Teignmouth Swimming Club

Teignmouth Swimming Club Local, friendly and very affordable swimming club which offers swimming lessons by qualified teachers. The club is also has coaches for the training sessions.

Our learn to swim groups are run ideally with a ratio of 4 swimmers to 1 teacher and for the stages a maximum of 8 children to 1 teacher. All our teachers are volunteers and are trained as ASA Level 1 or Level 2 teachers. Our club aims to offer children a fun learn to swim experience in a relaxed atmosphere. We are very aware that a child's first experience in a pool will shape their future fears and concerns about water and so we aim to make the lessons fun whilst encouraging each child to reach their full potential.

We are looking forward to starting back at swimming with our seniors this evening (Monday) 7:30-8:30 and then our juniors tomorrow (Tuesday) usual lesson times of 6:00 or 6:30 start.

Dear Parents,
We hope you are all enjoying your holidays and keeping up with the swimming.
We are writing to let you know about an upcoming change to the Friday swimming lessons.
Starting in September lessons will move from Friday to Tuesday (Monday lesson remain the same) We made this positive move for the children due to attendance and the amount of conflicting events on Fridays for families.
We hope that moving to Tuesdays means your child will be less tired than they are at the end of the school week. We also expect this new day will lead to better overall attendance and improved progress through the stages. If you have any questions please let us know.

The exact start date for the Tuesday lessons will be 8th September.
The time of the classes will remain the same: Widths 6:00.-6:30 and lengths 6:30 to 7:00pm

A reminder that tonight is water safety night. Please can you come with shorts and T-shirt to swim in or alternatively short cotton pj’s. (Not Mary’s Group)
Please be aware that next Friday 17th Dawlish is essentially closed off from 5pm to 10pm due to a national cycle event. I am still awaiting clarification of the diversions, however, it is looking unlikely we will be able to access the leisure centre easily.

A national cycling event is being held in Dawlish on Friday 17th July, our last evening of the season. Last years race caused major traffic chaos and so I am trying to get further information on the road closures and diversions.
If anyone has any detailed information on this, please message me.

Notice re end of term and term dates.
Next Friday the children’s lessons will be focusing on water safety and survival, ready for the summer holidays.
Please could the children bring some shorts and t-shirt or light pjs to swim in. (Not Mary’s group)
The last swimming will be on Friday 17th July and Monday 20th July. We will return after the summer break on Friday 4th and Monday 7th September.

Good news from last nights trip to Dawlish Leisure Centre, Elm Grove Road was open and the leisure centre was fairly easy to access. I think there will still be some short delays on Friday due to the time we start and also the introduction of temporary traffic lights.

We start back to swimming next week. Please be aware there are road closures in Dawlish and you cannot get to the leisure centre directly from Teignmouth. There are several long diversions in place, please leave additional travel time to make it to the lessons on time.

A reminder that the club will break for the Easter Holidays on Friday 3rd April through to Friday 17th April.
Friday 27th and Monday 30th will be the last sessions this term.
Monday swimmers will be doing their time trials on the 30th March.
Swimming will be back on Monday 20th and Friday 24th April.

Latest from our WhatsApp community page from the clubs head coach: It is important that all club members, from non-swimmers to the senior group, wear tight fitting costumes and a swim hat for those with long hair. Baggy costumes/sunsuits/board shorts create a lot of drag, which makes it very difficult for swimmers to maintain a horizontal body position. Long hair, even in a pony tail, creates unnecessary distractions. Following this advice will help your child to improve their swimming, and make the volunteer teachers’ job a little bit easier.
