If your dog can see a hide.. is it really a hide?
We take the setting up of our search areas very seriously at the college - we want to be truly testing the skills of you and your dog, and that means a blind search really is a blind.
Hide placement is so important, because if a handler can see the hide, it can:
🔷 Impact body language
♦️Cause accidental handler intervention in the search
And if your dog can see the hide:
🔷 They don’t have to use their nose!
♦️ They may start relying on visual cues rather than scent
There are ways of changing the difficulty of a search, and making the hide an obvious visual is not one of them!
