The club has a long and proud history. We are one of only a handful of clubs from the Neath League to win the West Wales Cup. We are a friendly group of soccer enthusiasts that play at Ynysmeudwy Athletic. We have a full calendar throughout the season. Contact our club secretary for a list of dates and venues. Longford FC Thirds 5–7 Ynysmeudwy AFC Reserves

After a hard-fought win last time out, we expected another tough game against Longford. The message before kick-off was to bring the same work rate, and the lads certainly delivered.

We made the perfect start when Jaden Morgan opened the scoring after just six minutes, assisted by Scott Morris. Longford equalised against the run of play, but the lads responded brilliantly and continued to play some excellent passing football.

Scott Morris restored the lead on 22 minutes before Callum Richards made it 3–1 shortly after. Jaden then grabbed his second, reacting quickest after seeing his penalty saved, before Jordan Davies added a fifth.

Just before the break, another brilliant team move involving Jordan, Ashton Rees and Lewis Reddy ended with Callum Richards finishing superbly for his second, sending us into half-time 6–1 ahead.

Longford pulled one back after the break, but Ashton Rees got the goal his performance deserved on 63 minutes to make it 7–2.

The final stages became scrappy and Longford refused to give up, scoring three more to make it 7–5. The lads held firm to see the game out and secure another massive three points.

Overall, some brilliant football played for large parts of the game and plenty more confidence to take into the next one.

Man of the Match: Ashton Rees

Excellent performances across the midfield, with Scott Morris and Callum Richards both close contenders, but Ashton just edged it.

He was instrumental in linking the defence and holding midfield with the attack, always calm on the ball and looking to play sharp, positive football. Off the ball, he worked tirelessly to win possession back, helping the defence when needed while also winning the ball high up the pitch to keep us on the front foot.

A brilliant all-round midfield performance, capped off with a well-deserved goal.

Ynysmeudwy AFC 2–1 Glynneath Town

We knew going into the game that it was going to be a tough test, with Glynneath coming to the Corbwll as last season’s Premier Division champions.

The lads started with incredible intensity and, from the first whistle, controlled the game comfortably. We were a constant threat going forward, with their goalkeeper pulling off some very good saves in the opening 20 minutes to keep the scores level.

We eventually broke the deadlock through Ryan Rouse, who produced a lovely finish after a brilliant delivery from a free-kick by James West.

Just a few minutes later, we doubled our lead with an early team goal of the season contender! 😮‍💨🔥
Some brilliant short, sharp passing had the visitors in knots before Rouse drilled a lovely ball across for captain Anthony Morgan to finish it off and make it 2–0. We can’t wait to see that one back on the VEO! 👀

The only real disappointing moment from us came when we conceded a sloppy goal on the counter attack, allowing Glynneath back into the game.

From that point, though, we settled straight back down and continued to dominate the ball and play our football. We created chances throughout the game and, credit where it’s due, their goalkeeper was outstanding. He kept them in the contest and was comfortably their Man of the Match, because on another day we could easily have scored plenty more.

Overall, another brilliant performance from the lads against the reigning champions and a fully deserved BIG 3 POINTS!

Paul was absolutely brilliant from start to finish and put in a massive shift for the team. His attacking play was excellent and he could easily have grabbed himself a couple of goals, but it was his defensive work that really stood out. Paul showed all of his experience, was everywhere on the pitch and contributed massively at both ends.

A top all-round performance and a fully deserved Man of the Match!

Both teams are in action today!

Our First Team welcome last season’s Premier Division winners Glynneath Town to the Corbwll. It’s set to be a great test for the lads and should be a good watch for the neutral!

Our Reserves make the short trip to Parc Ynysderw to face Longford FC Thirds.

It’s been a tough start to the season for the Reserves with plenty of midweek games, but the boys have dealt with it brilliantly, winning all four of their opening games.

They head into today full of confidence and will be looking to make it five from five and bring all three points back home!

Skewen FC 1–2 Ynysmeudwy AFC

A massive three points on the road! 💪🏻⚫️⚪️

We started the game really well, controlling possession and constantly threatening the Skewen goal. We created numerous chances, with their keeper pulling off some big saves to keep them in the game.

The breakthrough eventually came through Ryan Rouse, who met a brilliant delivery from Cai Bowden with a lovely headed finish into the corner.

We continued to push and could easily have gone into the break more than one goal ahead.

The second half started in similar fashion and we doubled our lead through captain Anthony Morgan, who headed home from a Tom Lewis assist to make it 2–0.

That second goal seemed to wake Skewen up, and they pulled one back five minutes later. From there, we had to dig deep and defend for large periods, while still creating plenty of opportunities ourselves at the other end.

The final 20 minutes turned into a cracking game for the neutral, but the boys worked tirelessly to see it out and secure a thoroughly deserved 2–1 victory!

A huge shift from every single player and a massive result to get us back to winning ways! 🖤🤍

It’s a massive game for the boys as we look to put our last three results behind us, get back to winning ways and start pushing ourselves back amongst the teams at the top of the table.

Giants Grave 3rds 2-3 Ynysmeudwy AFC Reserves

Massive 3 points on the road! 💪

A brilliant first-half performance from our reserves saw us race into a 3-0 lead against a strong Giants Grave Reserves side… with a few 3rds thrown in for good measure 👀

Grave made a few changes and started to put us under pressure, pulling one back just before the break to make it 3-1.

The second half was a completely different battle. Grave dominated a lot of the ball, but the boys dug in, defended superbly and worked tirelessly for each other. We still created chances on the break, but it was Grave who struck again in the 72nd minute to make it 3-2.

From there, it was all about character. The boys put their bodies on the line, defended brilliantly and saw the game out to take all 3 points away from Grave! A massive result for the reserves! 🔥

Man of the Match: Mitchell Butler

An absolute dog of a performance at the back from Mitch. Defended superbly, got stuck into everything and battled from the first whistle to the last. One of the biggest reasons we came away with the result we did.

Last week was supposed to be our final midweek fixture… but with the introduction of Giants Grave FC 3rds into Division 4, we’ve got one more under the lights!

The boys travel to Parc Newydd this evening, and we know it’s always a tough place to go.

We’ve started the season strongly though, and the lads will head there full of confidence, looking to put in another good performance and hopefully come away with all 3 points!

Cwm Wanderers AFC 5-3 Ynysmeudwy AFC

A tough day at the office for the lads as we fell to a 5-3 defeat away to Cwm Wanderers AFC.

We created plenty of chances and had opportunities to win the game ourselves, but unfortunately failed to convert when it mattered. At the other end, some sloppy goals proved costly and ultimately gave us too much to do.

A brilliant performance from Tom, who worked tirelessly in the middle of the park from the first whistle. He was then pushed further forward into the number 10 role and made a real impact, getting himself two cracking goals.

A tough one to take, but we put it behind us and move on. Plenty to learn from as we look to bounce back next week with another away trip, this time to Skewen FC.
