off to a flyer by slotting home from close-range from a Vasile Bucuresteanu cross.

Prem high-flyers Tipsy Cow soon pegged us back but the lads responded in fine fashion.

Flanagan latched on to Karl Charlton’s flick on to fire us back into the lead before Bucuresteanu’s cutback was expertly rifled home from the edge of the box by Jack Williams.

Momentum shifted back in favour of our hosts as they hit us with a quickfire double to leave the tie back in the balance at the break.

Now attacking against the wind, the lads gave it everything to try and secure that semi final spot but ultimately our cup hopes were undone as the hosts caught us napping on a throw.

A frantic final five minutes left both sides probably feeling like a defeat.

Myton broke the deadlock early on, punishing some slack marking from a set-piece. We were fortunate not to fall two behind when the crossbar came to our rescue before Karl Charlton knocked an opportunity for a leveller over.

We stepped it up after the break, and following several substitutions, had the visitors on the back foot without being able to get the finish.

Finally, after going five up top, Guti Serban embarked on a mazy run. His effort was blocked, but Vasile Bucuresteanu was on hand to collect the rebound and rifle home on 89 minutes.

The lads rushed to get the ball for the restart to go in search of a winner but disaster struck. Despite winning possession straight back, we lost it, and Myton pounced to regain the lead.

Back to square one with just four minutes of injury time to go.

The lads went at it hell for leather, winning a corner. Up came keeper Adam Lincoln, and he distracted the markers to allow Arran Scott to power home from Florin Craciun’s cross.

Myton’s keeper suffered an injury attempting to save it. After receiving treatment, he was forced off and replaced with the sub goalie for the final 90 seconds, and what an impact he had.

Another cross was whipped in, pandemonium ensued, Charlton headed towards the top corner but somehow the stopper clawed it away with his first touch. Genuinely a stunning stop.

Dramatic finish but one where both sets of players left disappointed not to pick up the win.

After illness left us without a keeper, hotshot Wayne Flanagan stepped in to pull on the gloves until Tony Shaw arrived and came to our rescue.

We started rank in truth and struggled to get going in the first half. Shaw pulled off a cracking save right in his bottom left corner with his first touch.

Roundel continued to look the more dangerous, and they deservedly broke the deadlock midway through the opening period when their forward was set free and made no mistake one-on-one.

We finally started to pick up before the break and equalised with the last kick off the half. Felix took on three defenders, produced 45 chops, before eventually chipping it straight in the top right corner.

Some strong words and a tactical change at the half time led to a much better performance in the second period.

Karl Charlton’s header cannoned off the inside of the post before he fired over from close-range after the keeper spilled one. Another effort struck the top of the crossbar as frustrations began to mount.

Finally, with five minutes to go, some fine hold up play from Charlton was rewarded as he teed up Bucuresteanu to rifle home.

Tough one to take for the home defence, who had put in a strong effort to keep us out. But they suffered another blow within seconds as our little pocket rocket Bucuresteanu sealed his treble.

Three points and onto the next game ⚽️🦊🦃

Apologies for the late post, but we’ve just finally managed to get home after what felt like play until South Bank scored.

The bell had been rung for last orders in the nearby St Peter’s Club by the time that eventually happened, leaving us sick as a chip and unable to drown our sorrows after conceding right at the death.

Having been humbled here in the cup a few months back, the lads were determined not to suffer the same fate but made a nightmare start going one down early doors from a set-piece.

But back came those Foxy Turkey Chasers, and on his first start for 13 months out through injury, Karl Charlton produced an equaliser with a free-kick of his own.

Wayne Flanagan turned the scoreline on its head on 25 minutes and it was a lead we fought to keep.

The league leaders had plenty of the ball second half and were denied by two superb stops courtesy of Adam Lincoln.

The sun set over the Eston Hills but still the game went on as we held South Bank at bay. Thirsty work indeed 💦

Eventually, in 18th minute of four added on, the leaders punished some slack marking to knock home a leveller. Gutted.

To be fair, ref Matty Thornton showed why he’s one of the best about and let things flow in what was a good game against a top side.

The title is in South Bank’s own hands now going into the final three games.

All the best for the run-in 👍🏼

Weather permitting, we’ll be back over the Harold Wilson next Sunday.
