A fantastic turnout from Thirsk & Sowerby Harriers at yesterday’s Great North Run, with a brilliant mix of performances across the iconic 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields. Leading the TaSH contingent home was Sam Wainwright in a superb 1:23:00, followed by Paul Atkinson 1:42:50, Chris Coates 1:46:02, Dave Wood 1:46:24, Emma McQuillan 1:50:23, Leanne Robinson 1:54:04, Tim Waistell 1:56:01, Pete Jackson 1:57:45, Ruth Pollard 1:59:17, Blair Wallace 1:59:35, Vanessa Arthur 2:05:35, Joe Joyce 2:10:52, Peter Molyneux 2:13:02, Louise McVay 2:14:30, Mark Brodie 2:15:42, Phil Craig 2:18:50, Natalie Lyth 2:20:58, Kelly Grieve 2:22:28, Alan Docherty 2:24:02, Ian Ord 2:25:39, Alan Longmire 2:25:47, Andrew Pollard 2:28:41, Laura Till 2:30:59, Nicky Hawkes 2:38:07 and Michelle Barratt 2:58:06. 💙💛 TaSH parkrun roundup 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

This weekend 34 Thirsk & Sowerby Harriers took on 12 different parkruns, from Millfield and Northallerton all the way to Guernsey and Germany! 🌍

⭐ Star performance came from Isaac Myer, who stormed round Marshall Drive in 18:50 to finish 1st overall. Mike Cropper was next quickest in 21:53 at Fountains Abbey, with Bronwyn Mayo clocking 22:25 at Northallerton.

Our biggest turnout was at Millfield, where 11 Harriers ran: Rob Burn 24:00, Mike Sanders 24:56, Sharon Emmott 27:12, Evie Rawlings 29:00, Josie Burn 30:21, Catherine Cundy 34:10, Christine Burn 34:48, Tessa Grant 47:28, Kerry Morgan 47:28, Richard Grant 47:29 and Ian Codling 55:34.

Eight were at Northallerton: Bronwyn Mayo 22:25, Laura Wilson 23:10, Catherine Knott 25:56, Julia Harland 27:40, Phillip Craig 28:24, Vanessa Arthur 29:14, Duncan Fothergill 30:15 and Luke Barletta 31:01.

At Fountains Abbey were Mike Cropper 21:53, Joanne Hunt 31:02, Ian Ord 32:56 and Sara Ramon Moore 33:42, while Natalie Lyth 30:49 and David Lyth 31:51 visited The Demesnes at Barnard Castle.

Further afield, Nicky Hawkes 30:39 ran at Sewerby, Bev Davies 38:35 and Marc Davies 38:36 at Rising Sun, David Palmer 33:43 at Newborough Forest, Anglesey, Lazaro Mwandigha 25:16 and wife Maria at Brook Leys, and Paul Adams 45:05 at Seaford Beach.

Amanda Johnson took TaSH across the water to Guernsey, finishing in 38:48, while this week’s parkrun tourist crown 👑 goes to Pete Jackson, who ran 26:22 at Dreiländergarten parkrun in Weil am Rhein, Germany — close to the borders of France and Switzerland and around 600 miles from Thirsk as the crow flies! 🇩🇪🇫🇷🇨🇭

A cracking afternoon at the Tripsdale Trot Fell Race, held as part of the traditional Bilsdale Show and the Esk Valley Summer Series. Starting and finishing in the showfield, the 8.9km route packs in around 438m of climbing, heading up through the woods onto Nab End Moor before dropping through heather and bracken to Tripsdale Beck, climbing again onto Hagg House Moor and then plunging back down through the infamous Tripsdale bog — definitely enough mud to keep everyone entertained! (TaSH⁠) A superb day for TaSH, with Joe taking a brilliant 2nd place and Ashley picking up an age-category prize, while Paul and Gavin also had cracking races. Best of all, the four of them made up a TaSH men’s team for the first time in quite a while — great to see! 💙💛 A huge thank you to David Sanderson and all the organisers, marshals and volunteers who make this brilliant show race possible. 👏⛰️🏃‍♂️ Esk Valley Fell Club

Wednesday evening saw the latest round of the Esk Valley Summer Fell Race Series with the historic Roseberry Topping Fell Race, a short, sharp classic that has been part of the local fell-running calendar since 1953 — an incredible 73 years. Generations of runners have tackled the lung-busting climb to the summit of one of the North York Moors’ best-known landmarks before throwing themselves back down the fast, technical descent. Paul C was the sole Thirsk & Sowerby Harrier taking on the race this year, while Ashley swapped racing for marshalling duties and collected his valuable 50 series points in the process. Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers were well represented at various parkruns around the country. Olivia Mulligan (21:06) secured 2nd female at Holyrood parkrun in Edinburgh on a scenic course that circles the historic Arthur's Seat. Liam Nolan (18:59) represented the club in the west of Ireland at University of Galway parkrun finishing 6th on a flat and fast route that follows the banks of the river Corrib.

At Rising Sun parkrun, Bronwyn Mayo (23:03) completed a successful run as 10th female at a country park course located north of the Tyne. Marianne Morrice (33:45) completed the Castle Park parkrun in Bishop's Stortford. This Hertfordshire venue provides a lovely course winding through a historic park alongside the river Stort. Hugh Jenyns (35:02) journeyed over to Cumbria to complete the Penrith parkrun. Meanwhile, Katie Wadsworth (36:11) and James Harrison (36:34) traveled to Shropshire near the Welsh Border to take on Henley Wood parkrun in Oswestry. Pete Jackson (31:45) was at Conyngham Hall parkrun, Judith Worrall (45:24) was at Oakwell Hall parkrun in West Yorkshire and Anna Whitham (28:29) was at Redcar parkrun.

At Northallerton parkrun, Julia Harland (27:15), Vanessa Arthur (24:17) and Luke Barletta (31:24) achieved PBs supported by Anna Jones (26:12) and Beth Haggath (32:18). At Fountains Abbey parkrun Charlie Lamb (21:35) and Mike Cropper (21:59) finished well. At Albert parkrun, Middlesbrough, Isaac Myer (18:22) secured 7th place.

At Thorp Perrow parkrun, Sarah Fairhurst (29:33) and Ian Ord (30:55) represented the club. North Yorkshire Water Park parkrun was visited by Nicky Hawkes (29:21) and David Palmer (34:49). At York Community Woodland parkrun, Nigel Morgan (29:00), Gillian Crane (47:06), and Kerry Morgan (47:46) were among the finishers.
At Millfield parkrun, a big club turnout saw PBs for Sean Parle (21:59), Cathy Knott (26:26), Michelle Barratt (30:37), Cathy Cundy (34:20) and Mike Sanders (23:42). Esther Harrison (20:28) was 1st female followed by Adam Harper-Walker (20:00), Richard Grant (20:51), Matt Jones (21:45), Rob Burn (23:59), Geoff Bullock (27:21), Natalie Lyth (29:10), David Lyth (31:16), Paul Adams (33:49), Christine Burn (34:49), Hannah Dalby (35:50), and Ian Codling (58:46).

🌲🏃 TaSH Summer Handicap – Wass Woods 🏃🌲

A fantastic evening in Wass Woods last night for the Thirsk & Sowerby Harriers Summer Handicap, with an impressive 56 members taking part, including 43 who had qualified through our recent time trials. The handicap format gave everyone the chance to race for the line, and it was Alan Longmire who came through to take first place and claim the trophy for the year! 🏆 Keeping it firmly in the family, Carol Longmire produced a brilliant run to finish second, with Duncan Fothergill taking third – especially fitting as Duncan is the club’s dedicated time trial and handicap organiser. A huge thank you to Duncan for putting everything together, and to all our marshals and timekeepers who gave up their evening to keep the runners in check at the start and finish and make sure everything ran smoothly. Another great night of friendly club competition in the woods! 💙💛

A brilliant afternoon at the Langdale End Fell Race today, held as part of the Langdale End Village Show, with a strong Thirsk & Sowerby Harriers contingent of Joe, Ashley, Esther, Paul, Alan, Helen, Sarah and Marc taking on the latest round of the Esk Valley Summer Series. The race packs plenty into its 11km route with around 400 metres of climbing, taking runners over the tracks, trails and open fell of the North York Moors for a proper summer fell-running challenge. A huge thank you to all the marshals and organisers who gave their time and encouragement out on the course, and to everyone involved in putting on such a welcoming village event. Particular thanks to the Village Hall for the excellent tea and scones for just £2 – hard to beat after a fell race! Proceeds from the race will go towards the Village Hall upkeep fund, helping to support this important local facility. And finally, a big thank you to Bev for the fantastic photographs capturing the TaSH runners in action. 💙💛🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️⛰️📸
