BSTFC 4-3 Newton Town

An incredible game of attacking football with both teams scrapping to maintain their good records this season. Both playing high lines with plenty of runs around the defences.

BSTFC started really well and we could have easily found ourselves in front were it not for some outstanding goalkeeping. Newton scored a goal from their first attack and BSTFC did remarkably well to maintain composure (the team is growing in maturity and belief). Kacey found Harry H with a through ball and Harry rounded the keeper to equalise. BSTFC maintained the constant attacking threat and grabbed another two goals in the final ten minutes of the half. The goal/move of the day was Jude picking the ball up from outside our box and switching the ball to Harry H. Harry H played an excellent early ball into Harry C's path in the centre of the goal. Harry C, our lethal fox in the box did his usual. The pair teamed up again to round off an almost perfect half for Harry H with two assists and a goal. 3-1 at halftime.

BSTFC started brightly in the second half and Hayden who had 15 minutes up front found himself blasting over from three yards out. He did incredibly well to carry on and finished a much harder effort from the edge of the box following a great pass from Josh. 4-1. Newton Town kept belief and set up a nail biting last ten with waves of attacks and two well taken goals. BSTFC held on for the victory. 4-3.

I am extremely proud of the team this year and this was our last home game of the league season. 8 home games, 6 wins and 2 draws. Our own invincible mini-fortress. It really doesn't matter if we complete the job of winning the league as they have progressed so much as a team and the football they are playing is improving week-on-week. Every member of the BSTFC team played their part in today's win. Maisie was phenomenal and deserved winner of the POTM. Ben, Josh, Cade, Dexter, Kacey (c), Sam, Jude, Hayden, Harry C and Harry H all had a brilliant game and their confidence is growing. Rhia provided amazing support with her team from the side lines.

Two games this weekend.

Saturday was our first try at 11-a-side vs Dawlish. It was a very good first effort. Kacey was on fire in the second half and well deserved POTM. Maisie made it 2 from 2 penalty saves. Tyler and Hayden grabbed goals.

Dawlish 5 - 3 BSTFC

Sunday was our PYL fixture vs Brixham. BSTFC started strong and there was some lovely football being played. The Brixham keeper was outstanding. Harry H made a great run to set up Harry C for the first. The second was from a Harry H corner with Harry C heading home. The third was Hayden assisting Harry H. The fourth an unfortunate own goal and the fifth to round off Harry C's hat-trick was again from a corner, but this time Hayden delivering the cross.

Brixham 2 - 5 BSTFC

Everyone in blue and black played well, but Cade, Hayden and Maisie all had exceptional games. Cade was regularly overloaded but jockeyed like a pro and made some useful passes. Maisie seemed uber confident with her feet and was delivering passes to the forward three like Ederson. Hayden kept his head up and played some lovely passes to break the back line.

WATCOMBE 2 - 1 BSTFC

Historically, lovely sunshine is not the preferred playing conditions for this group. Unfortunately, that proved to be the case today and BSTFC were a little slow, static in forward positions and disjointed as a group. Several players had good games or played really well in parts, but there was an emotionally charged restlessness today and the normal flowing passing was not at its best.

Teams can't play well every week and this just wasn't our game from start to finish (as a team).

Watcombe played well and were clinical with their chances. They took the lead following a defensive line mistake leaving a player onside and unmarked in the middle to finish neatly into the bottom corner. BSTFC edged back into the game after striking both post and crossbar from corner kicks. Harry H ran down the wing and played the ball back to Kacey who crossed the ball first time into the penalty area where Hayden was denied by the keeper, but Harry C followed in to score a scrappy 'proper' strikers goal.

Watcombe retook the lead after a great pacey run down the wing and an incredible shot from the side of the box.

BSTFC pushed for an equaliser and played a little better in the second half. Chances for Kacey, Hayden, Harry H and Sam all denied by the keeper or misplaced.

Mason was our POTM as he adjusted his game well in the second half and displayed the correct attitude to never give up. Maisie and Kacey also have special mentions for their mentality throughout.

Hopefully we'll be back to our standard brand of football next week.

BSTFC 3-2 Paignton Villa

The magnificent 9. BSTFC were bare bones after illness struck multiple members of the team. Unusual weather for a BSTFC match as it was bright and warm with zero precipitation.

In the first half, the defensive line for BSTFC was incredible. Ben was the conductor with Rhia and Josh both strong in the tackle. They moved in formation with military precision for most of the half. Josh was phenomenal winning nearly all of his 50/50's and playing the ball with a calmness that has recently entered his game. Josh's first half performance was enough to win him the POTM award.

Attacking wise, BSTFC had multiple chances early on where on occasion a simple pass would lead to a tap-in. Decision making still letting us down on occasion. The goal was eventually breached following a lovely flicked header by Harry C into Harry H's path, with Harry H finishing neatly. BSTFC failed to capitalise on the extensive pressure and gifted Paignton a goal after failing to clear a loose ball in the penalty box between two of our players. Minutes later BSTFC conceded a penalty from a slide tackle at the edge of the box. Maisie saved with swagger and it was 1-1 at halftime.

In the second half Sam and Kacey started running the show in midfield. Sam disrupting Paignton's attacks and Kacey providing the lethal penetrative passes in the final third. The passing of the attacking 3 was much improved in the 2nd half with Harry H regularly getting behind the opposition and looking up to cross the ball. Harry H took a quick throw to find Kacey after a neat run behind the defence. She controlled the ball and crossed it to the back post leaving Hayden with a simple header from less than a yard out. Paignton fought back and scored a 2nd following a spinning ball in the BSTFC defence. Seconds later Kacey picked up the ball in midfield, drove forward and played a through ball to Hayden for what ended up the winning goal.

An epic display from the 9 fit players of BSTFC.

BSTFC 1 - 1 WBB

WBB were really aggressive off the ball and were winning the majority of the second balls and 50/50 challenges throughout this game. WBB also defended exceptionally well around the box closing down countless BSTFC shots. BSTFC were not playing very well in the first half and were lucky to only be down 0-1, mostly thanks to a masterclass from Maisie. She played the sweeper keeper role to counteract the long balls over the top almost perfectly (apart from one occasion, which was well taken).

In the second half BSTFC started playing better football and were unlucky not to get a penalty when Harry H drove into the box. However, BSTFC did get a penalty later on after Harry H again was fouled. Harry H finished well. Late on into the game BSTFC continued to mount pressure and made a couple of errors in decision making whilst in the final third which would have resulted in good clear opportunities. WBB also had a great long shot that Maisie saved to her right-hand side fully stretched. A draw was a fair result and it is testament that the team remained tough to beat on an uncharacteristic 'off' day. Maisie was exceptional though and a worthy POTM.

BSTFC 2 v 1 KINGSKERSWELL

What a brilliant game. Kingskerswell FC were really up for a battle and played some excellent football controlling a lot of the possession early on. BSTFC fashioned a few chances in the first half, mainly through Harry H, who had back-to-back near perfect games. Harry H could have had a collection of assists in the first half. On one occasion his driven cross following excellent play by Cade led to the ball striking the crossbar. On another occasion he fed the run of Harry C with an early cross, Harry C's bottom corner destined shot was saved by the keeper. Kacey also showed her class with an excellent pass leading to a one-on-one. The Kingskerswell keeper was a machine, stopping everything. At around the 25 minute mark, Rhia played a lovely through ball to Harry C who demonstrated real strength against the defender and passed to Jude who showed some silky skills and finished for his first goal of the season.

1-0 at half-time.

Kingskerswell continued high pressure in the second half and managed to pull back an equaliser following some good football on the counter around 5 minutes following the restart. The game looked destined for a stalemate as both teams probed and were thwarted by classy defences. Near to the end of the game, Maisie played a long goal kick which was flicked on by Rhia and expertly controlled by Harry H. Harry still had a lot to do and dribbled past the defender and placed his effort to win the match.

Our POTM was nominated by coach Alex. Ben who always gives his all, was inspirational in this game. He had a real battle against a tough centre forward and was imperious in his unwillingness to let the opposition win any duels.

BSTFC 5 - 3 WATCOMBE WANDERERS

Great football being played by both teams and some really good team goals on display. Harry H and Josh both had exceptional games and share the ⭐️ POTM award. It is testament to how well Josh played that he managed to take the honours from Harry H who himself had a hat-trick and two assists during the game. Josh was phenomenal. The whole team did very well as a unit and you can now see that they are looking for better options collectively on the pitch. Every member of the team contributed to the result today; Maisie, Josh, Mason, Rhia, Kacey, Jude, Harry H, Hayden, Harry C, Sam and Dexter.

Harry C opened the scoring from a Harry H corner, heading in at the near post.
Harry H then scored a hat-trick of goals, once assisted by a Rhia clearance, a switched cross from Hayden and then the last by the pass of the game from Harry C. All finished well. Harry H looked to pass more frequently in this game and it really made the whole team much better.
Harry C ended the scoring for the day finishing a simple tap-in from excellent wing-play from Harry H. The goal of the game as it was simple football played to perfection.

Watcombe also scored an amazing team goal featuring a defence splitting reverse through ball.

BSTFC keeping the fine league run going and maintaining pressure on the chasing pack. All other games were postponed today.

The quarter final of the cup saw BSTFC face division 1 side Chudleigh. Chudleigh started strongly and pinned the BSTFC defence back. BSTFC defenders played amazingly well for the first half, keeping a compact line and nullifying the relentless wave of attacks. Dexter intercepted a pass and played a long diagonal to Hayden on the wing. Hayden cool under pressure finished neatly through the keeper's legs. BSTFC could have made it 0-2 shortly afterwards with Hayden crossing the ball and Harry C dummying on the penalty spot to leave an open chance for Harry H. At half-time the game was 1-1 after Chudleigh pulled a goal back following an error. The difference in league places became more apparent in the second half as Chudleigh played the ball with calmness and BSTFC failed to reciprocate any sustained pressure. Final score 6-1.

Player of the match Dexter. He was full of energy and drive, but importantly his defensive positioning was great. He blocked many opposition chances where they had an overload in our penalty box.

BSTFC 2 -2 Barton Athletic

There was very little to separate the sides in this top of the table clash. BSTFC struck first after an excellent team move. Hayden received the ball wide and made the excellent football decision to recycle the ball to Ben. Ben playing like a modern day Maldini, always unflustered kept things simple with a forward pass. Kacey used her technical prowess and quick feet to create some space and play a wonderful defence-splitting ball into Harry C who finished with a low drive past the keeper. BSTFC continued with early dominance and could have added another couple of goals in the first ten minutes with Rhia, Hayden and Harry H all going close. At the very end of the half, Barton got themselves back into the tie, capitalising on a mistake in midfield to drive into the box and finish uncontested. 1-1 halftime.

In the second half BSTFC welcomed back our prodigal son, Jay and a debut for Jude. Jude went very close after some excellent forward pressure led to an opportunity at the edge of the box with the keeper off of his line. Unfortunately drifting wide. Jay immediately got into the action and finished with excellence from a through ball by Sam for his first assist of the season. Jay had the crowd gasping after an excellent interchange with Hayden which led to a side-footed volley from the edge of the box. Barton did very well to hang on and again worked back into the game. Very late into the game they again pounced on a minor mistake in midfield and were able to level the game. Barton finished strongly and a draw was a fair result.

Star player was Ben (again). He was the best player on the pitch today winning multiple long balls, calm in building out from the back and excellent in his recovery runs.
