"So if people don’t understand why you love table tennis so much…good. You’ve probably found something special"
🏓 Most people think table tennis is just a “ping pong hobby.”
But the people who become great at it?
They’re obsessed.
Obsessed with a 2mm change in bat angle.
Obsessed with serve variations nobody else notices.
Obsessed with footwork patterns, spin, timing, recovery, discipline, repetition.
To outsiders, it looks boring.
To us?
It’s art. It’s warfare. It’s identity.
The truth is, the world is built by people who care greatly about things other people ignore.
The athlete studying one movement frame-by-frame.
The coach analysing details nobody applauds.
The player staying after training to hit “just one more bucket of multi-ball.”
Obsession is uncomfortable for people who’ve never deeply cared about something.
But every high performer you admire was once called “too obsessed.”
🏓 At Auckland Table Tennis Association, we see it every day:
Players chasing one extra percent.
Parents sacrificing weekends.
Coaches refining tiny details.
Athletes refusing to quit after tough losses.
And honestly?
That obsession is beautiful.
Because passion without obsession rarely becomes excellence.
So if people don’t understand why you love table tennis so much…
good.
You’ve probably found something special 🔥💙
