Very proud day for Pontardawe’s Fraser Hopkins.

Absolutely over the moon to see him get his first start for the first team, make his second appearance, and score in the 10th minute of a 2-1 win.

This season I’ve had the pleasure of coaching Fraser with the under 16s. He’s been at the club a long time coming through the academy system and fully deserved winning the coaches’ player of the season award.

I’m really looking forward to continuing to work with him as I take up the lead coach role with the under 19s development team next season, although I fear/hope it won’t be too long before he’s playing first team football regularly.

A massive part of why I love Pontardawe and why I’m excited for next season is this proven track record of pushing young players through into the first team. I’m very much looking forward to continuing that production line next season.

All being well in the play-off, we’ll hopefully be doing so in the Cymru South League.

As the sun sets on another brilliant season as a Cymru academy coach

2–1 win vs Carmarthen to finish. Probably deserved more, but got the job done.

From starting the summer with very little in terms of quantity and quality, and a Phase 1 where we couldn’t compete, to building a strong squad and becoming a real force in Phase 2. We know we should have had more points, but that’s a much better place to be than where we started.

Proud of the group. One of the best I’ve worked with. Likeable, coachable, driven, and know how to have a laugh. Character will always take you further than anything else.

Bittersweet to leave, but due to personal circumstances I can’t afford the time and travel next season.

Massive thank you to Johnny and Tom this season. Learned a lot from both of you and really enjoyed working together. Also a thank you to Ángel Rangel for the support through my UEFA A Licence, and to Kev and Andy for bringing me to the club and backing me throughout.

The football news keeps coming. After winning the national title with the U14s, I’m proud to say I’ve now completed my FAW/UEFA A Licence & Elite Youth A Licence.

What an experience. The final contact was class and my first ever face to face coaching conference (last one was online during COVID). Made some friends for life and met people who’ve pushed me to level up and take the next steps in my coaching journey.

Massive thanks to Daf for mentoring me, and to the FAW for delivering a top course. Also want to thank Angel, Gary, Kev, Ian, Chris and Pip for the support across both Pontardawe Town FC and Carmarthen Town AFC in helping me get the practical elements done.

Looking forward to using it now to keep developing my coaching and learning in the seasons ahead.

🏆⚽️ National Champions: U14 FAW Academi 24/25 ⚽️🏆

You can encourage desire. You can challenge players to show grit. But you cannot coach it. That comes from within, and this group showed it in full.

After coming second in the league to a top Pontypridd side, we faced them again in the national semi-final. We didn’t just edge past them. We managed the game with calm, control and conviction. A 1–0 win that felt bigger than the scoreline.

Then came the final. 1–0 down to the powerhouse that is TNS with minutes to go. The boys didn’t panic. They believed. They equalised.

And then… penalties. Thirty of them. Every time we thought it was done, our goalkeeper and the footballing gods made sure we lived on. Eventually, a brilliant save sparked absolute pandemonium.

This wasn’t about who had the best facilities or the biggest name. It was about mentality. It was about belief. And it was about a team of lads who refused to lose.

Without doubt, the best day of my coaching career so far. Thank you to the players for the privilege of being part of it.

After a good start to the academy, we have already outgrown our temporary home 🫣

We will be moving to Monday Nights at Ysgol Greenhill School on the 12th of September. This is massive news for us as it will give me a much bigger space to grow our numbers. Plus Monday is a much better night to train on.

Get down for an individual development focus towards footballing excellence and give your son or daughter the best opportunity to maximise their abilities

Amazing session tonight. The clear speed of play and thinking was so enjoyable to watch.

Just a heads up. The Penally sessions are almost full. I won’t be taking more than 8 per session in that hall. But I have agreed with Greenhill to have the hall for the Monday nights. So that session will start very soon.

I will only be leaving spaces for paid up players. First come first serve.

Thank you everyone for your support. I’m ecstatic today with the development we all made. Especially my little girl the pressing monster 😂

Thank you everyone who attended tonight for the grand opening of the academy.

From next week I will be offering two sessions and splitting the groups suitably for each.

I will be emailing over the weekend inviting you each to the correct group.
