Hey Tavistock and surrounding areas 👋🏼

Did you know we’re here? Phoenix is a small fitness studio offering multiple Spin (and other) classes a week right by The Meadows, just off Pixon Lane.

We take great pride in the classes we run; we are fully qualified and really put our hearts into making sure every session we run is well put together. We never just ‘throw a class together’, especially when it comes to Spin. Every playlist you work to is carefully curated by ourselves, often taking months to compile; making sure we know every beat and every drop so you feel truly driven every single time you get on one of our awesome Matrix bikes.

And when we say awesome bikes, we mean it. Fully serviced and maintained, our bikes put any other local Spin session to shame. Our bikes give you all your working Stats, so you can compete against yourself in every single session.

Come join the Best Spin sessions around. We won’t let you down. Link in Bio to our booking app MindBody, where you can claim your first session free.

We can’t wait to work out with you!

Meet Yvonne, Phoenix’s newest trainer! 🤩

Personally, I think Yvonne is an actual Superhero 🦸🏼‍♀️ One of THE MOST selfless people I’ve ever had the fortune to meet.

Here’s her story, in her words.

If you’ve ever thought, “the gym’s not for me”, or “it’s too late for me to start working out”, then you couldn’t be further from the truth.

I was in my early 40’s when I first set foot in a group exercise class, and I was terrified. I disliked P.E at school, I disliked exercise unless I was sat on top of a horse. Then suddenly I was struggling with perimenopause; which meant weight gain, and anxiety made walking into a room full of people I didn’t know, absolutely terrifying. But I did it! And I am so glad I did!!

I suffer with Rheumatoid arthritis, and my body is a bit worse for wear after the effects of a horrific car crash many years ago, which literally left my legs in pieces. On top of that, at the time, my self-confidence and self-belief were at an all-time low. So I’m not going to lie, it was really hard.

It all started with an indoor cycle class. I used to take my girls to swimming lessons, and whilst I was watching I would hear the music and the infectious enthusiasm of the instructor taking the class next door, and every week I just wished I could join in. Then one day, I finally plucked up the courage to walk through the door, and realised that first step wasn’t all that bad. That’s when I was lucky enough to meet Keri and witness the birth of Phoenix, the group exercise studio that has a little bit of magic!

Phoenix helped me change my perception of exercise. It gave me confidence, helped me start to believe in myself again, and as a mum who dedicates her life to caring for other people, it gave me a safe space just for me. And I say Phoenix because it includes all the members, and the amazing people I’ve met along the way. However… the burning heart of Phoenix is Keri. Keri is so supportive and encouraging. She is extremely knowledgeable and super-intuitive about the best way to help people, and she has created an environment with no judgement or unrealistic expectations. She has motivated me to do things I never thought I could, and I certainly never thought I would enjoy doing them, but here I am. Loving every minute of being there, to the point that I made the decision to re-train and become a fitness coach and personal trainer. So now not only am I a member of Phoenix, but I’m training to become a piece of it. The best bit is, I have as much joy taking the classes, as I do participating in them.

Four or so years ago, my rather broken body struggled with basic family dog walks. Walking always caused pain or discomfort in my legs. Arthritic pain in my joints would keep me awake at night, and my sudden drop in hormones made me feel like I was having a breakdown. I just didn’t feel like the person I used to be. I was fortunate to find Keri and Phoenix and they helped me fight back. Today, I am the strongest person I have ever been, and always looking for that next challenge!

So, come on, come and join our little . We can’t wait to have you with us.

Xx

🚨ANNOUNCEMENT🚨

🔥 PHOENIX 3.0 LAUNCHES 23/06/25 🔥

As lots of you are already aware, I was injured in a car accident back in December. Unfortunately this made a spine injury I was already living with even worse (detailed in previous posts about my broken metalwork), resulting in me having to take a major step back from teaching at Phoenix. Thankfully the amazing Yvonne was there to carry the load and keep Phoenix flickering away (keep an eye out for a post detailing Yvonne’s inspiring story and how she’s found herself as Phoenix’s newest trainer).

In March I FINALLY received the corrective surgery I was desperately in need of. Boy, was it painful 😰😅 and after 3 months of slow recovery I feel ready to return to Phoenix. And I CANNOT wait 🤩🥳

So, starting Monday June 23rd I will resume full time at Phoenix. I will be back teaching group sessions and back working with my private clients. I will also be offering small private groups, so if you and a few friends all want to workout together but don’t fancy the main timetable, or the timings don’t quite fit for you, why not book your own private slot so you can all workout together in your own private studio - it’s the perfect solution! It also brings down the cost of having your training set personally to you and your goals.

There will be a couple of very small changes to the timetable, including class names (don’t worry, they’re still the same classes you know and love) - these will go live in the next week or so as the systems get updated:

Monday
17:30-18:15 - Phoenix Pilates
18:30-19:15 - Phoenix Cycle

Tuesday
17:30-18:15 - Phoenix Cycle with Yvonne
18:30-19:15 - Phoenix Circuit with Yvonne

Thursday
18:30-19:15 - BoxFit will no longer run.

Body Burn will be renamed Phoenix Strong and Toned.

In the meantime you can remind yourselves of the rest of the timetable, along with the pricing and information on how Phoenix passes work, at the website:

www.phoenixgroupexercise.co.uk

See you Monday June 23rd. I can’t wait to workout with you all again!

It’s been a long time coming. It’s finally happened. The pain I am currently experiencing is laughing in the face of the pain I have been living with. It hurts so bad.

But I refuse to stop staring at that light at the end of the tunnel. Working again, big hikes with my 2 favourite boys, joining in with whatever Layla happens to be doing at any given time. Booking our Honeymoon to hike around the Norwegian Fjords. We’ll get it all back. We will.

I will not be beaten. I’m in so much pain, but it’s going to be so worth it. I’m excited for the future.

MY STORY

In 2006 I had a laparoscopy to diagnose endometriosis. I always knew I had it - nobody knows your body better than you do - but it took over 15 years to be taken seriously and finally have the laparoscopy that proved my suffering was REAL.

Whilst under anaesthetic something happened that I’ll never know the truth about, but I ended up with a serious spine injury. It took another THREE YEARS before my pain was taken seriously enough that I was offered major surgery to fuse my spine. So, at the age of 29 I underwent a spinal fusion.

Fast forward to January 2022 and I started experiencing massive pain in my lower back. It took over a year of endless doctor appointments, constantly telling them I could feel something wasn’t right, before I was scanned and eventually found out that the fusion hadn’t worked. The pain had gone purely down to the metal work stabilising my spine.

The reason I now suffer with so much pain? The metal work is broken.

So now I’m living with a spinal injury AND broken metalwork. The spine never fused. So I’m now on the waiting list for TWO major surgeries. One to try and remove the old metalwork and one to try and fix the original problem.

So, why am I telling you this?

Because I have worked throughout it all. Being a group ex, and personal, trainer. I actively join in all of my group ex sessions.

I’m sharing this with you so you can be confident that you can exercise too. Injuries, or health conditions, don’t have to define you. They don’t have to stop you from doing the things you love, and the things you want to do.

If you work with me you can be confident that I can help you. I know how to make you stronger than you thought. I can help you to live the way you want to - PAIN FREE.

I’ve worked with so many people, living with all sorts of challenges. Cancer. Brain injuries. Spine injuries. Scoliosis. Shoulder issues. Knee issues.

Movement should never be given up on. Let’s work together to get you moving again.

Keri x
