While we recognise this is an incredibly sensitive subject for our local community, we would be remiss if we didn’t take the opportunity to share this important reminder about water safety during Drowning Prevention Week.
None of the water at our park is safe to enter. It can contain hidden dangers such as debris, weeds, and strong currents, which can quickly cause even the most experienced swimmers to get into difficulty. There is also the risk of waterborne diseases.
We know how tempting it can be to cool off in the water on a hot day, but please stay safe by keeping a sensible distance from the water and enjoy some time in the many shady areas of our park if the sun gets too much.
If you do see someone in trouble in the water, remember Phone, Float, Throw:
📞 Phone 999
🗣️Tell them to float on their back
🛟 Throw something to help them float
We know there most likely aren’t too many young people following our page – so our ask is for you to pass this message on, whether it’s to your own children, nieces and nephews, neighbours, or children and young people you work with.
It could make a difference when it matters the most. Thank you.
