For the second week in succession Veseyans took a trip to this time to take on@silhilliansrufc, a side established in the league above in what proved to be a highly competitive and a stern test for Veseyans.

From the off it was a physical encounter with Veseyans having the early chances but unable to find the final pass to get over the line. Silhillians came into it and showed their quality in the final minutes of the first 20 scoring two quick tries to make the score 14-0 to the ‘visitors.’ The second quarter started in a similar vein with Veseyans on the ascendency and after some concerted pressure .amrik was able to cut a line which took him under the posts for Veseyans first score of the day. Silhillians much like the first 20 came back into it and after some pressure on the V’s line a loose ball was pounced on by the Silhillians 8 and he crashed over to take the score out 21-7. Undeterred V’s continued to show a much improved performance from last week and just before the half a well worked lineout allowed man of the match to step inside a would be tackler and crash over from 20 yards to make the score at half time 21-14 to Sils.

The 3rd quarter was a much cagier affair with neither side able to put any real concerted pressure on the other. With the clock in the red Veseyans managed to enter the 22 and force a 5m lineout but after some good defence Sils were able to force an error which allowed their winger to go the length to take the score out 28-14 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The final quarter saw V’s make a plethora of changes and this appeared to disrupt the ‘hosts’ and Sils were able to show their quality with 3 quick tries to give the Reg 2 side a comfortable victory.

V’s will take plenty of positives from the game which for large parts they are a match for their reg 2 opponents. V’s now have a 3 week block before their next pre season game with a 2nd XV squad taking on 2nd XV on the 5th of September at home.

The V's continue to build the squad for the new season with our next pre-season match against Silhillians tomorrow.

The match will also take place at Warwick School, Myton Road CV34 6PP - with kick off at 1pm.
