MATCH REPORT

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Score: FC Lizard 2 v 3 Pip Club
Goalscorers: Michael Hicks, Jamie Shirley (p)
Assists: N/A
MoM: Sam Jones

--------------------------------------------------------------------

FC Lizard suffered back to back defeats for the first time this season as Pip Club took all 3 points in a closely contested game. The visitors came flying out of the blocks and assumed an early 2 goal lead after a good headed effort and a sublime top corner finish.
Lizard built themselves into the game though and managed to get a goal back through a delightful Michael HICKS free kick which nestled in the top left corner. With momentum swinging the way of the Lizards, the equaliser came after terrible defending led to Hicks being taken out by 2 Pip defenders to see the referee award a penalty. Jamie SHIRLEY stepped up and powered home his effort to level things up.

An evenly contested second half saw both teams having very good chances to take the lead, and it looked as if the game would swing the way of Pip when the referee awarded a soft penalty for a block in the box. Up stepped Fortune Sibanda, but his weak effort was well saved by stand in GK Tom Clarke to keep the scores at a Desmond Tutu.
With only moments of the game left, it was Pip who snatched all 3 points as Clarke saved the initial shot well but the striker was in space to prod home the follow up to ensure all 3 points in an end to end fixture. In a game that could have gone either way, Lizard did well to compete with the abundance of Prem standard quality littered throughout the Pip squad - and there won't be many teams who take points from the youthful outfit this season.

MATCH REPORT

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Opposition: Belgrave SSC
Score: 5 v 2
Goalscorers: Simon Latchford, Alex Charlton
Assists: Michael Hicks x 2
MoM: Simon Latchford

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FC Lizard suffered their first league defeat of the season at the hands of a potent Belgrave SSC who moved ahead of their opposition in the table with the win.
It was the visitors who started the game brighter with Lizard taking the lead following a well worked corner routine. Michael Hicks low whipped ball was met by Simon LATCHFORD who managed to get his pigeon toe on the ball to tap in at the near post.
Belgrave offered little throughout the half as Lizard defended well, but they were offered a life-line just before the half time whistle with a soft free kick given by the referee. A well struck effort left Tonks stood standing in the Lizard goal as the ball flew into the bottom right hand corner to level the scores.
The second half kicked off with the momentum continuing to swing the way of Belgrave and they took the lead following a poorly marked corner where a free header was nodded home comfortably. The next 10 minutes saw somewhat of a fight back from the Lizards and they were able to equalise after another well worked set piece caught Belgrave off-guard leading to Alex CHARLTON slotting home from 10 yards out following Hicks' slide rule through ball.
The joys didn't last long though as Belgrave again took the lead through controversial officiating of the game, but the moans and groans of the Lizard faithful were met with an attitude of ignorance from the match official.
The hosts went on to add another 2 goals to well and truly rub salt into the Lizard wounds, despite all of the efforts at a fightback.
Next up for the Lizards is a tough game against the Pip Club who will be the visitors to New Mill Lane for next weeks showdown.

Opposition: AFC Blacksmiths Arms
Score: 9 v 1

FC Lizard were made to work hard in order to secure passage through to the second round of the ES George Cup, with the scoreline masking what was a closely contested game.
Blacksmiths started the game well and got themselves into a deserved lead following another sloppy start from FC Lizard. A cut back to Jake OWEN on the edge of the 18 yard box was slotted neatly into the top left corner to put the visitors into the lead. Despite this set back, Lizard continued to try and play out from the back, and were able to break open the Blacksmiths back line on several occasions but lackluster finishing meant the score stayed at 0-1. The pick of the chances fell to Joe Thomas who was left with an open goal to fire home into, however the ball was later recovered from Drayton Manor Park following his skyed effort.
AFC Blacksmiths continued to counter attack effectively, but a few tidy saves from Stephen Tonks kept the deficit at just 1 goal. Lizard eventually got the equaliser just before the half time whistle as Dave Tonks broke down the left hand side and a sublime low cross was met by Dave HILL for him to scramble the ball home.

The second half ended up being a lot more of a one sided affair, as an early goal scored by HILL deflated the Division 2 side. Subequently, Lizard ended up adding 7 more goals as HILL completed his hat-trick, followed by efforts from CARTWRIGHT, LEWIS, GOUGH, HICKS, SIDAWAY & CHARLTON.
Blacksmiths can take a lot from their performance into their league campaign, as Lizard progress to face TLK in the second round.
