CSC Members Go the Extra Mile........

We love hearing about the challenges and achievements of our CSC members – and this month we have two fantastic stories to share.

Linda & Roy Closing in on MAD1000

Toddington-based members Linda & Roy Carey are on the verge of completing an incredible milestone this month as they reach the end of the MAD1000 Challenge. The challenge is simple to explain, but rather harder to achieve: complete a dedicated walk or run of at least one mile, every single day for 1,000 consecutive days! With only a handful of days remaining, the finish line is now firmly in sight. A fantastic achievement and a real demonstration of commitment and determination – congratulations to you both!

Of course, there is one question… having made it this far, do you stop at 1,000 or keep going until the end of the year and complete MAD 2026 and MAD3 (3 years) as well?

From Couch to 5K… to the London Marathon!

Last year, Vicky Armitage joined CSC’s Spring Couch to 5K programme, successfully graduating the course by running the Houghton Hall 5K Parkrun. But Vicky certainly hasn’t stopped there. She has continued running and is now taking on an even bigger challenge – training for the 2027 London Marathon! Going from non-runner to preparing for a marathon is an amazing journey, and everyone at CSC is delighted to have played a small part in helping Vicky get started. We’ll be cheering her on as the training miles build towards marathon day.

Vicky is also using the challenge to raise money for Sense, a charity supporting people with complex disabilities. If you’d like to support Vicky and her marathon challenge, please visit her fundraising page for more information or to make a donation.

Well done Linda, Roy and Vicky – some brilliant achievements and plenty of miles between you!

September Yoga Classes
September brings that familiar feeling of change. Summer begins to fade, routines return and the pace of everyday life starts to pick up again. It’s a great time to make a little space for yourself, reconnect with your body and find some calm on the mat.

This month we’ll focus on building core strength, creating a stable foundation that supports balance, posture and everyday movement. Later in the month, as the seasons begin to shift, we’ll turn our attention to transitions, slowing down and exploring not just the poses themselves, but how we move between them.

Whether you’re returning after a summer break, joining us for the first time or rarely miss a Monday, everyone is welcome. Come along this September to move, breathe, strengthen and unwind, leaving class feeling a little more balanced and ready for the week ahead.

The class focus for September will be: Core Strength & Transitions.

Mon 7th September, 7pm-8pm
We begin September by focusing on core strength. Yoga works far beyond the surface abdominal muscles, helping to strengthen the deeper muscles that support the spine, hips and shoulders. A stronger core can improve posture, support balance and help reduce everyday strain through more stable, controlled movement.

Book your place: https://chalgravesportsclub.co.uk/events/yoga-class-mon-07-sep-2026/

Mon 14th September, 7pm-8pm
This week we continue building core strength, with a little more focus on control, stability and confidence in our poses. By engaging the deeper supporting muscles, we can improve balance, protect the spine and create a stronger foundation for both yoga practice and everyday movement.

Book your place: https://chalgravesportsclub.co.uk/events/yoga-class-mon-14-sep-2026/

Mon 28th September, 7pm-8pm
As summer gives way to autumn, we slow things down and focus on the spaces between poses. Following the breath, subtle shifts of weight and changes in balance, we’ll explore smoother, more mindful transitions. A calming practice designed to use energy efficiently and leave you feeling settled and relaxed.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our classes, but if you have any questions or comments in the meantime, please feel free to get in touch or visit the Yoga Section of our website for further information.

Co****le at the Chalgrave Games

Ever wondered how to play co****le, want to try your hand at co****le, or perhaps you have no idea what co****le even is? If any of these apply to you, why not come along to the Chalgrave Games and Summer Fete on 18 July 2026 where CSC will have a couple of co****le boards setup for you to play on. Either challenge a friend/family member in a head-to-head game or go solo and throw to score points and win a prize for the highest score on the day.

Co****le started as a backyard game in the States and has seen phenomenal growth over recent years, and it is now claimed to be the most played sport in America with elite players competing in professional leagues with regular TV coverage. Its appeal is starting to spread around the world and it has become a popular activity for people to take part in, either competitively or as a social game that can be played in gardens, parks, village halls, weddings, parties and more. It can be extremely addictive, is easy to play, but it can be hard to really master game.

Players or teams take turns throwing fabric bean bags (originally corn filled) at an inclined board with a hole in its far end. The goal of the game is to score points by either landing a bag on the board (one point) or putting a bag through the hole (three points). Co****le is a game that is accessible to people of all ages and abilities. It’s designed to be fun and engaging for everyone, regardless of their physical or mental capabilities. Even those with impaired movement can enjoy the game, and the throwing distance (usually 27 feet / 8.23m) can be adjusted to accommodate different players.

If we have piqued your interest, why not come along to the Chalgrave Games and Summer Fete, held at Chalgrave Memorial Hall on 18 July 2026, to give it a try. The CSC team will be there with the co****le from 12:30 onwards and will be happy to explain how it works and give you some pointers if you have not played before. As well as co****le there will be lots of other family activities including a dog show, children’s train rides, water games, tug o’ war, reiki, face painting, tombola, various stalls, BBQ, beer tent, tea room and more…..

For a video explaining more about the sport, see Co****le 101: The ‘Hole’ Story of a Backyard Game That’s Now a Professional Sport https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCr5AXIgnWQ or to see how the professionals do it, take a look at some of these seriously good co****le skills https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mL3172cBe_M

CSC Go Kart Grand Prix Returns for 2026

Get ready for another adrenaline-fuelled evening of high-speed fun as the CSC Go Kart Grand Prix returns on Friday evening 10th July 2026.

After the huge success of our previous events in 2024 and 2025, we’re excited to bring the racing action back once again, and everyone is welcome. You don’t need to be a CSC member to take part, so feel free to invite friends, family, teammates, and fellow speed enthusiasts along for the ride.

The venue is Formula Fast in Milton Keynes where drivers will race around an indoor circuit featuring powerful 200cc petrol karts capable of speeds of up to 40mph. We’ll have exclusive use of the track for our very own CSC Grand Prix event, including a combined practice and qualifying session before the main race gets underway.

https://formulafast.co.uk/

And of course, there’s more than just pride at stake… the top three drivers will receive a place on the podium during our post-race presentation ceremony, so bring your competitive spirit (and maybe your best overtaking skills too!). For those not racing, there will be a spectator area along with a bar serving food and drinks, perfect for cheering on the drivers from the sidelines. The expected cost to participate is around £50 per person (no charge for spectators)

This promises to be another fantastic club social evening, so if you’re interested in taking part BOOK NOW (contact us on [email protected]) as places are limited and likely to fill quickly.
