Situated in the upper Swansea Valley overlooking Pontardawe, Pontardawe Golf Club offers a unique location for playing golf. At just over 6101 yards and par 70, the course provides a good challenge for all standards of golfers. The course is situated on a mountain and is semi-parkland. The course has a few gentle inclines, but these are worthwhile as the golfer is treated to panoramic views. To th

e North, are the beautiful Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountain, to the South, the Swansea Valley, Mumbles Head and Swansea Bay. From the tee of the 16th, known locally as the pulpit, these magnificent views are captured. Pontardawe Golf Club prides itself as being a very friendly and sociable club to the visitor.

MEN’S & WOMEN’S SENIORS HOME INTERNATIONALS 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

What a fantastic achievement for our very own Centenary Club Captain, Julie Thomas, who this week will once again pull on her Wales shirt and represent her country in the Seniors Home Internationals.👏

Julie has the rather unique honour of being both our Centenary Club Captain AND President of Wales Golf (have we mentioned that before 😜) but despite all those responsibilities, she’s still very much a playing member of Team Wales and continues to compete at the highest level. Now that’s leading from the front.

The Home Internationals get underway tomorrow at the fantastic Royal St David’s Golf Club in Harlech, where Wales will take on the other home nations in what promises to be a brilliant week of golf.

From everyone at Pontardawe Golf Club, we couldn’t be prouder of you, Julie. You are a bloody legend.
Go out there, enjoy it, play your heart out and show them what you’re made of, just like you’ve done many times before. We’ll have the gin on ice, waiting for you, on your return 🍸

Introducing our very own ‘Greens Machine’ 😂

Our Director, Conrad, is well known for getting stuck in and having a go at pretty much anything and everything.

Whether that’s serving in the shop, getting behind the bar, cleaning the clubhouse, conducting meetings, successfully applying for grants, renewing contracts and leases, arranging charity days and social events, teaching our juniors and underprivileged children, helping members and guests, course marshal, supporting the local community, securing investment and sponsorship, you name it, Conrad does it. Without fail. (He’ll hate us saying all this btw)

He even gets involved in the cooking, although if you ask Ross, portion control isn’t exactly one of his strengths. 🤔

And now, Conrad has decided to broaden his horizons even further and venture into the world of greenkeeping. Under the watchful eye of Jamie, he’s been learning a thing or two about looking after the greens.

Well, we can now officially announce that he has graduated to Certified Greens Machine™.

Here he is in action on the roller, performing his very own interpretation of the Casper Slide, with Jamie keeping a very close eye on proceedings, just in case Conrad decided to take the roller for a scenic tour of the 12th and down his drive.

Apparently, the 12th green is now smoother than it’s ever been. Jamie says that’s partly down to Conrad’s “little extra weight” providing some additional downward pressure. 👀

We haven’t told Conrad that bit yet, and we’d quite like to keep our jobs. He doesn’t have social media, so he won’t see this.

At this rate, there’ll be nothing our Director can’t do.

Next week, we’re expecting him to start repairing the irrigation system, although Jamie and the boys want ‘fewer’ leaks, not more 😆

Happy Greenkeepers Day ⛳️

Today is officially Thank A Greenkeeper Day, but here at Pontardawe, we reckon every day is Greenkeepers Day 🙌

A huge thank you to Jamie, Iwan, Joe & Rhodri, the four legends who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our course looking and playing as brilliantly as it does.

Early mornings, late evenings, rain, wind, sunshine, snow, and the odd numpty who throws in the occasional mind boggling question 👀

You put so much hard work, pride, passion and care into our course, and it really shows. We’re incredibly lucky to have you, and as a club we genuinely respect, appreciate and value everything you do. Jamie has created a fantastic team, a unit, it’s a pleasure to see.

Without you, we’d have a golf course, but with you, we’ve got a course we’re all bloody proud to call Pontardawe. 👏

FINALLY, SOME RAIN🌧️

After what feels like an eternity of dry weather, we’ve finally had some decent rain, and the course is slowly but surely starting to fight its way back. ⛳️

The greens and fairways are recovering, and we’re now seeing little pockets of new growth across the course. Some areas will take a little longer, but the important thing is,

WE HAVE GROWTH 😜

It may be a little sporadic at the moment, rather like Jamie’s hairline. But just like Jamie, we’re not giving up hope yet.🤣

With a bit more rain, some warmth and plenty of TLC, we’re hoping to see the course continue to improve over the coming weeks. It won’t happen overnight, unfortunately grass doesn’t come with Amazon Prime delivery, nor does it come with guaranteed delivery, just like most of your golf swings, hardly deliver…. Mic drop 🎤

But we’re definitely heading in the right direction. Not long now. It’ll be winter league before you know it …………… 👀

💚 CAPTAIN’S CHARITY DAY – GRAND TOTAL 💚

I’m delighted to announce that our Captain’s Charity Day raised a fantastic £4,355 for Morgan’s Army. ⛳️

The total was made up of:

🏌️ Competition entries – £1,700
🤝 Tee sponsors – £900
🎟️ Evening raffle, Name the Octopus & collection tin – £725
🔨 Charity auction – £1,030

GRAND TOTAL – £4,355 🎉

A huge thank you to everyone who played, sponsored a tee, donated prizes, bought raffle tickets, bid in the auction, dropped money into the collection tin or simply came along and supported the day.

The generosity from our members, guests, sponsors, friends and families was quite remarkable, and every penny raised will be supporting Morgan’s Army and the wonderful work they do. 💚

Fancy a round of golf without having to sell a kidney to pay for it? 😂

Well, Sunday 13th September is your chance. We at Pontardawe Golf Club are hosting a Mixed Open Day with FREE ENTRY, yes, you read that correctly, IT’s FREE. No, we haven’t had a pint….. yet 👀 but, we do ask if you would kindly participate in the raffle. You never know, you could win some out of date chocolates, or a fabulous painting. 🖼️

Grab your partner, your golf buddies, your better half (or someone you can blame when the ball disappears into the bushes or shanks into the carpark) and come along for a fun day on and off course!!!!!!!! What is life without a bit of laughter?!!!

Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or someone who spends more time looking for their ball than actually hitting it, everyone’s welcome, we don’t judge, we simply laugh 🤭
