Beautiful day out at sea Tuesday on The Quest.

Headed down Lundy for some pollack / wrasse bashing. Took a little while to find them but once we did it was non stop pretty much all day. Fishing the shallower water meant the fish returned well. Terry Bourge managed to catch a bonus unicorn and Chay Thomas managed a stray Coalie to our surprise. Pollack weren’t huge but a good few around the 5-6lb mark, good fun on light gear.

We once we were all fished out we gave Langland a go on the way back in which produced some bonus Bream showing of their beautiful colours. All Bream were returned.

Quest trip 24th
What a glamour day today ... well after the thick fog burnt away , I had 3 spiecies in mind today and we succeeded with a extra bonus .
Headed to Oxwich where the plan was bass 1st then tope and then bream but with the fog and waiting for the tide to pick up we thought we would try for some macky ..... and there they were BONUS species and great for the Tope later , we then found a few Bass but only 2 keepers .
Off to the Tope but struggled for a while and decided to move back towards home and try there and there they were in big numbers , after a battering from the Tope we went on the bream but only found one , but all species achieved and not forgetting the sun burn !
Cheers mark

Mumbles Quest
16th May
Weather fair but due to worsened as day proceeds.
Headed west first stop only doggies so continued west.
We did some inshore drifting and picked up 3 pollack 1 a keeper and a bass inside but returned in the hope of catching larger.
Reached the worm about 90 min before low water.
Here we found a large shoal of bass right in the turbulence off the point of the worm.
Great fun with 80 plus fish but not 1 insize mostly just under.
Headed back east for a cuppa ,food and a little less swell.
Looked for mackerel, none.
Could not hold anchor in langland as the weather had turned so finished the day in the mumbles with a few smoothounds and doggies.
Very enjoyable day even if a little rough at times, thanks to all onboard see you soon.

Good days fishing but an average days catching on the Oystercat today. We looked around for mackerel in half a dozen different areas but only one which was foul hooked and a few pollack were found, luckily we had plenty of frozen bait so headed offshore to look for some tope.

Runs came pretty quickly but it took a hour or so to get the first tope into the boat. In between tope runs the bull huss provide great sport.

Late morning we ran further offshore in search of bass, but this was fruitless. So we headed back inshore for a sausage sandwich and a cup of tea before heading back offshore for more pollack, tope and huss.

We finished the day looking for hounds but more pollack, a few bream and dogs were to show for 2 hrs fishing so we called it a day around 6pm.

Great day on the water but the fishing was just ok.

Later start then normal today on the Oystercat. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery; hopefully Kristian Provis agrees as we followed the the same structure as his trip yesterday with similar results. Rays, huss, hounds, congers and dogs.

Mark Lewis got attacked twice, once by a conger that latched on to his top, then a huss did the same to his tea shirt!

Weather was cracking most of the day, catering by John Elvins was awesome too.

Quest trip 26/4/26

Headed down Lundy due to the nice break in weather. Got there for slack water so wasn’t expecting much early on but we hit fish immediately. Plenty of pollack for all but the wrasse were a no show unfortunately.

Did try drifting for some turbot on the banks as we didn’t want to risk damaging any more pollack than we wanted but that unsuccessful.

Ended up with pollack, poor cod, whiting, pouting, dogs, Huss and launce.

Lovely day doing what we enjoy most 🎣

Oystercat 25/4/26

Today we headed out to mid chanel is search for some of the bigger fish. With the wind against tide chopping us up abit and holding us off the mark we did manage to entice about a dozen congers and a bullhuss out. As the tide picked up we decided to head in shore to shelter from the wind where we saw a few smooth hound, more congers eels, rays and of course dogfish with chay landing 3 at a time. The day ended very pleasant with the tide with running the wind but the fishing was slow with just dog fish being caught so we called it a day.

Oystercat trip 23rd April. With the forecast almost dictating a cancel, but a good crew available I decided that a trip could be attempted. First mark was too rough to fish so headed inshore a bit to try to get some shelter. Once again! the weather was not as should be with instead of easterly a strong southerly was now blowing. We had not had a cuppa yet so decided to give it a try, and have tea and sausage roll while at anchor. Plenty of dogfish two blond Ray at the same time to “2 rods Thomas” and two thornbacks and yes that’s Keith under all that clobber. Wind picked up a bit and I decided to go to original mark as nose was into the swell by then. About 9 nice huss three at least double figure and yet another PB for Steve which tried hard to bite him. New catering tried out Burgers with no Bun, some idiot left the rolls in the kitchen. Great to be out plenty of fresh air and banter, big thanks to crew Wayne and Chay, and the boys who washed up. With the wind increasing we called it a day at 14.00 and headed back for early bath. Fresh air a plenty. John E
