Tavistock Clay Pigeon Club is a Members' run Club shooting in English Sporting format. Our Ground has 5-6 Stands of fully automated traps hence 50-60 targets that change from shoot to shoot giving a balanced variety of difficulty to suit beginners up to experts. Hot drinks are available throughout the Shoot and locally sourced meats are used in our hot food - you have no reason to leave hungry! We

have a brief stoppage mid-Shoot when, once the traps are rendered safe, all able hands are asked to help collect some missed clay pick-ups. These we re-use on forgiving traps to help keep the Fees you pay low so don't be shy or lazy and please muck-in! We are known as a very friendly Club so guests are welcome:- all will be signed in by, and shoot with, a Member. We are however very safety conscious so if you want to experiment with black powder or multi-shot shotguns sorry but we are not the Club for you, we accept Over and Unders or Semi-Auto shotguns (duly flagged) with a maximum of two cartridges per pair of targets. Our shoots are held on alternate Sundays from 10:00 - 13:00. Shoot Dates for 2018

The club held its final shoot on the 12th December. After forty years we now have nowhere to shoot as the ground has new owners. The site will be cleared by the end of February.

The Final Trophy shoot had a really good turn out as we included a few guests. As well as the club competition we included a high gun prize in case one of the guests had a good day. However, top club member Stuart Honey won just about everything, the 410, club competition and was high gun. With a score of 43 he was several points away from everyone else, really well done. Pat Wood won the veterans, with Maggs and Becky having a shoot off, and Maggs taking 1st place in the ladies. We only had one junior, Amelia, who had not shot before but she just got better and better, judging from the smile on her face she will be doing it again soon.

High Gun - Stuart Honey
TCPC trophy - 1st Stuart Honey
2nd Tony Batey
3rd Matt Neill
Veteran - Pat Wood
Ladies - Maggs Saunders
410 - Stuart Honey
Junior - Amelia Ellul

This is the final posting for the club and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members for their support over the years. The club has always been about having fun shooting, it really has had such a good atmosphere at every shoot, several of us will miss it so much. The owners of the land for forty years, Dave Hicks and before him his father, have been so supportive of the club, we could not have made it this far without them. A final thank you to them for helping make this club the great success it was.

Chairman- Mike Lunney

The Club held its annual competition on Sunday, The Dave Hicks Trophy. Dave owns the land the club shoots on and he has been very supportive over the years. His father first allowed clay shooters on the land over fifty years ago. Dave gave the club the silver trophy five years ago for this very special event. In recognition of his support for the club Dave was presented with an engraved glass and bottle of whisky

We had perfect weather and a good turn out with Pens and Moor of Tavistock supplying the engraved trophies.

The main Trophy event was 60 clays shot over 6 stands. Matt had put on some interesting stands, including a rabbit which disappeared behind some cut logs. Now you see it, now you don't. For the first time this year the club also held a competition for 410 guns as there has been a lot of interest in these recently.

Dave Hicks Trophy

Winner - Paul Wallwork
2nd place - Neil Coley
3rd place - Norman Young
highest veteran - Norman Young
best lady gun - Karen
Junior winner - Archie Coster

410 Competition - Marcus Rogers
410 Junior winner - Finlay Richardson

We also gave out some special awards. As a members club, run by the members, we felt it important to recognise the contribution of certain members and perhaps not the ones that normally get recognised.

The first of these Special Awards was to Colin Dix. Colin is a regular, always keen to help and ready with a laugh, smile and quick reply to any of the sarcasm that Matt can sometimes dish out when things go a bit wrong. A better atmosphere at the club when Colin turns up.

The second Special Award was for our Rising Star, Findlay Richardson, our youngest member at nine years old. Fin joined the club earlier this year and with help from his dad, Rob, he has progressed nicely and is very competent and keen shot. He has really taken to shooting and what the club has to offer. He tried a 410 at the clubs Try Gun day run with the Gun Room Ivybridge and was given his own gun a few weeks later. The club has few young members and it so nice to see someone with such enthusiasm doing so well.

Hope everyone had a good day and thanks to those who helped in putting on the event.

Great shooting today at the club.

Great shooting today at the club.

At our next club shoot, 5th May, the club is hosting a try a gun day with the Gun Room Ivybridge. They will be bringing a number of used and less expensive makes of new guns to try.
Start time in our usual 10am. We will carry on a bit later than usual so any guests can do the club shoot after looking at what the gun room has ion offer.
A great opportunity to try from a range of guns which of course can be purchased on the day.

We had a really good ground improvement day Saturday 16th March. After his safety brief last shoot Matt asked for some helpers, expecting only few to turn up. However we had 13 helpers, Matt, Les, Andrew, Stewart, John P. Lawrence, Nick, Lew, John, Rob, Dick Paul and Mike so we got a lot done. New mini tower fitted with the trap off the shed roof, a big improvement. We hired a mini digger and filled a skip with the empty cartridge cases. In future we will keep the cases dry so they can be recycled. Six rail sleepers were made into a little bridge allowing the quad to pull traps to the hedge on the left of the ground giving many new targets. Electronics back from repair were tested. Lunch of sausage bacon and egg seemed to go down well. Thanks so much to everyone who turned up to help, nice to see some of the new members joining the team of helpers.

Busy day yesterday, our biggest turnout for some time. Late start as some of the electronics were damp and we had to revert to cables on a few traps.
We had already been contacted by Gary asking to bring 5 non shooting friends. Matt put on a special stand for them to start on. Just as well as it turned out, others brought non shooting guests without telling us. Matt was his usual accommodating self and sorted everything. Hope everyone had a good day.A good layout with several positive comments made. Chef was stressing doing 33 burgers, the most we have sold.

Please can anyone wishing to bring a non shooting guest get in touch with us first so we can plan how to keep things good for them and the other shooters.
