My husband, Neil, and I are from Halifax, West Yorkshire and we use parkrun as an opportunity for a spot of tourism and visiting different places within the UK and around the world 🌎

Earlier in the week Neil announced he had bought a bicycle in Devon, approximately 300 miles and 5 hours from home 🚲 Yes! The perfect opportunity to visit Somerset on the way, and collect Lu for my periodic table challenge. Other challenges are available and congratulations to Hannah, completing her 2nd alphabet today 🔠

Special mention goes to Johnny who was getting married later today 🤵 The 5th September is an amazing day for a wedding... Neil and me are celebrating our 31st wedding anniversary today 💕

We arrived early, loo stop at nearby Tesco, and parked up near the Castle School and Sports Centre, which was £1 for the day. A quick walk to the Oak Barn, which serves as the meeting point. It did look fairly quiet, but then people appeared from every direction!

Plenty of visitors today, including Becky and her group from Porthcawl, who were tasked with handing over B16, one of the Boomerangs released into the wild as part of the second tranche from the Facebook group "10 Boomerangs South Beach Fremantle" 🪃

The course is a lovely 2-lap, flat, trail(ish) course through woods, across field and grit paths, and around meadows. There were a few pinch points at the beginning, but nothing major, and plenty of smiley faces from participants and marshals.

The results show that 37 different clubs were represented today, including Neil and me from Sowerby Bridge Snails Running Club.
This week 450 people ran, jogged and walked the course, including 55 visiting Longrun Meadow for the first time.

Huge congratulations to the 58 who recorded new Personal Bests and got to ring the PB bell 🔔

First male finisher was Harry Perkins, with an impressive time of 17:06 on his 10th parkrun. Caroline Arckless was first female finisher with a time of 20:22 on her 376th finish!
Top age grades went to Sarah Capstick with 88.53% and Richard Marriott with 83.04%

Milestones completed today:
3️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ David Poulsom
2️⃣5️⃣0️⃣ Lucy Watson, Diana Violet
2️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ Edmund East
1️⃣5️⃣0️⃣ Becca Locke
1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ Matthew Haslett, Kat Perry
5️⃣0️⃣ Alec Mackendrick, Justine Brunton
2️⃣5️⃣ Charlotte Kee, Vinayak Sabrish Vivekanandan, Claire Hodgson, Annalise Piper
1️⃣0️⃣ Harry Perkins

Today’s runniest parkrunners (in terms of total parkrun finishes!) were Jeremy Creasey, with 662 parkrun finishes, and Sarah Capstick, with 517. Impressive guys!

Post-parkrun faffing was at The Weir, the community café in the nearby COACH [Centre for Outdoor Activity and Community Hub] facility ☕️🍰 Nice to see it well supported by parkrunners.

Lovely to chat with locals and get some ideas of other parkruns in the vicinity… definitely another visit is on the cards.
parkrun would not be possible without volunteers, and your 24 hi-viz heroes this week were:
Nic MONTEIRO • Zac MONTEIRO • Marcus ALBANO • Morwenna DUNSTAN • Carol LLOYD • Duncan MOORE • Stephen TRAYNOR • Scarlett BURNELL • Ben FROWDE • Brian BANDYSZEWSKI • Andy GEORGE • Adele DONEGAN • Will OSMOND • Nigel BIRLEY • Jakki MACPHAIL • Jane KNIGHT • Leo ROCHE • Alec BURFORD • Margaret BURFORD • Dianne RONSON • Andrew FORD • Rob TREM • Bruce CROSLAND • Scarlett MACKENDRICK

If you want to volunteer over the next couple of weeks, take a look at the future roster - I’m sure they’d be delighted with some extra support.

Longrun Meadow Parkrun no. 584

29 August 2026

Report by Jonathan Gill - Taunton AC

Well, doesn't time fly, its the end of August already, and what a summer it’s been!

There was, for the first time for several months, dampness in the air as Run Director Barry welcomed this week's parkrunners, the worst of the forecast rain having cleared earlier then expected.

Being the last saturday of the month, it was also pacer week, with pacer co-ordinator Marcus once again filling all the finish time slots, helping 50 happy parkrunners to PB's this week. There were 75 first-timers, welcomed this week by Isaac.

Barry also reminded people to be careful as there have several accidents in recent weeks.

Milestones this week were: Fellow Taunton AC member Ashley Stewart did his 100th, with Lisa Windsor doing her 100th also.

Ray Maul along with Longrun Meadow legend Brian Standring both did their (unofficial) 200th. It was also Brian’s 88th birthday weekend as well.

This week 424 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 75 were first timers and 50 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 36 different clubs took part.

The event was made possible by 42 volunteers:

A special focus on Longrun Meadow parkrun ‘fancy dress’ legend and core team member Craig Whitemore, who completed his 500th parkrun on Saturday.

Craig always says parkrun changed his life. Ask his better half Kirstie! “If he didn’t start doing parkrun, Sharron wouldn’t have convinced him to join TAC & he wouldnt have met me’… he might be regretting that now 😂”

It’s fair to say parkrun is a focal point of his life. “heaven forbid we try and arrange a holiday that doesn’t have a parkrun nearby or even worse is the weekend of Taunton 10k 😂”

In all seriousness Craig you are like the majority of the parkrun family. Keep making us smile with your fancy dress and here’s to the next 500 💪from all your parkrun family 😍

Longrun Meadow parkrun
Event number 583
22nd August 2026
By Harry Bridges.

On what certainly felt like a cooler morning, appeared to actually be rather warm whilst running around the meadow. The meadow was extremely dry and dusty again this week, which is no change from the last couple of months to be totally honest!!!

This week we had an incredible number of participants running, walking and jogging their way round the course. Congratulations to all 540 of you that made your way from start to finish!

One of our regular parkrunners and volunteer, Denis Violet, welcomed an astonishing 91 first timers to longrun meadow today, we hope you all had a wonderful experience and we look forward to welcoming you again soon. Sticking with Denis, Denis achieved his 250th Run this week, whilst also doing is 62nd volunteer! Thank you Denis for being one of our amazing regular volunteer and parkrunner!

Today 70 people recorded new Personal Bests and a representatives of 50 different clubs took part.

The first 3 males are
Russell Yates - 17:03
Edward Salter - 17:15 (New Pb)
Richard Marriott - 17:28

The first 3 females are
Sarah Shepherd - 20:35
Emma Kiernan - 20:45
Sarah Capstick - 22:24

Milestones this week were:
Denis violet - 250 runs
Vicky Hanna - 250 volunteers
Craig whitemore - 500 runs
Monica Pancha - 25 runs
Kate Davis - 50 runs
Karen peters - 50 runs

Congratulations to all of you, and sorry if I have missed any! Searching for milestones in the results is a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack!!

I must give a specific mention to Craig Whitemore on completing 500th parkruns, who was presented with his milestone top by todays RD, the same way it used to happen when Craig started parkrunning in 2014! (Yes, I had to look through parkrun stats to find that)! So, a massive well done Craig, from all of us at Longrun Meadow! Enjoy your next 500+ runs!

The event was made possible by 26 volunteers: Michael ADAMS • Nic MONTEIRO • Linda PAYNE • Marcus ALBANO • Linda HOLDER • Kirsty HITCHENS • Alison WASEY • Joanne WATSON • David BRUNT • Duncan MOORE • Scarlett BURNELL • Rebecca WHITE • Vicky HANNA • Denis VIOLET • Nikki COULTHARD • Brian STANDRING • Nigel BIRLEY • Harry BRIDGES • Jakki MACPHAIL • Leo ROCHE • Andrew FORD • Gideon AMOS • Neil PIPER • Deborah DENNIS • Scarlett MACKENDRICK • Bill STEBBING

Sticking with the theme of volunteers, parkrun cannot run without our wonderful volunteers, each week Duncan Moore, works extremely hard to fill the roster, which is made even more challenging due to the summer holidays, so a massive thank you must go to Duncan!
