🏆 WOMEN BATTLE INTO THE SUPER 8 FINAL!

The Swanage Women take the headlines this weekend after a fantastic, hard-fought victory over Cerne Ladies secured their place in the Super 8 Final at Swanage on 6th September!

It was a real team performance from Eden, Faye, Jemma, Nala, Jo, Angie, Suku, Sophie C and Hannah, with everyone contributing across the game.

With the bat, Swanage worked hard to build a competitive total, with valuable contributions and partnerships throughout the order keeping the scoreboard moving and giving the team something to defend.

With the ball, Nala, Sophie C, Faye, Suku and Eden shared the duties and kept the pressure on, picking up crucial wickets at important moments.

It certainly wasn’t an easy afternoon. A couple of nasty injuries tested the team along the way, but the players showed tremendous character and togetherness to battle through, support each other and keep competing right to the very end.

That determination ultimately made the difference and secured a brilliant victory.

🏏 MEN’S WEEKEND ROUND-UP

It proved to be a much tougher weekend for our three Adult Men’s teams, with all three suffering defeats.

1️⃣ 1st XI – Battling defeat at league leaders

The 1st XI travelled to Premier 2 leaders Wimborne 2nd XI and, after winning an important toss, elected to bat on one of the best batting tracks in the county.

A difficult start saw Swanage reduced to 15-3, before the in-form Ben Allatt and Tom Wells began the recovery. When both departed in quick succession, the visitors were again under pressure at 80-5.

The fightback continued through a valuable half-century partnership between Coby Perry and Ethan Stacey. Perry struck an excellent 46 before being spectacularly caught and bowled, while Stacey added an important 37.

Useful lower-order contributions from Nick Pestana and Steve Ramsay helped Swanage reach 197 all out in the final over, giving the bowlers something to defend.

The response started perfectly, with Perry striking in the opening over. Despite the efforts of Harry Long, Perry and Ramsay, Wimborne appeared to be cruising at 160-3.

Swanage refused to give in. The dismissal of Wimborne 1st XI captain Ben Bridgen for 94 opened the door, and a superb spell of off-spin from Pete Richards, who claimed three wickets, suddenly had the hosts wobbling at 183-7.

Unfortunately, Wimborne held their nerve to complete the chase and take another important victory in their push for the Premier 2 title.

Plenty of fight shown by Swanage, particularly after being 15-3 with the bat and then continuing to battle when the hosts looked to be cruising.

2️⃣ 2nd XI – Leaders prove too strong

The 2nd XI faced the runaway leaders in Division 3 and found themselves up against a strong side.

Chris Wood battled hard for 25, while Jernimain B and Sid Nash each picked up a wicket, but ultimately the league leaders proved too strong and completed a comprehensive victory.

3️⃣ 3rd XI – Marsh & Danny lead the resistance

There was plenty to celebrate individually despite defeat for the 3rd XI, particularly a remarkable 140-run partnership between Gary Marsh and Danny N.

Danny continued his excellent form with 75, while Gary produced a superb 66 as the pair provided the backbone of the Swanage innings.

In reply, a vastly more experienced opposition eventually reached their target, but not before Liam B, Nala L and Alfred R each claimed a wicket.

🦢 Swanage CC Weekly Round-Up

Another busy weekend of cricket saw Swanage’s sides continue to show plenty of fight, with the 2nd XI producing a superb away victory, while the 1st XI were left frustrated after another narrow defeat.

1st XI | Poole Town CC

It was another game that ultimately got away from the 1st XI, who fell to a 19-run defeat despite showing much-improved energy and commitment from the previous week.

After losing the toss and being asked to field, Swanage made an excellent start with the ball. Coby Perry and Freddie Long applied early pressure before Harry Long produced an outstanding spell to finish with 4-43, while Freddie Long (2-20) and Steve Ramsay (2-55) kept the hosts under pressure.

The difference came in the closing stages. Having reduced Poole to 177-7, Swanage were unable to finish the innings strongly as the visitors added valuable late runs to post 253 all out. Those final 10 overs ultimately proved decisive.

The chase began with real intent. Dan Salmon blasted 37 from 25 balls, Mike Salmon continued his excellent form with a rapid 52, while Mark Stacey added a composed 46 to keep Swanage firmly in the contest. With three of the top order making significant contributions, the platform was there to chase down the target.

However, the familiar pattern returned. Too many soft dismissals and a lack of patience meant momentum swung back to Poole at crucial moments. Rather than making the opposition earn wickets, Swanage gifted them opportunities, eventually being bowled out for 234.

Despite the result, there were clear improvements in attitude, intensity and commitment. The challenge now is converting good positions into victories by showing greater resilience with the bat and ruthlessness in key moments.

2nd XI | Winton CC

The 2nd XI produced one of the performances of the season, overcoming an inexperienced side and a number of unavailable regulars to secure a fantastic two-wicket victory away at Winton.

Captain BJ Allatt once again lost the toss and Swanage were asked to field. The young side responded brilliantly, with Max Nicholson (3-16) and Sam Marks (2-22) reducing Winton to 27-3 through disciplined opening spells. Second XI debutants Danny Nicholson and Josh Van Staden also impressed before Winton rebuilt with a substantial middle-order partnership.

Excellent catching, led by Don Van Staden’s three superb catches, helped keep Swanage in the contest as wickets continued to fall. Bradley Bullpit claimed two wickets, while Josh Gould finished the innings in style by taking a wicket with his very first delivery as Winton were dismissed for 229.

The reply was equally impressive. After a steady start, BJ Allatt produced a captain’s innings of 74, sharing a match-defining 100-run partnership with Sam Marks (26) to put Swanage firmly in control.

When Winton fought back through a devastating spell from opener S Kahn, who claimed five wickets, the game swung once more. But Chris Wood (29), showing tremendous composure, guided the chase superbly*, first alongside Don Van Staden (21) before 13-year-old Josh Van Staden (6)* showed maturity beyond his years to help see Swanage home with two wickets in hand.

It was a dramatic finish and an outstanding team performance. With so many young players stepping up, the club’s strength in depth continues to grow, and several players have undoubtedly given the selectors plenty to think about ahead of the final weeks of the season.

🦢 Swanage CC Weekly Round-Up

It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for the Swans, with a tough lesson for the 1st XI but outstanding victories for both the 2nd and 3rd XI showcasing the strength and character throughout the club.

😵‍💫1st XI

Last Saturday against Blandford simply wasn’t our day, and one we’ll need to learn from quickly.

Winning the toss and choosing to bat on an excellent cricket wicket, we failed to show the application and resilience required. Too many soft dismissals and a lack of meaningful partnerships saw us dismissed for just 142 in 28.1 overs—well below par on a surface that offered plenty to the batters. Ben Hodder led the resistance with a composed 41, while Charlie D**e provided some late momentum with a quickfire 31, but we never built the innings needed.

Unfortunately, the bowling performance reflected the batting. Blandford chased the target in under 20 overs for the loss of only two wickets as we lacked the consistency, discipline and intensity needed to build pressure. Coby Perry and Steve Ramsay claimed the wickets, but we were unable to wrestle back any momentum.

The biggest disappointment wasn’t the result—it was our mindset. At times it felt like we were in carnival mode rather than cricket mode. The standards, focus and professionalism we’ve shown over the previous three weeks simply weren’t there, and Premier Two cricket quickly exposes any drop in standards.

The response now is simple: learn, regroup and get back to playing the brand of cricket we know we’re capable of.

💪2nd XI

The performance of the weekend came from the 2nd XI, who produced an incredible one-wicket victory over fellow promotion challengers Blandford.

Harry Long delivered one of the all-round displays of the season. After striking twice with the new ball to reduce Blandford to 40-3, he was well supported by spinners Andrew Hancock and Sid Nash, who combined brilliantly to claim 4-45 and keep the hosts under pressure. Despite a late recovery, Blandford were eventually dismissed for 187.

The chase looked all but over at 30-5, and even after Mike Nash (35) and Ben Allatt (20) rebuilt the innings, Swanage slipped to 90-7.

What followed was a remarkable display of composure and determination. Harry Long guided the lower order through crucial partnerships before calmly farming the strike with last man Andrew Hancock. Fittingly, he sealed victory in spectacular style by launching his 10th boundary over the ropes to finish an outstanding 77 not out.

A superb all-round performance and a huge win that keeps the promotion dream firmly alive, with Swanage now just 15 points off second place with five games remaining.

💙 3rd XI

The 3rd XI travelled to high-flying Buckhorn Weston and faced one of the toughest challenges of the season.

After winning the toss and electing to field, Swanage made two early breakthroughs, but the hosts continued to attack and eventually posted 296-8 from their 40 overs. Although the young bowling attack came under pressure, they showed tremendous resilience, continuing to battle throughout and regularly taking wickets. A special mention goes to Don Van Staden for a superb direct-hit run out from mid-wicket, while Tim Ives provided the day’s entertainment with an unforgettable slow-motion tumble while attempting to retrieve a ball from the neighbouring field!

In reply, Swanage also lost early wickets, but the game became an excellent opportunity for the club’s younger players to spend valuable time at the crease. Bradley, Danny, Alfred and Josh all showed excellent character and composure, gaining invaluable experience against one of the league’s strongest sides.

While the result didn’t go our way, the continued development and growing confidence of our young players remains a huge positive and an important investment in the future of the club.

🦢 One difficult day won’t define our season. There were lessons for the 1st XI, heroics from the 2nd XI and continued development across the 3rd XI 💙

On Sunday Swanage entertained Verwood in a Div 2 Softball match. Verwood batted first and scored 322 with wickets for Suku & Daisy and good bowling from Nala & Sophie. When Swanage batted sisters Nala (29) & Daisy (15) made a terrific start, Jemma & Pam kept the momentum going before Jo (29) & Sophie (12) set up the win - Sophie hitting a massive six off her first ball. Suku & Angie finished the innings to secure the win for the Swans. Well done to the whole team

🏏 Swans - Weekly Round-Up 🦢💙

Another brilliant weekend for the Swans, with two outstanding victories for the 1st and 2nd XIs, while the 3rd XI continued to showcase the exciting development of our young players with a memorable individual milestone.

🦢 1st XI – Back-to-Back Wins!

The 1st XI continued their impressive form with a convincing 7-wicket victory away at Marnhull, moving up to 4th place in Premier Two.

From the very first ball, Swanage set the tone with outstanding energy and intensity. The opening attack took control immediately, with overseas quick Coby Perry claiming two wickets in his opening over to reduce Marnhull to 24-4. He then produced one of the moments of the season, instinctively deflecting a fierce drive onto the stumps at the bowler’s end to run out the backing-up batter—a piece of fielding brilliance that swung the game even further in Swanage’s favour.

Coby was simply sensational, finishing with remarkable figures of 5-8 from 8.1 overs, including two maidens, to claim his second five-wicket haul of the season. Freddie Long built relentless pressure from the opposite end, while Steve Ramsey finished with 3 wickets as Marnhull were dismissed for 123 inside 29 overs.

The chase started with a couple of early setbacks, but there was never any panic. Dan Salmon counter-attacked superbly with 46 from just 44 balls, striking nine boundaries, before Tom Wells continued his excellent season with an unbeaten 54*—his third half-century of the campaign. Alongside him, Ethan Stacey fittingly wrapped up the win in spectacular fashion, launching the winning runs for a huge six to complete a dominant 7-wickets.

💪 2nd XI – Another Important Win

The 2nd XI produced another excellent all-round performance to overcome fellow promotion hopefuls Cattistock.

After the visitors reached 36-0, Swanage fought back brilliantly as Harry Long (3 wickets) and Jernimain (2 wickets) ripped through the top order to leave Cattistock 72-5. Andrew Hancock then produced a superb spell of off-spin to claim 3 wickets, helping bowl the visitors out for 128.

In reply, a crucial 66-run partnership between Chris Backhouse (42) and Max Nicholson (34) laid the perfect platform before Sam Marks calmly guided Swanage home to a comfortable 5-wicket victory.

🌟 3rd XI – A Century to Remember

While the result didn’t quite go Swanage’s way, there was plenty to celebrate.

A huge congratulations to Josh Gould, who produced a magnificent maiden century (104), including 15 boundaries, helping the Swans post an impressive 273-5. Tim Ives continued his fine form with another half-century, while Bradley, Danny and Josh V-S all picked up wickets as Verwood eventually reached the target with 5 wickets in hand.

The result aside, the continued growth, confidence and development within this young side is clear to see, with more players stepping up and producing match-winning performances every week.

🦢 SWANAGE CC – WEEKEND ROUND-UP 🏏

The smiles in this week’s featured photo say it all. Our victorious 1st XI celebrate an excellent 67-run win over Weymouth—a performance built on resilience, discipline and teamwork. It’s a reflection of the confidence and togetherness that’s growing across the club week by week.

Another fantastic weekend of cricket for the Swans, with three senior squads representing the club across Dorset. There were victories, standout individual performances, a superb century, and a last-ball thriller – everything that makes grassroots cricket so special.

💪1st XI – Swanage beat Weymouth by 67 runs

The 1st XI produced another mature, disciplined performance to continue building momentum in the league.

Winning the toss, skipper Mark Stacey elected to bat first on an excellent Day’s Park wicket. While the top order is still searching for its breakthrough performance, the middle order once again demonstrated its resilience. Ethan Stacey anchored the innings superbly with a composed 44, well supported by Mike Salmon (31) and Dan Salmon (26), before valuable contributions from Matt Beard and Freddie Long helped Swanage recover to post 204.

With the ball, opening bowlers Freddie Long and Coby Perry set the tone with relentless line and length, building pressure from the outset. Freddie was rewarded with 3 wickets, while Coby’s disciplined spell created opportunities from the opposite end. Ben Hodder then produced the spell of the day, claiming an outstanding four wickets with clever variations and control to break the heart of the Weymouth batting line-up. Mike Salmon complemented him perfectly with 3 wickets, as Swanage dismissed the visitors for 137.

Perhaps the biggest highlight was the fielding. Despite another scorching afternoon, the energy, intensity and commitment never dipped. Every player contributed, pressure was relentless, and chances were taken brilliantly. Most encouraging of all, this squad is growing in confidence week by week, raising its standards and continuing to build momentum together.

⚡️2nd XI – Plenty of positives despite defeat

The 2nd XI travelled to Weymouth and found themselves chasing 253 after the home side accelerated impressively in the closing overs.

There were encouraging performances with the ball as Sam Marks claimed 3 wickets, Max Nicholson took 2, while Bradley Bulpitt, Harry Long and Sid Nash all chipped in.

In reply, Ben Allatt stole the headlines with a superb unbeaten 66, striking 12 boundaries, while John Lewis (35) and Sam Marks (29) also made valuable contributions as Swanage finished on 215-6.

⚡️3rd XI – A thriller that showcased the future of the club

The 3rd XI were involved in one of the games of the weekend at Day’s Park, serving up a high-quality contest that went right down to the penultimate ball.

Batting first, Paul Norman produced a magnificent unbeaten 103, bringing up his century with the final ball of the innings. Alongside him, Sam Willcocks played with real freedom, smashing an unbeaten 87, as the pair shared a superb 140-run partnership to power Swanage to an imposing 301-3.

Lytchett mounted an equally impressive chase, but Swanage kept themselves in the contest throughout with regular breakthroughs. Andy Hancock led the attack superbly with 4-43, well supported by Alan Marks (2-44), while Sam Willcocks and Alfred Ramsay each claimed a wicket. Despite the relentless effort in the field, Lytchett edged home with just one ball remaining in a remarkable game that swung both ways.

While defeat is always disappointing, the performance was full of positives. The continued development of our younger players is there for all to see, with confidence growing week by week as they take on greater responsibility alongside experienced teammates. Performances like this demonstrate the exciting future being built at Swanage CC, with youth and experience combining to push strong opposition all the way.

🏏 SWANS WEEKLY ROUND-UP 🏏

What a week for Swanage Cricket Club, with big wins, standout individual performances and plenty of positives throughout the club!

🔥 1st XI DOMINATE CHRISTCHURCH
The 1st XI produced one of their most complete performances of the season, securing a superb 9-wicket victory over Christchurch.

After Christchurch looked well set at 113-3, Swanage fought back brilliantly. Mike Salmon stole the show with a sensational spell of 6-27, well supported by Matt Beard (2-24) and a tireless spell from Steve Ramsay. Outstanding fielding, including five catches from Dan Salmon, helped dismiss the visitors for 196.

In reply, Dan Salmon blasted 67, Sam Wells continued his excellent form with an unbeaten 55, before Mike Salmon smashed an incredible 64* from just 30 balls, including seven sixes, to seal victory in style.

A true team performance and a well-deserved 22 points.

💪 2nd XI CRUISE TO BIG WIN AT ABBOTSBURY
The 2nd XI continued their strong campaign with a commanding 121-run victory away at Abbotsbury.

Batting first, contributions came throughout the order. Max Nicholson top-scored with a well-made 53, Chris Backhouse added 42, while James Harding (46) and Harry Long (33) provided late momentum to lift Swanage to 240-9.

The bowlers then took centre stage. James Harding produced a superb spell to claim 4 wickets, while Jernimain struck twice early as Abbotsbury were dismissed for just 119.

A fantastic all-round team effort and an important win on the road.

👏 3rd XI SHOW FIGHT DESPITE DEFEAT
The 3rd XI battled hard away at Wareham after finding themselves in early trouble at 12-3.

David Alcock once again showed his class and determination, carrying his bat for an unbeaten 54 and recording his second successive half-century. Paul Knight provided valuable late hitting to help the side post 133-7.

Defending the total, young Alfred Ramsay impressed with 2-25, while Bradley Bulpitt, Josh Van Staden and Danny Norman all bowled well. Despite their efforts, Wareham reached the target with five wickets remaining.

Great to see our young players continuing to develop and make an impact at senior level.

🏏 WOMEN & JUNIORS
Our Women’s Hardball side came up short this week, but there were excellent contributions from Eden Crook, Jo Roberts-Miller, Suki and Pam Sealey.

Under 15s – WINNERS!
💪 Under 13 Sabres – Nathan impressed with the bat, while Alex, Henry, Luke and Nala starred with the ball.
💪 Under 11s – Strong performances from Alex, Henry, Nicholas and Ruby with the bat, while Charlie, Frankie, Henry and Ruby led the bowling efforts.

Congratulations to all players who represented the club this week. From juniors to seniors, the effort, commitment and club spirit continue to make everyone proud.
