Client whose work involves sustained specific positioning came in with stiffness and limited ROM.

Manipulation to restore mobility plus exercises for neglected ranges.

Came back saying the difference was noticeable, easier movement and better control at work.

Your body adapts specifically to what you demand, through the SAID principle.

And responds fast when you give it what it needs.

A PT client told me yesterday that she helped her daughter move house this weekend.

Boxes, furniture, the lot.

And at no point did she think ā€œI probably can’t or shouldn’t lift thatā€, she just did it.

That’s what strength training gives you, not just the ability to pick heavy stuff up and put it down, but the confidence to do it without worrying about the risk.

To live life without calculating what you can and can’t do.

That in my opinion is healthspan.

You ARE your nervous system.

It’s not a separate thing happening to you. It IS you.

When people say ā€œOh my nervous system is stuck in fight/flightā€, what they actually mean is: I am bloody stressed.

And there are things you can do to regulate it:

- Exercise.
- Breathing.
- Sleep.
- Movement.
- Understanding what’s happening.

You’re not helpless and you’re not controlled by some external force.

You ARE that external force, and luckily that means you have power to influence it.

Something I’ve really noticed since finishing treatment is how difficult it is to get back into training routinely.

When you’re fit, workouts are tough but they feel great because you do.

When you’re not, every workout feels like a slog, they’re painful, difficult and make you feel like giving up.

In truth it makes me feel like a bit of a fraud.

But I also know if I keep putting one foot in front of the other, consistently enough, I’ll slowly get back to where I want to be.

It’s not pretty, and isn’t easy, but it is that simple!

This is the view from my studio into my treatment room, which was the biggest reason for moving.

You see treatment alone might fix the symptoms in the moment, but they’re nothing without the movement needed to fix the underlying cause.

Without exercise prescription we’re only doing half the job, and as we know corrective exercise is correct exercise.

So having the ability to go from treatment to exercise demonstration, and the ability to load a movement adds another level to what we can deliver.

Been a pretty hectic week with clients this week, and sometimes the best training decision is knowing when to rest up.

You see rest is, in my opinion, one of the best tools in training, it’s pretty much where you see the most amount of your gains…

Without it you’ll always be trying to create adaptations that just can’t take place.

Have you ever wondered why your shoulder hurts when pressing overhead?

Often it’s not your shoulder (gh joint) that’s the issue, it’s how well your shoulder blade (scapula) moves and how stable your shoulder is through its range of movement.

Exercises like the Turkish get up force your shoulder to move through a range of movement that not many other exercises do.

You’re building control, stability, and strength through multiple planes of movement.

There’s absolutely a time and place to isolate the shoulder and get strong through specific ranges, but it’s about knowing why and when to apply those principles.

If shoulder pain is limiting your training, it’s time to rethink which exercises and positions you’re using to train it…
