Fat won't make you fat..... It will if you eat too much of it. Fats play a very important part in our diet, providing energy, insulation, and important vitamins and minerals like A and D and Omega 3 fatty acids found in oily fish, important for heart health. Saturated and trans fats should be limited/avoided. Examples of products are cakes, biscuits, pastries, fatty meat products, takeaways, and can contribute to raising blood cholesterol levels and increasing risk of heart disease.
Unsaturated and Omega 3 fats/Oils are considered beneficial for our health and can help lower blood cholesterol. Examples are seeds/grains, nuts, olive oil, avocado, oily fish. However fat contains the most calories out of the other macronutrients at 9kcal per gram, so there needs to be portion caution, even with the good unsaturated fats in the diet, especially relating to weight management and calorie deficit targets. Nut butters and nuts are 2 prime examples of a beneficial fat that can be easily over eaten and picked at, clocking up the calories if you don't rein the portion size in! Try replacing some saturated for unsaturated fats in your diet..... But watch those portion sizes!
