Another enjoyable game of cricket yesterday against Slindon CC which unfortunately ended in defeat.

We managed to turn up with 11 players this week and elected to bat first after winning the toss. We then found ourselves 3 wickets down with 41 on the board in the 10th over after some excellent bowling by their opening bowler. A partnership of 63 between D. Attmore and T. Vinnivombe (on his Boxgrove homecoming) steadied the ship, before Attmore was bowled for 18.

A couple of questionable umpiring decisions got rid of our danger men with J. Wakelin falling for an impressive 15 on debut and T. Vinnicombe finally going for a wonderful 82!

Our tail managed to get us up to 160 runs before we lost our final wicket, meaning we new it would be a challenge to defend that score.

Things started relatively well in the field with S. Seville picking up a couple of early wickets, including a spell of 5 overs, 3 maidens, 2 wickets for 8 runs!

However a partnership of almost 100 took the game away from us before a couple of smart catches behind the stumps from D. Attmore gave us a sniff.

Boxgrove kept on it in the field and we were determined to make Slindon work for the runs. In the end, they saw it home with 6 wickets remaining and 7 overs to spare.

Everyone played their part, but a huge shout out to T. Vinnicombe (82 runs), S. Seville (7 overs, 3 maidens, 3-11) and J. Wakelin (15 runs and 4 overs, 1 maiden, 0-12).

Thank you to everyone at Slindon CC for an enjoyable afternoon's cricket.

Another defeat for Boxgrove yesterday, but a good game of friendly Sunday cricket was enjoyed against all.

Travelling to the beautiful setting of Burpham to take on Burpham & Warningcamp CC, we arrived with only 8 players and were grateful to the opposition for lending us two players at a time to come on and field/bowl for us during the first innings.

We got off to a decent start with sub fielder #1 taking a catch off X. Arman's bowling in just the 3rd over. However, we didn't take another wicket until the 18th over when J. Callnon took a catch off R. Wilcox to dismiss their number 3 for 80.

A superb run out at the bowlers end from R. Wilcox in the following over saw their number 4 out for a duck. Their opening batsman then retired after scoring his century and the runs kept flowing for Burpham reaching an impressive total of 273 for 3 off their 30 overs.

A result of the sharing of fielders meant we managed to use 11 different bowlers!

Facing an uphill task, especially after a delicious tea, Boxgrove got off to a worse start losing their first wicket in just the second over with J. King out for 1. The opening bowling partnership was tight which meant that runs were tough to come by and we reached drinks on 59 for 1 off 15 overs - a long way behind!

A wicket fell in the first over after drinks with D. Attmore out for 26 runs. X. Arman then fell for 1 run a few overs later, with G. Dunkely scoring 6 before falling in the 24th over. Some impressive shots from J. Callnon and opener J. Arman (who finished just short of a century with 93 runs to his name), saw us end on 156 for 4 off our 30 overs.

Thanks again to Burpham for their hospitality and ensuring a great game of cricket in the warm sunshine was enjoyed.
