☕️🍰 MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING AT THE WAGGON 💚

On Tuesday 29th September, 11am–1pm, we’re swapping pints for cuppas (temporarily, don’t panic) and raising some money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

There’ll be cakes, plants, bits to buy and plenty more — all for a bloody good cause.

Come down, have a coffee, eat an entirely unreasonable amount of cake and help us raise as much as we can. 💚

And if anyone fancies baking something or donating something for us to sell, give us a shout — the more the merrier.

Apparently we haven’t embarrassed ourselves enough lately, so next Saturday 12th September we’re having an 80s party.

7.30pm onwards.

We want shell suits, leg warmers, double denim, neon, perms, mullets and anything else that makes you look like you’ve been banned from a 1987 branch of Woolworths.

🎶 You lot are choosing the music.

Stick your best 80s requests in the comments. Good ones, bad ones, ridiculously cheesy ones — we don’t care.

We’ll play as many as we can, although anyone requesting Agadoo may be asked to leave.

Fancy dress isn’t compulsory.

But we will silently judge you if you don’t bother.

After accidentally opening a waterpark last week, we’ve decided our next completely sensible business decision is to turn the pub into the Wild West.

What could possibly go wrong?

We’re seeing out 2026 with The Moonshine Hillbillies, a saloon full of questionable characters and enough cowboy hats to make absolutely nobody look dignified.

🎸 Live music from The Moonshine Hillbillies
🤠 Wild West dress-up — strongly encouraged
🍴 Buffet — because cowboys need feeding
🥃 First drink included — because cowboys also need watering
🌵 Games, stupidity and whatever else we think is a good idea between now and December

💦 THE WAGGON WATERPARK – FINAL UPDATE (HOPEFULLY!) 💦

After a week involving slightly more water than any pub should reasonably contain, we’re pleased to say we are now pretty much fully reopened! 🍻

There are still a few battle scars and bits to finish, but hopefully the emergency repairs, unexpected indoor water features and general chaos are finally behind us.

It’s certainly been an interesting week… what was supposed to be our family holiday in Turkey mostly involved phone calls, photos of ceilings, contractors, insurance conversations and trying to run a flooded pub from 2,000 miles away. 😂☀️📞 Safe to say it wasn’t quite the relaxing break we had planned!

A massive thank you to our team for dealing with everything thrown at them, and to everyone who’s stuck with us, checked in, helped out and continued coming through the doors while The Waggon briefly attempted to become Somerset’s newest aquatic attraction.

Normal pub service has resumed. 🍺
Hopefully the only water coming through the building now is via the taps. 🤞

Don’t forget Sunday Roast will be back on this week as well!

Talking of cowboys… 🤠

There’s a reason we’ve mentioned them.

🐀 BREAKING NEWS FROM THE WAGGON…

Apparently, according to very reliable local sources, we have a MASSIVE rat infestation. 😱

We popped down to investigate and, fair enough, they weren’t exaggerating. The bloody things are enormous.

Thankfully there’s some good news — the rats we actually had a problem with have already been kicked out. 😉

Meanwhile, the pub remains proudly 5-star Food Hygiene rated, with proper pest-control procedures in place and absolutely no giant rodents currently employed in the kitchen.

We appreciate everyone’s concern during this difficult and extremely rodent-filled time. 🐀🐀🐀

TENTATIVELY REOPENING — THURSDAY 11AM 🍺

Good news! After months of roof leaks, Stonegate finally started replacing the roof.

It then rained.

This apparently came as something of a surprise.

After several days of water pouring through ceilings, lights and fire-detection equipment, a collapsed ceiling, soaked carpets and the temporary transformation of The Waggon into Somerset’s least-requested waterpark, we’re hoping to reopen Thursday at 11am.

We say hoping, because despite the enthusiasm to get us open, we’d quite like to make sure the building is actually safe first.

Some areas may therefore remain closed or undergoing repairs.

Thanks for bearing with us — and a special thanks to Stonegate for proving that replacing a leaking roof can, in fact, make it leak considerably more.

Just thought we’d keep you updated.

We’ve eventually got hold of Stonegate and their stupid online systems 🤬

Currently, we have had the roofers back out to weatherproof the roof (supposedly and for how long 🤷🏽‍♂️), the ceiling did collapse whilst we were closed so that has also been cleaned up. Electrician has has been to make the wiring safe along with the fire alarm system.

We are awaiting a specialist cleaning company today to dry the building out and give the carpets a good clean as they smell like a wet dog that’s been trapped in a 1980’s caravan with a forgotten PE kit!

Our plan, 🤞🏼 is to open potentially Thursday but most likely by Friday morning. Depends on how things go today.

Well… this wasn’t quite the weekend entertainment we had planned. 🌧️🪣

Unfortunately, The Waggon has decided to explore its potential as an indoor water park.

Following significant water ingress from the recent heavy rain, we’ve spoken with our insurer and have been advised to temporarily close due to electrical and health & safety concerns. Apparently there is some minor rules about keeping people safe or some sh*t.

We’re absolutely gutted, but apparently “pints with a complimentary indoor shower” isn’t an acceptable business model. Who knew?

Stonegate now need to assess the building and get things made safe before we can reopen.

Hopefully we’ll be back pouring pints rather than collecting rainwater very soon. 🍺

After approximately 4 months without any meaningful rain, Stonegate finally arranged for our roof to be replaced.

Naturally, the exact week they took the roof apart, the heavens opened. 🌧️😂

So we’re delighted to announce Taunton’s newest attraction…

🌊 THE WAGGON WATERPARK 🌊

Featuring rooftop lagoons, indoor waterfalls, unexpected splash zones and several areas of the pub currently enjoying a rather more open-plan relationship with the weather than we’d ideally like.

You genuinely couldn’t make it up. 🤦‍♂️

We’re still open, we’re still pouring pints, and we’re hoping the next phase of the refurbishment involves putting the water on the outside of the building. 🍺
