Sunday 12th October 2025

OCs 17 - Cobham 18

The guttural roar of a vocal crowd, a mixture of relief and release, broke the tension of an enthralling last five minutes as hosts Cobham held off a determined OC fightback. Cobham led by two tries as OCs again started slowly, the first of these converted, following neat handling out to the left wing. A penalty between touch downs extended the lead to fifteen unanswered points by the interval.

Played on a balmy October afternoon, OCs slowly warmed to the task as the mercury rose, Jack S hitting a hard line from a No 8 pick, then profiting from a kindly ricochet to sn**ch his second score. The visitors will rue their profligacy however, four tries and two conversions left hanging, as knock ons and lack of composure spoilt some excellent approach work. Cobham calmly extended their lead with a second half penalty to pull two scores clear, a decisive margin come the final whistle.

Two red cards saw both teams down to fourteen players mid way through the second half, with the match also reduced to uncontested scrums, Cobham's front row options exhausted. Jacob barged over to give Jack a simple conversion, the one point lead defended furiously by the hosts as OCs battled to steal the victory. Twice Jayden rampaged upfield, with an extraordinary ninety metre run from Jack also hauled down close to the whitewash.

OCs fell agonizingly short despite a gallant attempt to seize the spoils, a failure to start as they ended costing the side for a second consecutive league match. Stay calm, be clinical; clarity of thought in the heat of the moment are messages this team needs to embrace. A terrific contest entertained a sizeable crowd, Cobham delighted to emerge from a game they deservedly led, but one in which OCs failed to capitalise on the possession and territory they enjoyed. Next up, the squad travel to Weybridge Vandals on Sunday 19th October.

OC Colts v Esher B
Sunday 5th October 2025

Won 36-10

An emphatic win for the OC Colts, stole local bragging rights in this friendly match, which gave valuable game time to many squad members who as yet have not had the chance to represent the club in this age group. Several players made an impression, on a day when they were challenged to show coaches what they can bring to the 'league' team.

A hat trick of tries from James Y, powerful and dynamic at No 8, was backed up by break away scores from Kier and Henry G, with Cameron celebrating his return by barging over from short range. Three conversions was a fair return on tricky day for kickers and hookers alike, the stiff breeze making for an entertaining, if occasionally scrappy game.

OCs scrambled well in defence, but will need to improve the 'offensive defence', a lack of line speed a factor. Henry G carried hard in the backline, making substantial inroads, with Bailey, Cameron and Hari prominent up front. James Y was awarded MoM by the opposition, with Kier applauded by the coaches for his tenacious performance.

Well done to all that played, a fun morning, a good result and some definite selection conundrums thrown up. Let's close this summary in awe at the audacious round the back flip Louis attempted; if that had come off, we would never have heard the end of it!

OC Colts v Farnham
Sunday 28th September 2025

A tough defeat in Round Two of the pre Christmas league, saw visitors Farnham hold on for a narrow victory, despite OCs pressing hard to sn**ch a scrappy yet entertaining tie.

Farnham rallied from a slow start to score wide left, the try expertly converted from the touchline. OCs lacked cohesion aside from a strong start, but gradually found a way back into the match, sending Jacob over, Jack's conversion putting the hosts ahead. The team shape grew loose as changes were made in personnel, and with Farnham capitalising, the visitors looked to have moved comfortably ahead with two tries to sn**ch a 19-7 lead.

Finally stung into more urgent response, OCs carried hard into the opposition half, Billy notable in this renaissance. A long range penalty appeared to have secured OCs a further three points, but ultimately the decision not to reward the kick, the ball sailing so high through the posts, the official could not be certain of the score, would come back to haunt the home team. OCs were by now the dominant force, with Jacob surging over for his second try between the uprights, Jack's conversion bringing the score to 14-19.

OC strove for the victory, obligated to chase a try through the disputed penalty miss. With a penalty awarded in front of the posts with the last play of the game, an OC penalty kick would have proved sufficient had the earlier score been given. Instead OCs contrived to bungle the put in to the scrum, Farnham gleefully kicking the ball off the field for a tense victory.

Line speed in defence, calmness under pressure....are work ons as the squad move forward. Unforced errors, and a tendency to spoil excellent approach work through poor decision making and a growing penalty count need to improve. The scramble defence was tenacious however, the game and indeed this league highly competitive. This Sunday we travel to Esher, hitherto unused squad members getting their chance to shine. Perhaps the squad will have Googled the word "Composure" by then...Onwards gents!

OC Colts v Battersea Ironsides
Sunday 21st September 2025

A great start to the season, saw a hard earned 22-7 victory against Battersea Ironsides. Tries from Jacob, Otis, Benji and a last gasp finish from Jayden earned a four try bonus point win to kick start the pre Christmas league campaign. This Sunday, we welcome Farnham to OCs and look forward to another bumper crowd to cheer the lads on. The coaches are loving the bond already apparent in the squad. Well done team, here's to Sunday and the weeks ahead.

Our first 'Coach the Coaches' session last night saw POG offer up a variety of training games, tips, and philosophy, ably assisted by six willing and very able OC Colts.

A genuinely excellent, thought-provoking session, aimed at coaches of all abilities, the emphasis on hand position to allow quick distribution for the players, on keen eyed observation and break out 'praise and polish' for coaches looking to improve those players.

The overarching theme challenged coaches to be alert to the detail of what a specific session is aimed at improving. Let the players try things, be positive..."that was great, how can we make it even better?"

We have a unique resource and asset in POG and will constantly strive to improve our coaching through these fun, dynamic sessions.

Sun 8th December 2024

OC 26 - Cobham 21

A pulsating match on the Cobham 4G pitch, saw OCs hold off a strong second half fightback from the hosts, to win the pre Christmas league in our division.

A chill, blustery grey day, saw floodlights and ferocious defence illuminate a thrilling game. OCs raced into an early lead, Toby crashing over after sustained pressure. Jack's perfectly weighted conversion attempt was betrayed, as the wind failed to play ball, but his penalty swiftly extended the lead. OCs exploited the elements, but in failing to extend the score into the interval, left themselves a battle in the second half.

Jack's second penalty and a richly deserved converted try for Sami took OCs into an eighteen point lead. A quite stunning try saver from Finn in the first half was but one moment amongst numerous excellence in defence, but Cobham found a way clear to bring themselves back into the game, a penalty try awarded for a high tackle as the home wing scurried over. Now with tails up, tail wind behind them and the introduction of a powerful No.8 in Gabriel, Cobham struck twice to turn the scoreboard on its head.

Jack's third penalty set up a frantic finale, scores level at twenty one apiece. Cobham looked the most likely, the tension and commitment palpable. A moment of brilliance seized the spoils, Jack bursting clear from deep, to find Thomas racing up on his shoulder all the way to the line. What a fine advert for Colts rugby this game was, both teams throwing everything into the melee. Congratulations to OCs entire squad, who have trained and played with consistent determination all season, this fine victory testament to their desire and commitment.

OC Festival Part II
Sunday 24th November 2024

A wonderful OC Festival for U7-U9 age groups welcomed clubs from across Surrey. On a blustery, balmy morning, visiting and OC players and parents alike were delighted by the happy vibe across the campus, the slick organisation, terrific rugby and tangible warmth of the event.

Huge thanks and congratulations to Charlie Compson and Greg Mina who delivered such a polished Festival, along with a host of volunteers assisting with parking, guidance, pitch marshalling, refereeing, and of course to our age group coaches for keeping the children so motivated and invested. A genuine triumph - enjoy the photos!

OC U14s – Surrey Values Festival hosted at Esher RFC
Sunday 17th Nov

For the first time this season we had 2 squads in action. Whilst not at full strength in either due to a few injuries and a heavy rugby schedule for one of our school contingents, we went in feeling positive but perhaps positive underdogs, especially knowing some of the teams we were up against competed strongly in the Tier above us in last season’s cup run.

Our Yellows squad featured a couple of boys new to OCs this season and a range of rugby experience. It was a relatively slow and disjointed start to the day against Barnes but the boys hung in there and only lost by a single try. A decent result considering Barnes have only the one playing squad at this age group and that there was a substantial section of the crowd who felt the Yellows’ disallowed try was good. So let’s call that match a draw…!

The 2nd game against Old Reigatians 2 was a tighter affair ending up in a draw but you could see the boys beginning to gel together. There was some great defence and strong attacking play and the game could have been won but for some small errors preventing 3 or 4 good moves resulting in points. We were expecting a bit of a mauling in our last game against London Irish 2 with them having dispatched everyone they’d played against quite comfortably. But despite one of our previous opponents (and a referee!) recommending we get a much bigger front row… the boys dug in and showed great effort and team spirit, losing by a single try again. OC Yellows were definitely channelling England’s Autumn International form with a lot of potential on display but not quite the killer instinct required to record the win.

Our focus is now on building a stronger foundation, stabilising the team by more clearly assigning players to set positions and instilling more confidence in those who are a bit tentative but more than capable. What was great to see was smiling faces across the entire squad. The results genuinely could have gone very differently on another day. Go YellowwwoCS!

Our Blues squad also featured a couple of new boys to OCs and this was going to be their first competitive outing of the season. They had a solid and gutsy start against London Irish 1, winning by a try. Great to see a Youth referee managing the game (he was only 14 years old himself!). Esher 1 were next and another close game, coming out on top by a single try. Last up was Old Reigatians 1, finalists in the Tier 1 cup last season, and who were quite easily about twice the physical size of our squad! Conceding a try in the first 90 seconds didn’t bode well but the boys stuck in there and gradually fought back. We reached the last 3 minutes of a really entertaining game locked at 2-2, then managed to break their defensive line down the blindside, complete a few strong phases and then score to go 3-2 up! (Let’s not mention the slight fumble over the try line the ref didn’t see…). We then secured the ball at kick off, made our way up the pitch again and sensibly kicked the ball out of play after the last scrum.

The quality of play in that last game in particular was outstanding. Hard running, last ditch tackling, commitment in the challenges, quick thinking to unlock space, speed to the breakdown, effective jackaling, decision making under pressure – it had it all. The boys were rightfully buzzing after such a physical match and deserved their plaudits. There is still plenty to work on for both squads of course, but what a positive platform looking ahead to the Waterfall Cup in the New Year.

OC Colts v Guildford
Sunday 17th November 2024

OC 29 - Guildford 7

A well deserved victory for OC Colts, scoring five tries to one against a Guildford side that struggled to find parity in the first half, but proved far more dogged in the second period. A striking hat-trick from Sami A capped a fine team performance, Tyler M racing clear for the opening score, with Jacob B crashing through to grab one for a hard working forward pack.

OCs largely dominated the first half, pulling away into a 22-0 lead. The second half saw both teams score converted tries, Guildford deserving their success in the final action of the match as OCs lost some structure and focus. Stand out moments in a highly watchable game included Sami's long range score, the delight on Jacob's face as he bundled over, a text book full back tackle to thwart a flying Guildford attack from Oliver L, and the bristling aggression of Tyler on the wing. Well played all, OCs remain top of their league with one game to play in early December.

OC Festival
Sunday 11th November 2024

A spectacular morning on Remembrance Sunday, as clubs from across the county converged on Thames Ditton to revel in the OC Under 10 & Under 11 Festival. With some excellent rugby on show, Farmers' Market style stalls, a fabulous Christmas decoration display and over 650 players, a true spirit of fun and friendship was tangible across the campus.

A poignant and beautifully observed silence followed the laying of wreaths by children from both Rugby and Hockey Junior sections, club squads united in respect as a shrill whistle saw the Festival pause in reflection.

Enjoy the photos of a memorable morning.
