Strong mind = Strong body

How strong is your mind? Do you do your best or do you do what is required? I bet in some aspects you do what is required but in some you do your 'best'. Often doing our best is an excuse for not doing enough, we tell ourselves that we did our best but in reality we came far short of that.

I have to tell myself to do what is required all the time, because my best often just isn't good enough. I don't let myself 'do my best' and fall short of my goals. I do what is required, then I realize that I can do a whole lot more than I initially thought I could.

Would you rather have an easy life or the strength to endure a hard one?

Well it doesn't really matter what you want as this is what we have. You can either complain and say 'it's too hard' or build the strength necessary.

I've had it harder than most but not as hard as some. And a lot of my own actions made it even harder than it needed to be.

I've learnt a lot, I didn't have a choice. And I want to lessen the burden of your journey.

I've been wrestling with emotional pain for years, it's been a fu***ng rollercoaster. Some days are better than others, and some are downright awful. And I've tried just about everything to free myself from these feelings: counselling, CBT, meditation, medication. And every self destructive behaviour you can imagine. It was touch a go for years but Iโ€™m still here. But I figured out how to break the cycle.

๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ Pursuing goals, this opened by eyes that I was actually capable of achieving things. Whether it's the thrill of squatting 180kg or working to get my body weight below 90kg, the journey and transformation has been nothing short of amazing. ๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿ’ฅ When it comes to achieving those incredible feats, be it getting stronger, leaner, or whatever your heart desires, two crucial things are in play.

๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป First, it's all about having a program. But thatโ€™s the easy bit.

Then there's the second piece of the puzzle โ€“ fuel. Let me share a real experiment. Scientists once placed a starving mouse in a tube with a tempting piece of cheese right in front of it and measured how hard it pulled towards the cheese. But when they wafted in the smell of a cat from behind. You would think that the mouse will pull as hard as it could to get the cheese but no, the mouse pulled HARDER to get away from the cat than to go towards these cheese. The cat is a bigger motivator that the cheese. ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿพ

This is a lot like life, isn't it? Running away from something you hate is more powerful than running towards something you like. There will definitely examples of this in your life you just havenโ€™t realised it until now. If someone has a health scare and HAS to get in shape, they nearly always do it, but theyโ€™ve know they should lose weight for years. The cat is a more powerful motivator.

We all have our fears and insecurities, just like that mouse had the cat to fear. For me, it's the fear of never being good enough and the dread of failure that fuels my journey. We all have our demons. And if donโ€™t you must have had a pretty chill life, good for you! ๐ŸŒŸ

If you're wrestling with negative feelings, you might as well turn them into your strengths. Because if you donโ€™t, they WILL use you even if you donโ€™t realise it. I was there for years and I wish someone told me this earlier. ๐Ÿ™€

If you're hell-bent on building muscle, you might think an increasing scale is the golden ticket. Be careful! It can lead you down the path of becoming the Michelin Man โ€“ been there, done that, more than once! ๐Ÿ™ˆ

The real secret? Focus on getting stronger! ๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ

All you need is 20 working sets per muscle group each week, divided into 2 workouts for each group. Keep it efficient and effective! โฑ๏ธ

๐Ÿ’ฅ Use compound exercises that work multiple muscle groups at once. Get in, get out of the gym, and still get those gains. Plus, they trigger a bigger hormonal response for more muscle growth! ๐Ÿ’ฅ

It's the weekend! ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ•๐Ÿฅ‚

You're allowed to go off diet, right? ๐Ÿค” It might be time to reconsider! ๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ

Did you know that by taking weekends off, you're potentially going backwards for 104 days a year? That's a lot of lost progress! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ and it can take at least the first two days of the week just to get back to where you were on Friday. Depending on how much of a bender let yourself go on. You are the average of your behavior.

So if you you spend 156 (3 days a week) days a year making โ€˜loadsโ€™ of progress, you'll be further away from your goal than someone who makes a โ€˜pretty goodโ€™ progress for 365 days straight. ๐Ÿ’ช Now if you can make great progress everyday, in a sustainable way that doesn't give you the urge to go of track. Now that's a super-weapon.

๐Ÿš€ Transformation!

๐Ÿ’” These pictures are 5 years apart! I knew exactly what I needed to do to get in shape 5 years ago, but there was a problem.

I tried everything - fancy diets, different training protocols, you name it. While all of these can and will work, I was still missing something crucial. My head was a mess. I was stuck in a never-ending cycle of feeling like a failure and wasting my potential. It's a terrible place to be, and I spent years there, trying to 'think' my way out of it. But constantly making decisions that reinforced those negative feelings about myself.

๐ŸŒŸ The solution took me longer to figure out than I'd like to admit, and it's as simple as this: Get out of your own way, every decision you make will either bring you closer to your goal or push it further away.

Where will you be in 6 months?

Knowing where to start is the hardest part, you want to get stronger or lose weight but what is the first step?

Let me break it down for you.
First you need a definitive goal, something a lot more specific than just 'i want to lose weight' or 'get stronger'

Pick a goal bodyweight and be precise (drop 10kgs). Or pick an exercise such as bench press and what you want to be able to lift. Such as 60kg for 10 reps.

Now that you've got your goal you can work back on how to achieve it. Losing weight you need to reduce your calories, google calorie calculator and fill it in and it'll spit out a number to aim for. Then download a calorie calculator like MyFitnessPal and log EVERYTHING you consume. If you log everything and meet your calorie target you WILL lose weight. It's a certainly.

To improve your bench you'll need to do more bench pressing. 20 sets of chest work split into two sessions a week, so that 2 workouts of 5 sets of bench press followed by 5 sets of either dumbbell flys or a chest machine. Slowly increase the weight once a week until you got your goal.
