Nestled in the beautiful countryside of North Yorkshire and with a splendid backdrop of the rolling hills on one side and lush vales on the other, Thirsk & Northallerton Golf Club is one of those parkland courses that is simply a pleasure to play. It is set in a richly agricultural area and offers superb views of the Hambleton Hills to the east and Wensleydale to the west. Founded in 1914 and extended from 9 holes to its present 18 holes in 1997, Thirsk & Northallerton offers a warm welcome to members, visitors, societies and corporate parties, and offers an exciting challenge to golfers of all ages and handicaps. Our indoor Swing Studio was built in 2020 and offers the latest trackman instruction/lessons and simulation play. Situated close to both the A19 and A1, Thirsk & Northallerton Golf Club is easily accessible from all directions. Not played TNGC before? It was a lovely summer’s evening last night for the final Nine & Dine event of the 2026 season. Several teams signed up to play and as usual, Nikki and her team produced delicious food with an indoor BBQ buffet and cake to follow. The winners were:

In first place Julie & Rob Birch
2nd place Christine Wardell and Keith Hunt
3rd place Jim and Helen Moore
Nearest the pin on 3rd hole for ladies was Vera R***r and nearest the pin on 8th for the Gents was no-one!

The overall winners for the series with the best 3 scores to count are as follows:-

Ladies – Margaret Mosley
Gents – a 3-way tie between Derek Shiels, Dave Clark and Ken Green who all won a bottle of wine and £10 on their bar card.

Both the Ladies and Gent’s Captains thanked everyone who took part in the event this summer and to Nikki for all her hard work and support of the event.

A great day was had by all yesterday who took part in our Lady Captain Kathryn Clark’s Away Day at Teesside Golf Club. Ladies enjoyed breakfast in the clubhouse prior to playing a 4BBB pairs competition which was then followed by a lovely meal and prize presentation. The weather was very pleasant, the course in lovely condition and the food delicious and very well presented. Kathryn gave thanks to the staff of the club and to Maggie Griffin for helping her out on the day.
Congratulations and prizes were presented to the winners who were:
Nearest the pin on hole 3 – Sue Haines
All winners were amazingly on 41 points, so on countback in 3rd place was Vera R***r and Chris Linathan, 2nd place to Mavis Burton and April Sey and 1st place to Sally Brass and Christine Wardell.
A mention and small prize was also presented to our new ladies Caroline Horton and Elaine Austin for taking part together with Chris Milligan. Denise Brockbank our Lady Vice Captain presented Kathryn with a bouquet of flowers from the ladies section by way of a big thank you for all her hard work organising the day.

The TNGC Club Championships were played over the weekend in very pleasant weather conditions and involved playing an 18 hole medal competition both Saturday and Sunday. For the ladies section, the overall gross score runner up was Hilary Rymer and the winner was Alison Elder. The Yorkshire Plaque net competition runner up was Alma Fox and the winner was Hilary Rymer. It was a closely fought competition, so many congratulations and very well done to the winners and to all the other ladies who took part.

Another very enjoyable and very sociable Nine & Dine event took place yesterday evening in some lovely warm and sunny weather. 16 teams of pairs took part with some very close scores. Congratulations to the winners who were:

In 3rd place Gladys Brown and the Gent’s Vice Captain Karl Watson with 25 points
2nd place to Margaret Mosley and Keith Lewis with 26 points
1st place to Jane Shiels and Peter Dea also with 26 points but who won by a whisker!

The buffet in the clubhouse was fabulous with a delicious pud so many thanks to Nikki and her team once again and to Kathryn our Lady Captain, Denise Brockbank Lady Vice Captain and Karl Watson Gent’s Vice Captain for all their hard work organising the competition. The next and final Nine & Dine of the year is on Saturday, 22nd August with the sign up sheet on the Captain’s Notice Board.

A challenge for the Gent’s Eggs Section today having to play off the red tees in the Ladies and Eggs Annual competition with one lady and one gent to score on each hole. It was a lot of fun with pleasant weather conditions followed by tasty sandwiches and chips in the clubhouse by Nikki and her team. Two winning teams were presented with prizes and the runners up were:
Gordon Hay, Keith Milligan, Gill Fox and Lesly Ford with a score of 99
Also with 99 points but on countback the winning team was Steve Loble, Robert Birch, Rose Burden and Margaret Mosley. Denise Brockbank the Lady Vice Captain and Dave Tucker the Eggs Captain presented the prizes and a big thank you to both of them for all the organisation involved in a successful day.

A breezy day for our Ladies Open today where 27 teams signed up for our Am-Am Stableford competition. Suitably Sporty were in attendance for some enjoyable retail therapy and the half way house was, as always, full of wonderful goodies to choose from by our generous ladies section with our very talented home bakers. A top score of 104 was tough to beat but well done to all who signed up and played today with the results now showing on Howdidido and our Ladies Section TNGC results page. Our next Ladies Open bookable now for next year is a Texas Scramble on Wednesday 5th May 2027. A massive thank you to all those involved in helping and contributing to a very successful day.

There are still a few tee times available for our Ladies Open this coming Wednesday, 5th August if anyone is interested. The format is a team of four Am-Am Stableford - £60 per team with our complimentary half-way house open as usual and the weather should be dry and sunny.

What better way to spend a Saturday's summer evening than to join in the very sociable Nine & Dine at TNGC. This entails a mixed and drawn fun 9 hole competition followed by a very tasty buffet & dessert by Nikki and a prize presentation for the winners.

Kathryn our Lady Captain gave thanks to Nikki and her team for the delicious food.

Kathryn, together with the Gent’s Vice Captain Karl Watson presented the prizes to the winners who were:
3rd place : Ruth Armitage and Ken Green
2nd place : Linda and Graham Mableson
1st place : Margaret Mosley and Keith Milligan

Well done to all the winners and competitors and to both Kathryn and Karl for organising the evening. The next Nine & Dine will be held on Saturday, 8th August.

Love it or hate it it’s heatwave time again and it was a very hot day today for our Ladies Invitation Day with guests invited from other golf clubs to play a team AmAm. A very enjoyable day was had by all although a lot of very pink faces could be seen in the clubhouse at the end of their round 🥵 but the lovely two course meal provided by Nikki and her team was most welcome.

The winners were as follows:
1st place were Dee Naughton and Vanessa Conway with their guests Jenny Hill and Pat Benson with 77 points on countback
2nd place went to Catherine Todd and Margaret Mosley with their guests Sue Bowles and Fiona Hopkins also with 77 points on countback
3rd place went to Mavis Burton and April Sey with their guests Joan Sanderson and Ainsley Morgan with 76 points on countback.

Prizes were also given for nearest the pin by a guest on hole 3 which was Libby Walkinshaw and nearest the pin with 2nd shot on hole 9 by a TNGC member which was Denise Fawcett

Congratulations to Richard Fawcett, Kevin Parker and James Watkin who helped Thirsk and Northallerton GC finish 4th in Yorkshire Division 3 at Teesside GC today.

They had an aggregate score of +8 for their combined 36 holes. TNGC are now promoted to Division 2 which will be played in two weeks time. ⛳️⛳️⛳️⛳️⛳️

Kev Parker finished 9th Individually on the day with a level par score of 144 for his 36 holes. 🙌🙌🙌🙌

Well played lads great performance in the sun ☀️ ☀️ ☀️
