This afternoon, Thirsk & Sowerby Harriers Race Directors Lorraine Hiles and Helen Ashworth proudly handed over a cheque for £1,023 to Herriot Hospice Homecare at the Lambert Hospice in Thirsk. The donation was raised from the Hooded Horse Fell Race, part of the Harriers’ Esk Valley Series, which took place in April and saw runners tackle a challenging and scenic fell route through the stunning North Yorkshire countryside. The event brought together the local running community to enjoy the hills, trails and atmosphere, while raising money for an important local cause. Herriot Hospice Homecare provides specialist palliative care and support to people with life-limiting illnesses, helping patients and their families to receive compassionate care in the comfort of their own homes. The Harriers are delighted that the Hooded Horse has helped support such a valuable service within our community. 🏃‍♂️⛰️💚

⛰️ Glen Rosa Horseshoe Fell Race 🏃‍♂️

A fantastic weekend of fell running saw Thirsk & Sowerby Harriers’ Marc Davies take on the stunning Glen Rosa Horseshoe Fell Race.

Set amongst the dramatic scenery of Arran, the race delivered a classic fell challenge with tough climbs, technical descents and breathtaking mountain views. A true test of strength, navigation and endurance across rugged terrain.

Well done Marc for flying the Harriers flag and taking on another great mountain adventure! 💚💛

The latest round of the HDSRL took runners to the stunning Nidderdale last night, with a classic multi-terrain challenge through the Yorkshire countryside. The well marshalled route tested everyone with a mixture of rough tracks, trails, climbs and technical sections, rewarding those who could handle the varied terrain. The weather stayed kind for racing, giving runners a great evening to enjoy the views and the atmosphere. Another fantastic turnout from clubs across the league, with runners pushing hard, supporting each other and enjoying what makes the HDSRL such a great summer series.

The 45th Swaledale Marathon delivered another classic day in the Yorkshire Dales, with runners taking on the stunning but demanding 24-mile fell route through some of Swaledale’s finest scenery. Around 450+ competitors took on the challenge, navigating tough climbs, rough tracks, rocky paths, open fellside and technical sections that make this such a respected event. The weather brought an extra test this year, with strong winds making exposed sections across the tops particularly challenging, adding to the already demanding terrain. A brilliant achievement from everyone who ran, walked, marshalled and supported — a true celebration of fell running and the incredible Swaledale landscape.

A fantastic evening of trail running at the Kirkby Fleetham 10K tonight! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

The race took runners on a beautiful countryside route around the village, heading through fields, farm tracks and woodland trails. A scenic course with a great mix of terrain, offering plenty of variety while still providing a fast and enjoyable challenge.

With warm early summer weather and bright evening sunshine, conditions were ideal for racing, although the exposed sections and trail paths kept everyone working hard. A brilliant local event with a friendly atmosphere, great support and another reminder of why North Yorkshire races are so special. 👏

Christina takes on a 10km at Leeds Running Festival finishing in 1:12:08. This is even more impressive when you realise that she is currently part of our 2026 cohort on Beginner to 5km, and we haven’t got to our 5km yet! Fantastic effort Christina!
