DKK Oxfordshire is going to be putting on a demonstration at the Oakley Village Big Weekender on 6 June 2026.

It's going to be a great family day, so everybody should come along. But we'll be putting on a karate demonstration at 12:30pm so you can see what we're all about.

If you're interested in martial arts, getting fit, self defence, having fun, or just building up your confidence, come check us out.

From Sempai Simon Mackown ... Time for a little jog!

As is the case every year, at summer school you'll be running laps of the campsite. One lap is 500m meaning the opening 3 laps of the field is 1,500m. At a very slow running pace (8 mins per km - barely faster than walking) you can complete a lap in 4 mins and the 3 laps in 12 mins. There is plenty of time left to prepare for this (especially those grading) and it'll take you minimal time. Of course some people genuinely can't run because of injury but be honest with yourself.

If you're a non-runner and don't know how to prep you don't need to go crazy - this is a short distance and nobody is expecting an Olympic qualifying pace. I suggest doing intervals 30s running at pace 1 min rest (walking or slow jog) 8-10 times. over time you can shift the balance so you are spending more time running than resting. If you do this twice a week you'll be fine, you might even grow to like it....

DKK Oxfordshire is back in 2026 starting Monday 12th January in Oakley Village Hall.

Classes will be as follows (see website or get in touch):
Mondays 7pm Oakley Village Hall
Thursdays 7:30pm Brill Memorial Hall

This is the year of the Fire Horse. Big things can happen, but patience and persistence are required. I think that means get training!

Come train, get fit, hit and kick things... What's not to love?!

Traditional combat karate, Goju Ryu, for anybody 18 and above.

DKK Oxford practices Goju Ryu karate, a traditional Okinawan martial art focused on the realities of combat and close-quarters fighting.

25/10/2025

No classes next week on Monday 27th and Thursday 30th October due to half term.

Doesn't mean you can't train. Minimum 100 press-ups per day should keep things ticking over nicely.
