💌 To My Team — My Heart, My Home
There are moments in life that feel like more than victories, they feel like homecoming, like grace, like the quiet hand of someone you love guiding you forward even when they’re no longer beside you. This season, this fourth year of triumph, has been one of those moments — not because of the silver we’ve lifted, but because of the hearts that carried us there.
We did it again! champions of the Galtres League, holders of the Marshall Salver, and with the Topham Trophy resting once more in our hands — three trophies, four years in a row, a legacy no one can take from us. But more than the names etched in the club’s history, it’s the feeling that stays with me, the way we’ve held each other up through every twist of the green, every unexpected bias, every moment when the game seemed lost and yet we found a way, together.
These past years haven’t been easy. As captain, I’ve carried more than just a badge, I’ve carried quiet grief, long nights, and days when I wasn’t sure I could roll on. But you, every single one of you, carried me. You didn’t just show up to play; you showed up to be there, with laughter when I needed it most, with strength when mine had gone, with a kind word or a knowing look that said, we’ve got you. And I’ll never forget that.
The Topham Trophy means more to me than any of you can know — it’s not just a win, it’s Dad. The man who taught me my first roll, my first skip, my first lesson in leadership. He taught me that a team isn’t made of stars, but of hearts that beat as one. And every time I lift that trophy, I feel him beside me — proud, smiling, home.
We’ve played on greens so tricky, so alive, I’m convinced a wizard cast a spell on them, shifting underfoot, bending the rules, teasing us with jacks that danced away at the last moment. But we didn’t just play on them, we danced with them, laughed through them, turned every challenge into a story we’d tell for years. There was Alan, sprinting down the rink like he was training for the Olympics, and Wayne, roaring like a lion after every perfect shot , your fire is our fire. And the banter, the laughter, the quiet moments between ends, that’s where the magic lives, in the in-between, in the love.
To our newcomers — you didn’t just step in, you belonged. From your very first roll, you were one of us, and I already see the legends you’ll become. And to our opposition — your talent, your spirit, your fight, we see you, we respect you, and we thrive to be better because of you.
But no story like this is complete without a quiet little hero. Nina, my gentle girl, our lucky charm, our beating heart — you didn’t just win our hearts, you won over everyone. Even the other team would stop to stroke you for a touch of luck. You sat beside us in the sun and the rain, wagging your tail through every high and low, a silent presence that said, You’re not alone. You are our true hero, and I wouldn’t be who I am — or where I am — without you. You’re not just my shadow. You’re my soul.
And Richard — stepping in when I couldn’t, calm and steady and strong — you showed us exactly what you’re made of. And we already know your next role, it’s written in the stars.
This team — you — are more than players. You’re family. You’re a force of nature. You’re the dream I never thought I’d live. No matter how many games you played, how many ends you bowled, if you showed up, if you believed, if you laughed with us, you were part of this. Every single one of you.
And I love you all
This achievement, It’s legendary. It’s ours. And it’s because of you.
I don’t know what I would have done without you. But I know this — as long as we have each other, the green will always be golden, and my heart will always be full.
With all my love,
Your Galtres Captain 😍😍😍
