🏌️‍♂️ When you tee off for the first hole at Tain you’ll be under the watchful eye of a striking statue of “Old Tom Morris” (1821-1908), outstanding champion golfer, maker of golf clubs and balls, St Andrews greenkeeper and celebrated designer of numerous courses across the UK.

Old Tom watches over the Tain course because it was he who originally laid it out, in 1889, at the invitation of a group of local golfers who had been granted a piece of land from a local land owner.

Tain is one of the very few courses left where golfers can confidently play Tom Morris holes that survive either wholly or in part. Going out Tom’s magic touch lingers on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th and 9th, and coming in on the 10th, 14th and 15th.

The Alps. ⛰️

Over 100 years later, the signature 11th at Tain still delivers the kind of golfing challenge that made Old Tom Morris one of the game’s greatest architects.

🏆 A special moment on the way to victory.

Congratulations to senior member Iain Cooper, who holed his second shot at the 6th on his way to winning the Barmac Trophy with an excellent nett 67.

A brilliant shot and a great round to secure the trophy. Well played, Iain! 👏⛳

🗣️ “Lovers of Old Tom Morris’ architecture must add Tain to a Highlands itinerary. History has been preserved at this peaceful layout, as fairways tumble naturally across rumpled ground.”

🗣️ “Tain is one of those Highland courses that quietly surprises you. Founded in 1890 and shaped by Old Tom Morris. The setting is superb panoramic views across the Dornoch Firth, the estuary on one side, hills on the other.”

🗣️ “A stunning, tranquil and varied course that is a terrific example of how good architecture can stand the test of time.”

🗣️ “Overlooking the Dornoch Firth, Tain Golf Club arguably offers one of the best settings imaginable in the highlands for a round of golf. With sea on one side and the backdrop of the mountains behind.”
