Looking for a sport where you can make amazing friends, build confidence, stay active, and have loads of fun?

Our Girls teams are recruiting now for the 2026/27 season, with teams from Under 11s right through to Under 18s, and we'd love to welcome you!

🔥 Pre-season kicks off on FRIDAY 14TH AUGUST and is the perfect time to come along, give rugby a try and see what it's all about. No experience? No problem. Whether you've never picked up a rugby ball or you've played for years, there's a place for you.

The waves are rolling into The Old Showground as we host TWO teams from Harrogate Rugby on Saturday 15th August for pre-season friendlies!

The family BBQ originally scheduled for 8th August will now be run in conjunction with our Surfer Themed Social, creating one huge day for the whole club to enjoy.

✍️ CONFIRMED | STOKES JOINS THE PORT

We’re delighted to announce the signing of Harry Stokes ahead of the 2026/27 season!

Joining from Telford Hornets RFC, Harry arrives at The Old Showground as an exciting addition to the forward pack. A high-energy, high work rate back-row forward, he brings a fiercely competitive edge and the versatility to make an impact across multiple positions.

Harry has been playing rugby since the age of eight, progressing through school rugby before representing Telford Hornets, Shropshire, and North Midlands. His representative honours include Shropshire Under 16s, Under 17s, Under 18s, and the Shropshire Senior Men's side, as well as selection for North Midlands Under 18s.

Alongside his rugby union career, Harry has also excelled in rugby league with Telford Raiders, helping the club win back-to-back Midlands Premier titles and making two appearances in the Betfred Challenge Cup, even getting his name on the scoresheet in one of those fixtures.

Still young and hungry to develop, Harry's relentless work ethic and competitive mindset make him a fantastic addition to the squad. We're excited to welcome him to Newport and can't wait to see what he brings in maroon and white.

What an incredible achievement! 🚴‍♂️💪🏼

Everyone at Newport Salop RUFC would like to congratulate Tim Bright on completing his extraordinary 2,004 mile cycle around the British Isles on a Raleigh Chopper in support of Cancer Research UK.

After being diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia in 2016, Tim set himself this challenge to mark ten years since his diagnosis. His journey has been far more than a cycling challenge, it’s a celebration of life and a huge testament to resilience.

🚭 Temporary No Smoking Restrictions at The Old Showground

Following the continued spell of exceptionally dry weather, and with the Environment Agency confirming that Shropshire is now officially in drought, we have introduced a temporary strict no smoking policy across The Old Showground with immediate effect.

Recent weeks have seen a significant increase in wildfires across the region, with our emergency services working tirelessly to respond.

We all have a responsibility to minimise the risk, and these temporary measures are designed to help keep our club, our visitors and our surrounding community safe.

🚫 Smoking is NOT permitted on:
• Any grassed area
• The clubhouse decking
• The gravelled area in front of the decking

✅ Smoking is ONLY permitted in the following designated areas:
• The hardstanding carpark (Forton Road side of the clubhouse only)
• On the paved area at the front entrance to the clubhouse

If you do smoke, please ensure all ci******es, ci**rs and other smoking materials are fully extinguished and disposed of responsibly.

These temporary restrictions will remain in place until at least 1st September 2026, when the situation will be reviewed and an update provided.

Thank you for your understanding, cooperation and support in helping us protect The Old Showground and the surrounding area during these challenging conditions.

💙 Making a Difference Together 💙

A huge thank you to everyone who supported the Shropshire Prostate Support Group at our British Elite Sevens tournament.

Thanks to your incredible generosity, an amazing £961 was raised through beer sales and donations on the day in addition to a very generous donation from British Elite Sevens! 🍻👏

The team at Shropshire Prostate Support Group have expressed how grateful they are to us for supporting them throughout the event. In return, we'd like to say a massive THANK YOU to them for volunteering their time and for the fantastic work they do across our community.

Every pound raised will help fund future PSA testing events, subsidising the cost for every man tested. The money also helps cover the cost of specialist nurses, laboratory testing, and the essential equipment and materials needed to carry out these potentially life-saving tests.

Early detection saves lives, and together we've helped make that possible for even more people.

Thank you once again to everyone who bought a drink, made a donation, or stopped for a chat. Your support will have a genuine and lasting impact. 💙

It is now that time of year to buy or renew your annual membership to Newport (Salop) Rugby Club. Membership runs from 1st July 2026 to 31st June 2027. The management team have increased the annual membership slightly this season to £130 and £90 for concessions (over 65yrs). Instructions attached of how you can buy or renew your membership.

Your membership will include:

Free Entry to all home games
Membership card providing 10% discount of purchases over the bar
Eligibility for International Tickets Ballot (England Home Games)
Invite to Club Lunches and Events
Discount on Club Hire for special occasions
Full Voting rights at the AGM
Entry into the £100 monthly club draw (winnings added to membership/bar card)

As I am sure you are well aware your membership to the club is a very important contribution to club funds that are greatly appreciated.

✍️ BOUGHEY RETURNS TO THE PORT

We're delighted to announce the return of George Boughey to The Old Showground for the 2026/27 season!

George rejoins the club after two outstanding seasons with Macclesfield RFC in National League 2, where he tested himself week in, week out against some of the strongest opposition in Level 4 rugby. His return represents a major addition to Newport's forward pack and is one we're incredibly excited about.

George is no stranger to The Old Showground, having previously represented Newport before making the move to Macclesfield in 2024. His rugby journey has seen him develop into a versatile and highly effective forward, capable of playing anywhere across the back five, whether in the second row or back row.

There's also a familiar connection behind the signing. During his junior rugby at Eccleshall, George was coached by Newport's now Director of Rugby, Steve Dolphin, with the pair enjoying league winning success together.

Since then, George has continued to grow as a player, and his experience competing in the National Leagues will bring invaluable quality, physicality, and leadership to the squad.

We're thrilled to welcome George back to the club and can't wait to see him pulling on the maroon and white once again.
