Same month. Same revenue. More work.

If that sounds familiar, the answer may not be another funnel, another offer or even more content.

There could already be money sitting inside the business you’ve built — but when you’re the one doing everything, you’re often too close to see it.

The enquiry that never became a sale.

The customer who bought once and never heard from you again.

The thing people continually ask for that you don’t actually charge for.

On Thursday 24 September at 5pm, I’m running a live Zoom session:

WHY IS YOUR BUSINESS STUCK AT THE SAME REVENUE?

Bring your actual business. We’ll look at where money could be slipping away, what you already have that could earn more, and what’s worth acting on first.

“I’m sure this business should be making more money than it is”

You don’t need to be in trouble to want a second pair of eyes on your business.

You might have good clients, an experienced team and plenty of work coming through. Yet you’re not convinced the return reflects the effort, expertise and assets you’ve built.

Perhaps an offer is being undersold. Perhaps clients only know about one part of what you do. Perhaps there’s an opportunity you keep talking about but nobody has had time to properly assess.

That’s where I come in.

The Money Gap Method™ is a way to bring my commercial experience into your business and examine where money, value or opportunity may be getting missed.

We start with a conversation about what’s happening, what feels stuck and whether I’m the right person to help.

If you run an established business and this sounds familiar, book a Money Gap Conversation with me:

An opportunity can be good and still be wrong for your business right now.

That’s an awkward one when you’re a founder who can see possibilities everywhere. A partnership, a new service, another market. You can see how each could work, so you keep them all in play.

Meanwhile, your team is trying to work out which one matters most.

Having built and sold businesses myself, I understand the attraction of a new idea. I also know it has to earn its place alongside the commitments you’ve already made.

Who will deliver it? What will it take away from? Is there a buyer, or are we just excited about the possibility?

Those questions deserve time before everyone gets busy.

Part of my role as a commercial adviser is helping founders weigh those decisions. Sometimes there’s a valuable connection to make. Sometimes the strongest decision is to park a perfectly good idea.

You don’t have to pursue every opportunity to be commercially ambitious. You do need to give the ones you choose a proper chance.

Before you spend money finding more customers, what happened to the people who already wanted to buy?

The enquiry that needed a proper conversation. The proposal that went quiet. The existing client who bought one thing and has no idea you could help with something else.

It’s easy for these to disappear into the working week when everyone is busy delivering.

Then sales feel slow, and the conversation turns to more marketing.

I’d want to look at what’s already there first. Not every old enquiry is worth chasing, but there’s a difference between an opportunity that went nowhere and one nobody followed through.

That’s one of the places I look with The Money Gap Method™: where interest, relationships or expertise already exist, but the business isn’t making enough of them.

Before adding another campaign to the list, I’d ask: have we properly worked with the opportunities the last one created?

I have a confession.

I’m very good at spotting where other businesses are leaving money on the table.

Put me in someone else’s business and I can usually see it quickly.

The offer they're overlooking.
The expertise they're undercharging for.
The obvious commercial opportunity sitting right under their nose.

My own business?

Apparently I’m just as capable of being completely blind. 😂

Over the last few weeks I've started looking seriously at NED roles, fractional Sales Director positions and commercial advisory work.

And I've had one of those slightly ridiculous moments:

Why wasn't I looking at these before?

I've got 25+ years of commercial experience. I've built and sold businesses. I've led sales at £1.2m a month. I've spent years helping other people find opportunities they couldn't see.

Yet some of the most obvious ways of monetising my own experience weren't even on my radar.

Why?

Because I was too close to it.

And because, like a lot of entrepreneurs, I can have approximately 20,000 brilliant ideas before breakfast. 😂

I've always told my clients:

Do the thing that makes or saves you the most money in the least amount of time.

Everything else?

Put it on the Sexy Spreadsheet™ and come back to it later.

Turns out I needed to take my own medicine.

That's really what the Money Gap is.

It isn't necessarily something missing from your business.

Sometimes the money is already there. You're simply too close to see it.

So here's today's uncomfortable question:

If you looked at your own business as if it belonged to somebody else, where would you tell them they're leaving money on the table?

A microphone is useful. So is knowing when to stop talking.

Back in the studio at Swindon 105.5 last week, headphones on and very much enjoying this part of my working life.

Radio, speaking and commercial advisory might look like different activities, but listening matters in all three.

In a business conversation, “we need more sales” can be the starting point. What needs exploring is why the existing opportunities aren’t turning into the business they should.

Is the offer clear? Do people understand the value? Is the founder still having to explain everything personally?

After more than 25 years of building, running and advising businesses, I’m interested in what sits underneath the first answer.

You can fill a room with advice very quickly. Finding the question that actually moves the conversation forward takes a bit more attention.

That’s the part I enjoy.

A business can outgrow the way people describe it.

You’ve built the experience, taken on bigger challenges and become useful in ways your original introduction never covered but people still introduce you as the person you were five years ago.

That can cost you. You get referred for work you’ve moved beyond, while the opportunities you actually want go elsewhere because nobody thought of you.

I’ve had to look at this in my own business. My experience includes building and selling businesses, leading sales teams, advising founders and speaking. Making it clear when to bring me into the room matters more than squeezing all of that into a job title.

For an established founder, it’s a useful question: are people buying what you’re capable of today, or what they remember you doing?

Your reputation may be strong. It may also need catching up.

Last breakfast in the Dominican Republic before we get picked up at lunchtime. ☀️

Am I ready to go home?

Not entirely. 😂

But I am looking forward to a proper cup of tea, with milk in it, please and I could absolutely murder some Marmite on toast.

The emails are starting to stack up. The diary is filling. There are things I could already be “just quickly” sorting out.

But no.

I’m holding the boundary until I’m home.

Because that was part of this holiday too.

Not just getting a tan, but actually switching off.

And it worked.

We’re tanned, relaxed, refreshed and I’ve had space to think about what I want life and business to look like next.

Back to work on Wednesday.

Big plans. Fresh energy. A few changes.

And then… go, go, go. ❤️

But first: one last breakfast in the sunshine.

We aren’t here for a long time. We’re here for a good time.

And I think this holiday has reminded me of something I’m very good at forgetting when I’m at home and running at 100 miles an hour.

Life is not supposed to be one long list of things to get through before we’re finally allowed to enjoy it.

I’ve eaten three meals a day. I’ve sat still. I’ve read books. I’ve laughed. I’ve had wine because I fancied one, not because I needed to take the edge off the day. I’ve spent less time online, less time comparing myself to everyone else and a lot less time worrying about what I should be doing next.

And do you know what? I feel better. Lighter. Calmer. Even my clothes fit better, which makes absolutely no sense after an all-inclusive holiday 😂

I can’t live on a Caribbean beach forever, much as I’d happily give it a go, but I can take some of this version of life home with me.

More swimming. More people. More proper breaks. More travel. Less unnecessary stress. Less sitting in my own head. And a business that gives me a life rather than becoming my whole life.

At 59, I think I’m finally getting the message.

We aren’t here for a long time.

So I’m going to make damn sure we’re here for a good time.
