An incredible day for Team Wales! has secured his second world champion title and has come in fourth in an amazing surfing debut.

Overall Wales came 15th in World! Llongyfarchiadau Cymru ❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Team Wales absolutely smashed it today! Both and claimed first place in their heats and overall in their categories, and finished in close second to Sponge.

We couldn’t be prouder, especially of Kirsty as this is her first ever surf competition!

An amazing start to the 2023 ISA World Para Surfing Championships!

With a remarkable 184 athletes from 27 countries, the energy is incredible. Team Wales is gearing up for tomorrow’s early morning action. The Men’s Kneel division kicks off at 7:30am PST (3:30pm GMT), with and competing in Heat #5.

Meet our athletes: Matthew Thorne

Matt caught his very first wave at Coney Beach in the summer of 2021 and has been surfing with us at Surfability for just over a year. His favourite surfspot is Llangennith and this will be his first World Championships.

He says: ‘My favourite thing about surfing is either the great surf community or the feeling of riding a wave.’

Kirsty has been surfing for 3 years and she’s gearing up for her very first surfing competition at the upcoming World Championships!

Isaac has been riding waves with us since April 2019, and this year marks his third journey to the world championships!

His favourite surf spot is Llangennith, and he shares: ‘My favourite thing about surfing is that it’s a sport I can enjoy with my friends and peers. Once I'm in the water, there are no barriers or taking it easy on me.’

Countdown to the 2023 Welsh Para Surfing Championships!

In just one week, the adrenaline will be pumping and the waves will be roaring as we gear up for our favourite competition of the year!
