⚫️⚪️ A hard fought win for Newcastle down at Millwall - Joe Willock with the winner - and a cracking little cameo from Matias Fernandez-Pardo too.

🎂 Birthday boy Lewis Hall was superb - grabbed the assist - and said this post match to Sky:

🗣️ “Yeah we knew it was going to be really tough. When you come away in the Cup, anything can happen so pleased we got through it. It was about patience. Keep chipping away and the goal will come.”

🗣️ “I think there was a lot of negativity before everything happened. As soon as the gaffer came in, he’s been top. The way he has us playing is amazing. We’re really enjoying playing under him.”

✅ Chemsdine Talbi with the game’s real moment of quality - super finish showing what he can do.
✅ Promising signs from Fofana, Ahoka and Methalie on their first starts for the club.
✅ Plenty of first teamers rested ahead of Arsenal.
✅ Into Round 4 with the minimum of fuss.

🏟️ Not many sides will enjoy coming to the Stadium of Light in the Carabao Cup…

I’ve just moved a mile for the - and now it’s your turn too!

The great man’s unbelievable Foundation is encouraging 52,719 people - roughly the capacity of St James’ Park - to get out there and in any way, move a mile, donate and nominate three others to do it. That could be running like I’ve just done, swimming, cycling, walking - however you want to get the mile done!

The aim? To raise £1 million for the Foundation so a second hydrotherapy pool can be built - and considering the incredible work the Foundation continues to do for its 10,000 members, the very least we can do is get a mile done!

I’ve moved, I’ve donated - so time to nominate… My three are:

🔴⚪️ I said before the Brentford v Sunderland game that a point for SAFC today would be a really good one - and so it proved.

✅ A draw at one of the toughest places to go in the Premier League
✅ Serious mental fortitude for Enzo Le Fee to net a penalty after the panenka last season
✅ Proper impact off the bench again by Wilson Isidor
✅ Kevin Danso with a really solid debut from the start
✅ Really promising cameo from Malick Fofana - so much to come from him

🏟️ 4 points from opening 3 games isn’t a bad return for Sunderland who played really well in patches today. Signs they’re getting there ahead of a big week back at the SoL.

✅ Tremendous character shown to recover from a horror first half hour
✅ A point from a fixture that hasn’t been kind to Newcastle over the years
✅ Harvey Barnes producing a proper Harvey Barnes finish
✅ Tantalising cameo from Matias Fernandez-Pardo - plenty to come from him.
✅ Matthias Jaissle’s game-changing substitutes

👏 5 points from Newcastle’s first 3 games - really solid start to the Mathias Jaissle era for a young side in transition. Onto Millwall.

Matchweek 3 is here... and a week that’s brought a big win and a big signing for Newcastle United.

That’s right - fresh from a 2-0 win on the road at Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle completed the £51 million signing of Matias Fernandez-Pardo on Deadline Day.

Elsewhere, Nick Woltemade signed on a season-long loan at Juventus - I deliver a love letter to the German striker (metaphorically speaking)

⚫️⚪️ Matthias Jaissle press conference headlines ahead of Newcastle v Bournemouth.

✍️ Says Deadline Day was ‘interesting’ and although he wouldn’t rate the transfer window, was happy with it, praising the work Ross Wilson and his team have done.

🇧🇪 On MFP: “Pleased to have him on board. He’s already showing a lot of strength for a young age. He’s fit and training with us.”

🇩🇪 On Nick Woltemade: “Really appreciate him as a player and a person. Hopefully he shines at Juventus.”
